Cthonian
After returning from a long break of not writing fanfics, here is the start of my new one: Zodiac Guardians. Hope you like it.
Name-Age-Favorite CardBrian-15-Emes, the InfinityKevin-16-Lava GolemDylan-10- Dark PaladinLevi-9- Elemental Hero Flame WingmanJanet-40- Cyber Harpie LadyFrank-50- Cyber End Dragon
All will be revealed in good timeDogOxHorseDragonRoosterRatTigerSheepMonkeyRabbitSnakePig
Being a duelist means so much to so many people. To me and my family, it’s a lifestyle. We are the Ryan’s and here’s a little inside into our lives. Brian’s the name. I’m the second oldest sibling. I’m 15 and my older brother Kevin is 16. Together we watch out for our little brothers Dylan, 10, and Levi, 9. We think of ourselves as people who are easy to get along with, but touch one of our brothers, and there is no card on the planet that can help you against us. Well, now that you know a little bit about the past, let’s speed up to the present. Duel Academy is celebrating its 10 year anniversary and Kaiba wants to attract more attention then ever. So for the upcoming year, all duelists that attend a school in general [as opposed to just a high school]. Now to get into the school you have to take a written exam and a dueling exam. The four of us are good at taking tests and we were the only four to get every question right. There was this one kid who only missed one and he gave us a dirty look. But that’s a whole other story that I just don’t have time to tell. So now that we have the written part out of the way, the four of us are waiting our turn for the dueling exam. We arrive at the testing building. There were thousands of people there. But the school only permits 2000 students per year. We were looking at slim to non chances. But that has never stopped us before. We signed in and looked at the monitor to see our dueling schedule. Levi was going to be first up, then Dylan, then Kevin, & me going last. We all headed to the duel fields to cheer Levi on. His instructor came up through the floor. “Would Levi Ryan please enter the duel field? Your match begins in 5 minutes,” said the instructor. We all gave Levi last words of encouragement and some new strategies for his deck. After, Kevin walked him down to the duel field and returned to his seat with Dylan and me. There was something about the duelist he was facing. He looked familiar. I couldn’t place it, but I could have sworn I’ve seen the instructor before. Levi entered and turned on his duel disk and put his shuffled his deck in the deck recognizer with such confidence. He was a Ryan and it showed. “Levi I presume?” asked the nameless instructor. Levi nodded and showed his student identification card to the man. He approved of the id and then turned on his duel disk with his deck already in it. “Levi, my name is Bastion Misawa and I’m your testing instructor,” said Bastion. “If you’re ready, then let the duel commence.”
“Duel,” said Levi. “The first move is mine. I draw. I summon Elemental Hero Clayman in defense mode (800/2000). Two cards face down ends my turn. “Not bad for a rookie, but playing with “heroes” is for the little kids,” said Bastion. “After I draw, I summon Hyrdrogeddon in attack mode (1600/1000). Now I play the field spell card Umirika. This card gives all water monsters 500 attack but lowers their defense by 400 (2100/600). Now my Hydrogeddon attacks Hero Clayman.” “Not so fast Bastion, you activated the trap card Hero Barrier,” said Levi. “This card can only be activated when you attack an Elemental Hero. Your attack doesn’t penetrate through.” “Ah, very good. I place a card face down to end my turn,” said Bastion with a smile on his face. “My move. I activate the spell card Mystical Space Typhoon, destroying your facedown card,” announced Levi. “Now I play Fusion Sage, adding one Polymerization card to my hand. Next comes Pot of Greed. This handy spell card allows me to draw two cards from my deck. Now comes the good part. I fuse together Elemental Heroes Avian and Burstinitrix to form Elemental Hero Flame Wingman (2100/1200).” “Too bad your monster doesn’t have enough attack points to take down my beast,” chuckled Bastion. “That’s because I’m not done. I still have one card left in my hand. I activate the spell card Fusion Weapon,” said Levi. “This card gives any fusion monster 1500 attack points. Seeing as how my flame wingman is the only fusion monster on the field I guess I’ll choose him. That gives him a grand total of 3600 with 1200 defense points. Now I think I’m going to switch my Clayman into attack mode (800). Now Flame Wingman, attack Hydrogeddon (4000/2500). And when my beast attacks a monster, after battle damage, you lose life points equal to your destroyed monsters attack points (4000/400). Now, Elemental Hero Clayman, attack Bastion directly with Clay Clobber (4000/0). Levi had won his entrance exam. We were so happy that we could hardly contain it. We met him on the duel field screaming and shouting. Once we all got in our congratulations, we turned to Bastion. He wasn’t finished. “Congrats Levi. You truly are on the way to being a great duelist. Keep that up and you could make pros. But as per the rules of Duel Academy, I have to award you into the Slifer Red dorm,” said Bastion. “Looks like I’ll be seeing you on campus. I hope for the best for both you and your brothers.” With those words he left. When that happened, the crowd calmed down and we all walked back to our seats. Next, it was Dylan’s time to duel. He put his deck into the deck recognizer and took the field with storm. His duel proctor appeared wearing a plain t-shirt and a pair of jeans while wearing a pair of glasses. “I remember this guy from the middle school,” said Kevin. “I can’t believe they hired him to be a dueling proctor. I had no idea he was any good.” After the verifications were made, the duel disks were activated and the beginning hands were drawn. There was no stopping this duel even if we wanted to. The first move belonged to the examiner. He drew his first card and had a smile on his face. Dylan could tell this wouldn’t be easy.
“I’m afraid that this duel is already over,” said the proctor. “I summon Troop Dragon in defense mode (700/800). Then I place this face down and end my turn.” “I’m going to start off by summoning Marauding Captain in attack mode (1200/400),” said Dylan. “Next, I activate his special ability which allows me to summon a second captain from my hand. I place one card face down and now I’m going to move in on your dragon. Destroy Troop Dragon.” “Why thank-you. You have allowed me to activate my monster’s special ability. Now I can summon two more dragons to take the place of the one I lost,” replied the examiner. “There is no way you can beat me, but proceed.” “I destroy yet another dragon. That ends my turn,” said Dylan with a look of frustration on his face. “Very well. I draw and summon Masked Dragon in defense mode (1400/1100),” said the examiner with confidence. “That ends my turn.” My brothers and I could only watch as Dylan was dueling the hardest duel of his life. And there was nothing we could do to help him. “I call a third captain to the field, but this time, the special ability will not be activated. Instead I activate the spell card The Allied Forces,” said Dylan. “This card gives each warrior 200 attack points for each warrior type monster on my field (1800*3). I now activate Polymerization. Now I can combine the Buster Blader in my hand with my Dark Magician to create the Dark Paladin (2900/2400). My Paladin has a special ability also. For each dragon on the field and in the graveyard, he gains 500 attack points (4900/2400). Now Captains, attack the Troop Dragons. Final captain, attack Masked Dragon.” This was it. His field was completely empty and Dylan’s Paladin had more than enough attack points to take his opponent down. And then he said the burning words. “I activate my monster’s special ability. I can summon another dragon monster with 1500 or less attack points, and I choose another Masked Dragon (1400/1100). Proceed with your attack if you wish,” said Dylan’s opponent. “I will, and my warrior gains another 500 attack points (5400/2400). Finish him off with Celestial Sword,” said Dylan. The entire duel arena shook. Lights everywhere flickered on and off from the powerful attack. The mage sliced through that dragon like it was air. The examiner could only watch as his life point meter dropped to 0. He couldn’t believe he was stupid enough to power up the Dark Paladin with another dragon on the field. Dylan walked over to him. “You put up a good fight. But do us all a favor and go back to teaching at the middle school,” joked Dylan. The teacher smiled and admitted Dylan into the Slifer Red dorm. As a matter of fact, since Levi didn’t have a room mate, he decided to put them both in the same room. The three of us rejoined with him and walked back to our seats to help Kevin prepare. Now, the thing is, none of the little ones have ever seem Kevin duel. The only reason that I have seen him duel is because when we were kids, I had an experience where kids were picking on me and Kevin stepped in and taught them a lesson. That was the last time anyone had ever insulted a Ryan. Although, when Kevin dueled on rare occasions, I paid attention to every card that he played, because he vowed to never change a card in his deck, that his deck was perfect as is. Kevin walked into the arena and saw who his opponent was; a little kid. At first Kevin was going to laugh, but he knew that there was a reason why they sent a kid to duel him. He was there to put Kevin’s skills to the test. I looked over at Levi and Dylan who were waiting to see the “legendary” cards that made Kevin’s deck a great competitor. “Let’s skip the introductions and just get straight to the duel,” said Kevin. “And the first move is mine. I don’t know how to tell you this, but you’re not even going to get a turn. I have everything I need to ensure a one turn victory. And it all starts like this. I activate 3 copies of Tremendous Fire. These spell cards inflict 1000 points of direct damage to you and 500 points directly at me (2500/1000). Lastly, I activate two copies of the life point stealing Goblin Thief. This gives me 500 of your life points (3500/0).” “I must say, you do come over as a cocky duelist, but you make for it in talent. However, because this is your first year here, Ra Yellow is your awarded dorm,” said the kid. “If you would, send your brother Brian in when you see him.” Dylan and Levi both looked at me like Kevin and used a strategy brand new to the game. While it is true not many people use direct damage decks, that isn’t the case for Kevin. I would actually be surprised if he didn’t have a one turn finish every couple of duels. Kevin and I exchanged glances as I walked down f or my duel. Dylan and Levi shouted “Good Luck” and I thanked them. Most people when they face an opponent, they are unsure of what their enemy brings. For me, it doesn’t matter. If you met me on an everyday basis, you would know how serious a person I am. But give me my deck and an opponent, that just brings out my inner child. The gloves come off and you’re in for a world of hurt. I looked as my instructor arrived into the duel arena. My duel was the last of the day and I could feel everyone’s eyes one my. That never bothered me, but it bothered my opponent. We both drew our 5 cards and I said “Let the fun commence,”
“I summon a monster in defense mode,” I said. “Now I place one card face down and activate the spell cards The Dark Door and The Gravekeeper’s Servant. The Dark Door makes it so that only one attack can be launched per turn. It’s your move.” “I summon Axe Raider in attack mode (1700/1100),” said my instructor. “Now attack with Battle Axe,” “Not so fast, I reveal the trap card Coffin Seller,” I said with a smirk on my face. “Now every time one of your monsters goes to the graveyard, you lose 300 life points. Now since you launched an attack my Gravekeeper’s Servant forces you to discard the top card of your deck.” “Not bad, the discarded card is Flame Manipulator,” said my tester as he showed me the card. “Since that was a monster, you lose 300 life points (4000/3700). As for your attack, you flipped up the Needle Worm (750/500),” I said. “And thanks to you, you have to discard the top 5 cards of your deck. So let’s get to it; throw out the top 5 so that we can continue.” “Very well,” said my tester. He looked at the cards and got rid of them. With out even moving, his life points dropped another 1200 to equal 2500. “I play Trade Off,” I continued. “You get to throw out your hand for a new one and I get to draw one card (4000/2500). Lastly I place one card face down and end my turn. Seeing as how you lost three more monsters, you lose 900 life points (4000/1600). I end with another monster in defense mode.” “My draw. Now I fuse Flame Manipulator with Masaki, the Legendary Swordsman to form Flame Swordsman (1800/1600). And I know that I lose 600 life points (4000/1000),” said the instructor. “I now attack your hidden card.” “If you haven’t learned not to attack my cards by now, you never will,” I said with a smile on my face. “Reveal Needle Worm (750/500). Send 5 more cards to the graveyard. All you need to do is send 4 monsters to their doom, and accept defeat.” My instructor drew 5 cards and looked from the cards back to me with an astonishing look on his face. He deactivated his duel disk and looked at me with mystery in his eyes. “Success, you are admitted into the Ra Yellow dorm with your brother Kevin. I must say that I am intrigued by your dueling skills. And that goes for all of the Ryan’s,” said my instructor. “I know that the older students wouldn’t say it, but you are the ones to watch out for. I know that both of your parents are a part of the faculty and I see where you get your skills. Go to the reception desk to receive your jackets and your registration packet for Duel Academy. Then you will be flown out to the island for a whole year filled with exciting duels. Until then Ryan’.” The instructor left and I celebrated with my brothers. We couldn’t believe that we were 4 of the 2000 students allowed to attend Duel Academy and participate in so much fun. This was going to be our year; we all felt it. “So, do you believe that they are going to be a threat?” asked an unknown masked man. “….. Not at all. Anyone that gets in our way will be taken out,” said another masked man with a smile,”

Ryumancer
This is why they should NOT have done away with script format. You should at least be able to do so in the duels, it's just easier to read. Though the duel itself wasn't that bad. I would put spaces in between the paragraphs though and more spaces in between separate events in the duels. That'll do wonders. Good though. Cthonian
Thanks... but on some of my older ones when I do that, I get attitude from people so I just left it like this.
Ryumancer
Thanks... but on some of my older ones when I do that' date=' I get attitude from people so I just left it like this.[/quote'] Sometimes those people can be pretty uptight. You just gotta find a way to get your ideals across efficiently. So that it's explanatory, yet simple. That's what writing is ALL about.
