Hello all, and thank you for looking.

I have decided to write a Yu-Gi-Oh! fan fic.

While I'm not known as the best writer, I hope I can impress you all, and at the same time, get you to continue reading.

Also, thanks in advance to Nexev for assisting and proof-reading ^_\\\

So please enjoy "Yugioh: We Who Are About To Duel..."
A young Alex Davis was walking during the early morning. Today is the day he was supposed to have his Entrance Exam into the Eastern Duel Academy. Excited by the opportunity, he looked on as he came closer academy arena. The bright sun only helped to make the smile on his face more apparent. After waiting for over four months, he was finally invited to join in the exam. He was going to do whatever is takes not waste this chance.

As he walked up to the front door of the giant arena, he took a second to think. Could he do it? If he did, what class would he be in? As he thought to himself, a cool breeze blew by. It blew his black hair, and the flowers around the arena. The flowers soaking up the sunlight, and the birds singing in the sky. The calmness of the moment calmed his nerves. He opened the door in front of him, and entered.
Alex entered the large building, only to find, well, that he is in a large room. Go figure. The room was circular in shape, with couches on a rug in front of him, and a desk with a woman standing behind it in the center of the room. He took notice of the young woman, and walked up to her. "Hello, ma'am. My name is Alex Davis. I was wondering when I am going to be dueling here today."

The lady looked up with a smile. "Welcome Alex, your duel will begin as soon as another young boy in Area B2 finishes his duel. They just began."

"Thank you ma'am."

Alex walked past the woman, into a hallway just behind her. Thanks to windows on either side of the hallway, Alex could see many duels taking place. Some people taking the exam seem to have the upper hand against their opponents, while others seem to be doomed. He just hoped he was not one of those people. He continued to walk until he reached another door. As he opened it, the silence of the room he was in immediately was blasted away by cheers of thousands of people in the crowd. He found his way through the crowd to row B2, and walked down the stairs. Another young boy seemed to be having trouble with his opponent. The screen at the top of the wall behind them told the tail. The exam teacher had a full 4000 Life Points, while the young boy had a mere 600.

"Now go! End this duel! Cyber Dragon, attack!"

The teacher pointed to the boy, and at the same moment, a large, metallic snake opened its mouth wide. A yellow light began to glow in its mouth, and its yellow eyes got much brighter, until the glow in its mouth finally revealed an energy ball. The ball quickly flew out of the snake’s mouth, and struck the child. The Life Point tracker on the screen showed that the duel was over, as the 600 remaining Life Points the child had left ran down to 0.

Boos echoed through the arena as the teacher put his cards back into his deck. "You sir could not beat a Ra Yellow, much less a Obelisk Blue. If you still want to enter the school, you will be put into the Slifer Red dorm. That dorm is for the weakest of our students. However, I doubt you will even stand a chance there. You couldn’t even touch me in our duel. I suggest you go home and practice, or get a new hobby."

The crowd booed and yelled at the teacher as the child began to cry. He picked up his cards, and ran off. "Guess he doesn't want to put himself through more pain at the school. One less slacker I suppose."

As soon as it was over, a new match was set up on the screen. On the left picture, it showed the exam teacher who had just beaten the child. On the right, it showed a black haired, average sized boy. It was Alex.

Administrator Robert Phillips Vs Alex Davis the PA system said to the crowd. Alex knew this was his chance, but from what he just saw, this was not going to be the easiest duel of his life. He made his way up the stairs, and looked into the eyes of his opponent. The blue eyes he looked into quickly shut, and a smile appeared on the face of Mr. Phillips.

"So, you're next? Tell me son, what do you think qualifies you to be accepted into our school?"

Alex smiled, "Well sir, I'll be glad to answer that as soon as you tell me what qualifies you to be an administrator."

"Good answer kid. Why don't I show you?"

Admin Phillips brought his arm up, and the duel disk on it took form. Alex did the same.

"Duel!" they both said.

"Mr. Davis, as you are the challenger, you are permitted to choose who goes first."

"Alright then, I'll let you go first. You did say you where going to prove something to me after all."

"So be it." Robert drew six cards from his deck, and Alex drew five. "I think I'll start out by summoning my Cyber Valley to the field."

A bright light emanated from the floor as a snake similar to that of the one Alex saw the teacher use moments ago slowly appeared. It was smaller in size, and had what looked to be a horn on its head. It let out a small, metallic cry, and looked right at Alex. "Your move, kid."

Alex draws a sixth card, and thinks for a second. He could simply summon a monster, and destroy his opponent's weak monster, he thought. However, he also thought about the two face down cards he played as well.

"What’s wrong kid? Do you really have to think that much about your opening move?"

Alex glared at the teacher, and finally decided on a move. He'll play it safe, he thinks.

"I set a monster in defense position," A black spot appeared above the arena floor, and the back of a yugioh card floated above it. "And set one card face down. Your move."

"My poor fellow, I summon a monster as weak as Valley, and you don't do anything about it? You may just be worse than the pathetic excuse for a duelist I faced before you."

Alex glared into the eyes of his cocky opponent. "Be as it may, I must still crush you."

Phillips drew a card from his deck. "I think I'll make it a little harder on you now. I play Future Fusion!" As he said this, a large ball of light appeared above them. Its rainbow colors illuminated the arena. "Now all I have to do is send two Cyber Dragons from my deck to my graveyard. Two standby phases. That’s how long you have until you face the power of my Cyber Twin Dragon!” In the orb of rainbow light, a feint shadow was seen. The shadow of what looked to be a two-headed snake. A mighty metallic roar came through the ball.

"I'll change my Cyber Valley to defense position, and end my turn."

The small snake like machine curled up into a ball, and a slight blue color covered it.

Without saying a word, and a sense of fear, Alex drew a card from his deck. "I'll play Foolish Burial."

A small gravestone appeared in front of Alex. "With its power, I can send one monster from my deck to my graveyard. I think I'll send my Dark Horus." Soon after, the gravestone faded away.

"Sending a monster as powerful as that? I hope you know what you're doing, kid."

"We'll see, wont we? I'll end my turn with that."

Phillips drew a card, and smiled. "One more standby phase my friend. But why make you wait? I'll bring some terror to you right now! I tribute my Cyber Valley for my Cyber-Tech Alligator!"

A multicolored light enveloped the cybernetic snake, and morphed it into a flat circle. Out of the circle came a large, dragon like creature, with metallic wings, claws, and armor. "Now lets bring the fight to him, attack my alligator!"

The creature roared, and jumped into the air. It then swooped down, and swung it's claw at the face down monster Alex played earlier. Right before the attack hit, the creature became visible. A small, red and white dragon, whose face had the look of a mask, appeared. It's green eyes looked at it's oncoming opponent, and it managed to react in time. It braced for the hit, but alas, it was not enough. A glorious explosion of shards replaced what used to be a dragon. The alligator flew back to the teacher’s side of the field, and roared again.

"Come on kid, don't be like the last kid. Do something."

"Fine, I will. Thanks to you destroying my dragon in battle, I can special summon another dragon from my deck. I think pick another one. I special summon another Masked Dragon!"

Another of the same dragon appeared in the raining shards.

"Lets hope that helps you, time is almost up for you. I end my turn."

Alex drew another card, and smirked a little. "This will all be over soon. I'll just end my turn."

"How cocky. Let me teach you a lesson, kid."

Phillips drew a card, and smiled. "This is it kid. I special summon Cyber Twin Dragon!"

The bright rainbow lights in the air began to flash, until a very large, two-headed dragon slows floated down to the arena, connected to the colorful lights in the air by a multicolored cord. It let out a loud metallic roar, each head doing its part to inflict more pain in each person’s ears that heard it scream. "Now, alligator attack!"

The alligator jumped into the air again, and again, swooped down and attacked the dragon with its claw, and again, an explosion of shards took its place. "Once again, I'll special summon another Masked Dragon"

"Fine, it won't be there long. Attack, my Cyber Twin Dragon!"

The mighty cybernetic dragon roared loudly out of both mouths, before one kept its mouth open. A bright yellow light began to glow in its mouth, just like the Cyber Dragon did in the duel before. And just as before, the twin headed serpent fired the blast at the Masked Dragon. The dragon curled up, and braced for the hit, and was instantly destroyed by the blast of yellow destruction.

"I'm not done yet, kid. You see, Cyber Twin Dragon has a special ability. My mighty machine can attack twice each turn! Now, attack once more!"

The second head reared up, and slowly opened it's mouth. Another yellow light begian to shine in its mouth, and as before, it shot out. This time however, it was aimed directly at Alex. Alex braced for the hit himself, just in time. The yellow ball struck Alex, and knocked him off his feet. He yelled in pain as the ball flows past him.

Alex's Life Points: 1200

The crowd looked on as they saw another child being taken apart by this teacher. They knew it is only a matter of time before he finally was defeated.

"So kid, are you done? You can save yourself further pain if you just admit defeat. Otherwise..." He points to his dragon, "My machines will rip you apart."

Alex slowly made it up to his feet

"I told you. This is almost over. Now that it's my turn, I think I'll show you what a real dragon can do!"

"Big words kid. Lets see what you can do. If you can't do it this turn, the duel is mine."

"Don't worry, I won't disappoint you."

He drew a card from his deck, and smiled brightly

"So, I think I'll bring this to an end."

The crowd seemed confused, how could he stand a chance against two powerful monsters while he has no monsters himself?

"I'll start out by activating my face down, Call of the Haunted! As you know, with this, I can special summon one monster from my graveyard. I'll bring back one of my Masked Dragons!"

Another gravestone appeared in front of Alex. Purple gas began to come out from the stone. Suddenly, the white, clawed arm of the Masked Dragon punched through the stone. The gravestone began to crack, until it exploded, and the red and white dragon was left in its place.

The teacher could believe his eyes. His opponent told him that he will win this turn, and he brought out something as weak as that?

"Are you serious? THIS is your victory plan? What are you going to do with that? Have it fly you home to your mommy?"

"Trust me. You'll be wishing you had a dragon to fly on once I finish with you. Now, from my hand, I'll activate Lightning Vortex!"

Mr. Phillips looked in disbelief. "L-l-Lightning Vortex?"

"Oh come now, teacher. Don't tell me I have to explain this to you. By simply discard a single card from your hand, all your monsters are destroyed. So I think I'll discard this, and wave goodbye to your precious machines."

Alex took a card from his hand, and put it into his graveyard. A cloud began to form in the air above Alex and Phillips. The sound of lightning echoed through the arena. Suddenly, two lightning bolts struck the two machines. Both let out their own metallic screams just before they where vaporized. The cloud quickly disappeared, along with the rainbow light show, leaving only the Masked Dragon on the field.

"Good move, kid. However, your dragon isn't nearly enough to keep your promise."

"Don't worry, teach. I'm not done with you yet. I remove my Masked Dragon from play."

The dragon was quickly consumed by a small, black hole in the air.

"Why would you do that? Do you WANT to lose?"

"No sir, the reason is..well..The reason is so I can bring out your doom. I summon Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon!"

Phillips looked in terror as the black hole dramatically grew to be several times larger than before. Slowly, a gigantic, dragon-like foot made its way out of the void. The black chrome color shined brightly as the lights of the arena focused on it. Another foot came out. The void began to move back toward Alex. As it did, more of the metallic beast could be seen. It's wings where extremely large, and covered in red, metallic lines, and had red crystals on each. The tail was long, and has many sharp spikes covering it. Finally, its head was sleek, and metallic. It was a color of black chrome, and its eyes where that of an orange fire.

"Meet your doom, teacher. Don't worry; he'll be getting to know you in just a minute. Before then, I think I'll use my dragon's special ability."

"A-ability? What does it do!?"

"I'm glad you asked. Simply put, I can special summon a dragon from my hand or graveyard. No questions asked. I know exactly what to pick, too. Remember when I used my Foolish Burial?"

The teacher’s eyes began to widen. He remembered when his opponent played that seemingly useless gravestone earlier. It never occurred to him that this kid might actually be planning something.

"Get ready to see what I put in there! Now, my dragon, bring your fellow dragon of darkness back from the dead!"

The metallic dragon let out a loud scream. A dim, orange light appeared next to the dragon. Slowly, a black figure began to materialize. First, the wings. The huge, black wings. Then the body. A pitch-black body, proportional to the size of the wings, slender, and sleek. Then the arms, which were also, pitch black, and small. Then the legs and feet. They where large, and round, and are pitch black themselves. Finally, the head. Black hair around the back of the head, and a black, beak like shape at the front for a mouth. It had yellow eyes, and a crown like horn on its head. On the crown, a single, golden jewel was being held.

"I summon my Dark Horus!"

Phillips looked on, as he knew he is doomed. He couldn’t think of any words to say. He just looked on in shock.

"Too much for you, teacher? Fine, I'll end it quickly! Red-Eyes attack him directly!"

The dragon opened it's mouth wide, and let out a roar. An orange ball began to take shape in its mouth. It grew larger and larger, until it finally blasted out of its mouth. It struck the teacher, who yelled in pain from the fiery blast.

Exam Teacher's Life Points: 1200

"I'm not done yet! Now, my Horus, finish him!"

The pitch-black dragon brought its arms close to its body. A black orb began to form. It slowly grew until it is finally the size of its head. The dragon let out a gigantic roar, and lets go of the orb, which flew quickly toward the teacher.

The teacher looked on, immobilized by shock as he watched the ball fly toward him, and hit him.

Exam Teacher's Life Points: 0

The crowd exploded, cheering for Alex. The screen above them told the tale. The picture of a white, black haired child, with brown eyes was shown. Alex had won his duel 1200 to 0. As the duel disks began to turn off, the cards on the field faded away. Alex walked up to the teacher. "I'd normally like to give you some time to process this loss, but I think the rules say you are supposed to tell me what class I am going to be joining."

Arrogance. That is the thought that ran through the mind of Phillips as he got to his feet. "How could I have been beaten by a child," he thinks to himself.

"You wanna know, kid?"

"Yes, I do." Alex responds, looking right into the eyes of Phillips.

"Fine. You're in Slifer Red."

The crowd was shocked. They booed, and yelled at the teacher.

Alex simply laughed, and looked at the face of his teacher.

"Is that so? Fine. I accept. Just remember, a Slifer student just beat you. Hope your next duel will have a better result than this, because you are not match for me now."

Alex walked off the stage, leaving his former opponent in a blaze of fury.

As the crowd continued to cheer, a white haired man closed his brown coat, and left the arena. "Maybe.."
The boat ride to the school... What could be said about it? It was a boring and annoying trip, to say the least. Oh, except for the, ya know, exciting part. People constantly annoyed Alex, peppering him with queries about his duel against the exam teacher. Alex knew his manners, and would respond with a simple "Thank you". He would then attempt to migrate to a secluded spot on the barge, in vain of course. The long ride didn't help Alex's mood, as it gave people time to become bored themselves. When people get bored, they get stupid. Arguments and fights broke out sporadically, but ended almost as soon as they began. They were all still children, after all.

As Alex went to the back of the ship to escape from his temporary fan base, he again was interrupted. A young man, who looked to be around 16 or 17, stood next to Alex in silence. Expecting the same questions and comments as he had received for the entire ride, Alex couldn't help but feel irked.

"If this is about the duel, thank you. Everybody has already said it all."

The boy laughed. He looked out to the ocean, his blue hair waving in the wind. "Now, is that any way to say hello?" he said teasingly.

Alex chuckled to himself, and turned his head to face the boy. "I suppose not. Hello, my name is Alex Davis. And yours?" The boy smiled. "Much better. Nice to meet you Alex Davis. My name is Leon Matthews." Alex smiled. "Nice to meet you, Leon. Did you have a question for me?"

"Not really. I just noticed you were standing alone. I think everybody needs to have at least one person to pass the time with."

"Really?" Alex laughed. He had been annoyed by everybody the entire ride. All his eager fans did was ask him about his duel and congratulate him. He had every right to feel irritated. Turning to Leon again, Alex Davis spoke warmly now. "Well, thank you. Shall we talk?"

Leon smiled, and the two continued to talk until the sun began to set over the sea. They would reach the school in the morning, and both decided to continue their conversation there while they get some much-needed rest before the big day. Alex went downstairs to the bunks. A poster was stuck to the front of the door. It read:

<---Obolisk Students

<---Ra Students

Slifer Students--->

Of course they would separate the Slifers from the others. Why wouldn't they? Alex sighed and opened the door. He was greeted by a small hallway, and did as the sign ordered, heading to his right. He soon came upon the Slifer quarters.

There were no doors, just curtains acting as doors to block the view of the three bunk beds in each room. A lot of the other students were already asleep, breathing peacefully. Seems they had the same idea as us. Alex smiled at the thought. He found his way to an empty bed, where is belonging where already lying. He chuckled to himself, thinking, "At least they do that, right?"

He was lucky. His bunk was on the bottom. There was no need to climb over any dozing Silfers. He set his belongings under his bed, and slipped himself under the cold, thin sheets. The pillow, or what they called a pillow, was rough and of course, nearly flat. Well, he would only have to go through this for one night, right? He continued to tell that to himself as he slowly drifted off to sleep.

"Hahahaha...."

Alex turns in his bunk, trying to ignore the laughs of some idiot who is talking in his sleep.

"Hahahaha...."

He rolls over again. Still, the chilling laughs keep coming. He finally sits up, and looks over to the next bed, where he heard the source of the sound. Empty. Nobody was there.

"Glad you're awake, little boy..."

Alex quickly jumped out of his bunk. Who the hell was that? he thought, his pulse pounding.

"Oh come now, little boy. Shall I show myself to you?"

The voice sounded dark, and cold.

"Yes, show yourself," Alex demanded, trying to cloak his fear with a strong voice.

The dark voice laughed. "Very well. Enjoy!"

Alex looked around, and saw nothing. He was beginning to think he was going crazy. Just as he began to calm himself down again, he felt a sharp pain in his right eye. It kept hurting, and wouldn't cease. The stabbing pain kept getting worse and worse. He ran out of the room, trying not to yell in agony. He located the bathroom on the end of the hall and ran as fast as he could towards it, covering his eye with his hand. He finally got to the bathroom, and flung open the door. He flipped on the dusty lights, and locked the door quickly behind him. "What’s going on with me?" he groaned, shielding his throbbing eyeball.

The pain was still getting worse. He uncovered his eye. An overwhelming sense of fear overtook him. Alex Davis couldn't see out of his eye. Everything was black. His heart began to pound. "Wh-whats going on!?" he stammered in fright, his powerful voice fading.

"Oh come now, little boy. You told me to show myself, and I have. Please, take a look. I would like you to at least look at me."

The dark voice almost seemed to egg him on. Alex couldn't believe what he was hearing, or what he was seeing, no, what he was not seeing. He leaned over the sink in the bathroom, breathing hard. He slowly brought his head up, and gaped in horror at his reflection. His right eye... A black aura had flooded the whites. As Alex watched in horror, a smoke-like aura flowed up into the stunned child's eye, and disappeared. His eye color had changed. The pupil was a yellowish color, while the rest of his eye was black. The dark voice began to laugh hysterically. "Did you get what you wanted, little boy!?"

"AAAAHHHH!" Alex sat up in his bunk. He was sweating, and breathing hard. He put his hand over his eye, not knowing exactly why. He just felt like he had to.

"Ugh...Shut up kid!" Moans and grumbles echoed off the other bunks as Alex's fellow Slifers shot him sleepy glares.

Apparently, some people don't care if a dark being invades your dreams. As long as they get enjoy their dreams of small kittens, and cartoon characters, they're fine. Alex tried to calm himself, pressing his hands against his chest. Unsuccessful, Alex Davis dragged himself from his bunk, and sleepily wandered up to the deck of the ship. He spent the rest of the night there.

Hours later, the sun had begun to rise. Off in the distance, a large island began to take shape. As the boat crept closer, the island became clearer and clearer. They where nearing the school. The red, yellow, and blue colors could be seen already. Being the first to see this was Alex Davis. He had spent the night on the deck; unable to sleep after his nightmare he had earlier that night. The voice, and the eye. What did they mean? He could not help but wonder. Wouldn’t you?
"Now! Cyber Phoenix and Vorse Raider, attack him directly!" A blond haired boy pointed across the stage to his slightly shorter opponent. He smiled in his yellow coat and blue pants as his chrome silver and orange mechanical phoenix and his mighty axe-wielding warrior made their way to the opponent.

"Not so fast!" the shorter, brown haired child began. "I activate my face down, Sakuretsu Armor on your Vorse Raider!"

The warrior stopped cold. It began to yell in what seemed to be pain, and then exploded into a flurry of shards. The blond haired boy looked on with no reaction, but must have been at least slightly annoyed. However, he knew his machine was still headed toward his opponent. "I'm not done yet! I activate my next face down, Scrap-Iron Scarecrow!" As the card flipped up from the feet of the brown haired boy, a small, iron, humanoid figure appeared. It sprang out in front of the machine, which attacked, and obliterated it. However, it quickly re-assembled into its former shape, and went back into the card from which it came. The card stayed up for a second more, and then went back face down. "You know the drill, right Mr. Ra? Scrap-Iron Scarecrow is set back face down after it has been used. Don't you just love it!?"

The blond haired boy closed his eyes, and smiled for a moment. "Fine. I'll set one card, and end my turn. Good luck."

The smaller boy drew a card from his deck. "I'll play my Skilled Dark Magician in attack mode!" The card flipped up, and a human-like figure floated out. It wore a black cloak, and carried a white staff.

"Fine. I'll activate my face-down, Threatening Roar. With this, you can't attack this turn."

The smaller boy grumbled a little, as he knew he had to do something this turn. The duel was over, as far as he knew it.

"Fine...Your move..."

The taller, blond boy drew a card from his deck. "That's it. Standby Phase number two. Remember those monsters I sent to my graveyard? My Future Fusion let me do that, so two turns later, I could bring about your end. Now, Chimeratech Overdragon, come on out!"

A blood churching metallic roar echoed through the rainbow colored lights above the arena. Slowly, an extremely large, metallic dragon floated down. It had six heads, each one screaming and roaring, causing as much pain in the ears of those watching the duel, as it was going to do to the opponent.

"Wait! Your machine...doesn't it send everything you control to the graveyard..including your future fusion?"

"Correct."

"Then why is it still here!?"

"Easy, my little friend. Cyber Phoenix has a very special ability. See, if a spell or trap targets a machine type monster I control, that cards effect is negated. So Future Fusion does not bring my machine with it. Now I'll send all the rest of my cards to the graveyard, leaving you to deal with my mighty machine."

The cards on the field all began to disintegrate, and disappear. Soon, they where nothing but a memory...that is, except for that one machine thing in the middle of the field. You know, that one dragon thing.

"If you remember correctly, which I hope you do, I sent ten machines from my deck to my graveyard. I'm about to show you why. My machine here gains 800 attack and defense for each monster that was used to fusion summon it. What is ten times eight?"

The brown haired boy looked stunned. He could barely talk. "e-eight thousand"

"Correct. My machine has 8000 attack and defense. More than enough to take you down. Go! End this my dragon!"

All six heads of the great machine turned to face the young brown haired boy. All six opened their mouths, and let out metallic roars as a yellow light began to glow inside each mouth. As they let out one last, triumphant roar, they released the light. Six large, powerful lasers shot at the boy's magician. It braced itself, but it was not nearly a match. The mage was instantly destroyed. The laser kept going, and hit the young boy, knocking him off his feet.

The blond haired boy smiled. “Good game, James."

James’ Life Points: 0

-------

"Okay students, what can you tell me James did wrong?" A young man said, standing in front of a large television screen.

"Sure, Mr. Bellphron. He was an idiot, and picked a fight with somebody better than him." a boy said in the back.

"Not quite the answer I was looking for, Leroy. What exactly did he do wrong, that cost him the duel?"

A young girl, about 16 years of age spoke up. "Easy. He used his Sakuretsu Armor on his opponent's Vorse Raider. Ha, he knew his opponent was going to bring out his machine, he should have known that phoenix's effect. He simply could have destroyed it with that."

The girl ran her hand through he long, brown hair, and turned away, not truly caring for the lesson.

"Correct. Thank you Mrs. Saga. Please, remember this, my students. Always know what your opponent can do. James did not pay attention to his opponent's cards, and that cost him the duel. If you do not know what is in your opponent arsenal, they have all the advantage."

Some students looked interested, while others, like Saga, didn't seem to care. Just then, a loud bell rang, signaling the end of the class.

"Take care, enjoy the rest of the day!"

Bellphron sat down in his desk chair, and took a deep sigh.

"I really hope one of my students will actually listen to what I say. They don't stand a chance against an unknown opponent..."

He quickly turned his head to the door to his right. He heard the fast steps of somebody running. Apparently, they where running toward his classroom. As usual, he was correct.

Another young man, who seemed to be the same age as himself stood in the doorway, panting.

"Mr. Gregg, to what do I owe the honor?"

Mr. Greggs attempted to catch his breath, and succeeded only partially.

"The...The.." He took a deep breath. "The new students are here. The others are waiting for you. Where have you been?"

"Oh? I was just teaching my students a little extra about-"

"It doesn't matter, we have to get there. There is word of some good duelists in the group."

"Oh really? Alright, lets go greet them."

Mr. Bellphron locked the door as the two left the room to meet the new freshman.
Alex was standing in front of the school. A fountain, with a sculpture of a large, sleek dragon in the middle was in front of him. The golden glow of the dragon brightened the rainbow colored flowers around the circular fountain. Its blue-jeweled eyes only added to its beauty. From the pose it was in, it looked like it was letting out a mighty roar. The school behind it dwarfed the fountain, of course. To the left, a sleek, rounded building, colored in a shade of blue glistened in the sunlight. To the right of that building, and only slightly to the left of the fountain, was another large building. It's shade of yellow caused those looking at it in the right light to squint from the light being reflected. Finally, far off to the right of the fountain was a house like building. It was much smaller than the other two buildings, of course. It's rusted, red color didn't help it look any better compared to the others as well.

Leon, who was standing next to Alex, bumped Alex on shoulder. "How would you like to be that they are sticking us in there?" he said, motioning toward the red shack.

Alex smiled. "Don't you know the way the stories always go? The good guys always go to a crappy little hole."

"I suppose you're right. However, what makes you think we are the good guys?"

Alex thought for a moment. He turned his head, and looked at Leon. He turned back. Back at Leon, and back again. "Wha-?"

"Hello students!" The loud voice of a young man interrupted Alex. "My name is Mr. Bellphron, and I welcome you to the Eastern Duel Academy!"

The sun reflected off his obviously dyed white hair. He stood smiling in his brown suit smiling for a moment, looking over all the new students. He was not very impressed. He let a long sigh escape his mouth. "How sad...I was looking forward to having some fun..."

Mr. Gregg, who was standing next to Bellphron, heard this. "Sad indeed. Oh well, shall we show them around?"

Bellphron let out one more sigh. "I guess so..Not even a rainbow shirt..?"

Bellphron turned around, and Mr. Gregg followed suit. "Alright, lets go students!"

The blob of students followed behind Bellphron and Gregg, taking in the wondrous land around them. After some time, and many various sights and descriptions, they made their way to the front of a large orange building. "This, students," Bellphron began, "is the main duel hall. Most of your classes that involve actual duels will take place in here. After classes, you are allowed to have your own duels here as well." This announcement caused smiles to appear on the faces of the students. Finally, they got to the part they cared for-well, that most cared for. Another student, Noah Cor, was more interested in the media center, while a group of larger students declared the cafeteria as their "home away from home."

Bellphron, noticing the smiles on most of the faces of the children, smiled himself. "Well, you all seem eager. Why don't we take a look inside?"

He opened the glass door behind him, and held it open as the students made their way into the building. They where immediately taken in by the look of the room their where in. It was white, with a futuristic feel to it. The tiles on the floor and the walls where smooth, and seemed to be exactly even with each other. There where three couches to the left of the entrance, each with a small table in front of them. Each table had a TV screen in the center of them. The wall to the left was covered with portraits of past students and guests that walked through this building before. In one of them, a black haired boy, with an Obelisk blue suit was standing with a smile in front of a silver, blade and armor covered dragon. Below the portrait was a small, gold piece of metal. "Princeton" was etched on it.

Directly in front of them was an enormous glass window. Looking out of it, the students realized they where above a fantastic arena. Thousands of seats awaited people to sit on them, and watch any duels taking place. There where many dueling arenas there. Spaced out two by two, there where twelve in all. A crowd of people surrounded one of them. A young girl, with pale white skin was standing over a blonde haired boy. She had a duel disk on her arm, and was laughing. She ran her fingers through her long, brown hair, and looked at the boy.

"Please, next time, please make it a challenge. Your a pathetic excuse for a duelist-if you call yourself a duelist."

The boy began to cry, realizing that he had been utterly defeated, and was now being made fun of on top of that. Two more girls, each slightly shorter than the laughing one, grabber the girls arms. "Come on Jane, you've done enough.."

"You're right, he's not even worth saying anything too. He needs a new profession."

She turned, and walked away.

Standing on the top floor, Alex and Leon watched as the girl stormed off in victory, appalled by what they heard. Of course, they also where looking at her because she was great looking.

Leon leaned over, and chuckled,

"Why do the pretty ones always seem to know it?" Alex didn't respond.

Suddenly Alex felt something on his shoulder. He turned, and saw the hand of a very tall student on his shoulder-the media center kid.

The yellow-jacketed student took a breath before speaking.

"Chicks like that...Ya know what they say about them..right?"

Leon and Alex stared at media boy blankly.

"Aww man..come on." He sighed lightly "Anyway! Name's Noah Cor. Nice da' meet cha'"

Again, blank stares. "uh...Can you take your hand off my shoulder, please?"

Noah complied, putting his arm at his side. "Sorry about that. So, I've heard a lot about-"

"Ya, thanks. I've already gotten a lot of 'good jobs' from people.."

Noah laughed, "You've got it wrong. Ya see, I have problems accepting rumors. I thought I'd ask you for a duel, see if you're really as good as everybody says you are."

Mr. Bellphron overheard the conversation, and thought it was a great opportunity to introduce the students to the arena. "Alright! It appears we have our first challenge of the semester! Why don't you boys get down there? We'll all be in the stands watching you!"

--Downstairs, duel arena--

The stands where only partially filled, the class size was still not nearly enough to make a very large impact in the arena. Never the less, there where still a lot of people waiting for the duel. Alex and Noah where standing directly apart from each other. Alex had an annoyed look on his face. He had no intention of being in a duel at this time. "This sucks...Oh well..I guess I should prove myself, right?

"I see you thinking there, Alex! Good! Lets see if a Slifer can beat a Ra!"

The two locked eyes for a moment, building the tension.

"DUEL!" the two yelled.

The screen above the arena turned on. A picture of Alex and Noah appeared, each with a 4000 next to their pictures.

"I'll start this off!" Noah said, drawing a card from his deck.

Mr. Bellphron sat in the stands, amongst the students. He seemed pretty excited about the duel. "I guess I'll get to see first hand what my new students can do." He smiled, and looked around him. The students all seemed excited as well. They all had heard so much about Alex; they wanted to see if he was worth the hype. Bellphron had the same hope.

"I'll start this duel by setting a monster face down."

The back of a card appeared in front of Noah, and disappeared, turning into nothing more than a black shadow above the ground.

"I'll just throw down a face down, and end my turn."

The same thing happened directly behind the first set card.

"You're move, Alex."

"Alright" he responded

Alex drew a card, and smiled.

"I'll start by summoning Exploder Dragon in attack mode."

A small, blue dragon flew out of the card. It had two claws on each wing, and seemed to be carrying an orange and black bomb.

"Okay..? Pretty weak dragon there, Alex."

"Don't worry, he'll only be there for a second. I release my Exploder Dragon so I can special summon my mighty beast, Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon!"

The blue dragon was engulfed in a rainbow colored light. The light got brighter and brighter, and became much larger. The light quickly flew back toward Alex, and disappeared, revealing an extremely large, metallic black colored dragon. It's red stripes, and ruby like jewels added a sense of dark beauty to the dragon.

Noah stared in awe. "A first turn 2800? Not too bad!"

"Not at all. Now, Red-Eyes attack his face down!"

The dragon opened its huge mouth, and let out a fiery blast, directly toward the black spot.

The monster appeared for an instant before being destroyed. A green turtle whose shell was what appeared to be a UFO, judging by it's chrome coating, and yellow lights, in the shape of a UFO, and was obliterated by the fire ball.

"Thanks, Alex! Because my UFO Turtle was destroyed by battle, I can pull out a fire monster from my deck! I think I'll bring my Solar Flare Dragon to the field!"

As the shards of what used to be UFO Turtle fell to the ground, a fireball appeared and exploded, leaving a snake like figure in it's place. It was covered in flames, and had two horns on its head. It opened its mouth, and let out a small roar.

"Fine. I'll set a card, and end my turn."

"Alright, lets get to work!" Noah drew a card.

"I'll start out by revealing my face down, Book of Moon! With this, I can make one monster on the field change to face down defense position!"

A stone book flew out of the card. It had Egyptian markings all over it, with a crescent moon in the center.

"I'll use it on your dragon, if you even need to me say so."

The moon in the center of the book began to shine, and fired a beam at the dragon. It lowered its head, and began to kneel. Slowly, it turned into a dark ball, and disappeared.

"I'm not done yet, buddy. From what I understand, your deck relies on your dragon there. If I where you, I'd run three. I'm willing to bet you are. So, with that, I'll activate this, Nobleman of Crossout!"

A sword shot out of the card like a cannon, and went directly toward the face down dragon. It appeared just for a second, before being pierced with the sword.

"You see, with this, I can destroy 1 face down monster on the field. Not only that, but the destroyed monster..well, it's removed from play. And if that wasn't enough..all the rest of your Darkness Metal Dragons are removed from play!"

Alex had a look of shock on his face. He had just lost his main win condition. The dragon began to disintegrate, until nothing was left.

The "crowd" of students and teachers watched as the most talked about student in the class seemed to already be on the losing end. Bellphron watched eagerly, thinking to himself. "Well now..lets see if my student has a way of getting out of this.."

Alex removed the other two dragons in his deck from play, and looked on as Noah let out a beaming smile on his face.

"Now then, I've still got a bit more to do here. I summon my Volcanic Slicer!

Another chrome colored creature appeared out of a fireball. It had no eyes, and had a dinosaur like shape. It let out a metallic roar, and turned its head to face Alex.

"Now, I'll order my Slicer to attack you directly!"

"Not so fast, I'll activate my face down, Threatening Roar! Now you have no battle phase!"

"Good job, I didn't want to beat you too fast anyway. Don't get happy, however. You see, when I end my turn, my Solar Flare Dragon special ability activates. As soon as I end, it attacks you for 500 points of direct damage! Guess what..? I end my turn."

The flaming snake opened its mouth, and released a blast of fire at Alex, scorching him. The screen above them showed a change in Alex's life points.

Alex's Life Points: 3500

Alex grimaced in slight pain for a second, but quickly regained his composure. "I think it's my turn now." He drew a card. "I'm not out of ways to win, yet.."

"I'll summon my Armageddon Knight in attack position."

"Why would you summon something so weak? Both my Slicer and Solar Flare can take it down easily."

"Because it has a special ability, of course. When it's summoned, I can send a dark attribute monster from my deck to my graveyard."

Alex sends a card in his deck to the graveyard, while listening to Noah poke some fun at him.

"That’s your ability? He hasn't done anything to help himself out, you know."

"He's right..but it might help me soon enough.. I'll set a card, and end my turn."

"Fine, I'll draw then. I'll set a card face down, and attack with my Solar Flare Dragon!"

The snake reared up, and fired a blast of fire at the knight. Armageddon Knight tried to protect itself, but it was no match. It was engulfed in the fire, and destroyed.

Alex's Life Points: 3400

"Now, my Slicer, attack him directly!"

The chrome dinosaur ran up close to Alex, and fired fireball directly at him. It struck Alex, who yelled in pain for a few seconds.

Alex's Life Points: 1600

"How disappointing...He isn't as good as they say.." Bellphron thought to himself.

"With that, I'll end my turn, and you know what that means."

The snake coiled up, and sprang up, firing a fireball at Alex, dealing even more damage to him.

Alex's Life Points: 1100

"Fine..I'll draw"

He thought for a moment, before playing.

"I'll set a monster face down, and I'll set another card. Your move."

"I sure hope you know what you're doing, Alex. You're going to lose soon, as this rate." Noah drew a card. "I think I'll start by setting two cards face down. Now, attack, Solar Flare Dragon!"

As it had done many times before, it curled up, and sprang at the spot, releasing a fireball. The face down appeared for a second before being obliterated. A blue jar with a wide grin, and giant eye appeared, and was then incinerated.

"Thanks to you destroying my Morphing Jar, we each discard our hands, and draw 5 more cards.

"Alright, good set I guess."

The two of them discard their hands, and drew five new cards from their decks.

"It won't save you, however. Slicer, attack him, and end this duel!"

The dinosaur ran up to Alex, and fired another fireball at him.

"I activate my face down, Magic Cylinder"

Two large, colorful cylinders quick took form. One was positioned in just the right place, and caught the fireball.

"With this, I can negate the attack of a monster you control...And fire it back at you!"

The other cylinder began to glow until it finally released the same fireball that had been fired at it back at Noah. It struck Noah, who winced in pain for a second.

Noah's Life Points: 2200

"Ouch..good move buddy. Don't think you're safe from any pain, however. My Solar Flare Dragon is still going to hurt you for 500 damage."

As usual, the snake reared up, and fried another small fireball at Alex, which of course, struck him.

Alex's Life Points: 600

"Your move, Alex. Make it good."

"Fine." Alex drew a card, and smiled lightly.

"I told you, I didn't just have one good dragon. I summon Dark Armed Dragon!

As soon as the card appeared, a black dragon flew out. It's wings where small, and a black chrome. It was covered in spikes, screws, and blades. The end of its tail was a weapon itself, being covered in spikes, with a drill at the end.

"H-how!?" Noah said in a panic

"Dark Armed Dragon can be special summoned if I have exactly three dark monsters in my graveyard."

"But..You only had two!"

"No..When Morphing Jar was flipped up, I discard my hand. I had a dark monster in my hand. It was another Armageddon Knight!"

The crowd and Noah looked, amazed that Alex was able to bring out such a strong monster. Even Bellphron was surprised. "He has Dark Armed Dragon? This might actually work out for him..

"I'm not done, Noah. My Dragon has a special ability. I can remove a dark monster in my graveyard from play to destroy any card you control. If you remember, I have 3 in my graveyard. I can destroy any 3 cards you control!"

Noah looked shocked; he didn't know what to do. How could he let Alex do this?

"Now, Armed Dragon, destroy his Solar Flare Dragon!"

The dragon responded by turning around, and striking the snake with its drill like tail.

"And his Slicer!"

The same thing, it drilled into the dinosaur.

"And finally, the first set card!"

It used its drill tail, and struck the dark spot, destroying whatever card was there.

"Now, Dark Armed Dragon, attack him directly! End this duel!"

The dragon turned around, and raised its gigantic arm. A black orb began to form. It grew larger and larger, until the dragon lowered its arm, and threw the ball at Noah.

"I'm sorry. You picked the wrong card. I activate my face down, Sakuretsu Armor! Your dragon is destroyed!"

The ball the dragon threw disappeared, and the dragon began to release blue steam from its body. Its chrome armor began to fall, until it had none. It roared, and then exploded into a shower of shards.

The crowd cheered, the duel was getting more and more interesting every turn. Even Bellphron couldn’t help but smile.

"Fine..I'll set a card face down, and end my turn!"

"My turn. I'll draw a card, and summon one more Solar Flare Dragon!"

Another snake like before appeared out of an explosive fireball.

The crowd had the same thought as Noah. The duel was over.

"Now, I'll attack with my Flare!"

It coiled up, and sprang at Alex, releasing another fireball directly toward Alex.

"I'll stop your attack with another Threatening Roar!"

The card flipped up, and a shockwave blasted toward Noah and his snake. The fireball disappeared, and the snake went back to Noah.

"Fine, but this will be your last turn. Once I end my turn, you will have only 100 life points. After that, I'll just end my next turn, and win this duel. So much for the famous Alex. I end my turn!"

The snake reared up one more time, releasing another fireball, which again, struck Alex.

Alex's Life Points: 100

"Your move Alex."

Alex looked at his deck, not knowing if he could do anything. He might be able to destroy his opponent's Solar Flare Dragon, but he knew Noah would have another card to hurt him right away. Even if he could destroy it, and attack directly, Noah still had 2200 Life Points. More than most of his monsters could deal. His Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragons where all removed from play. His Dark Armed Dragon was gone. He had no way of summoning the rest of his monsters so fast. The duel was over.

"Little boy.."

Alex's eyes widened. It was the same voice he heard on the boat.

"Come now little boy..Are you just going to lose like this? How pathetic..You'll never be powerful this way.."

"How can I be powerful then?"

The voice laughed loudly. However, it seemed only Alex could hear it. "Join me, little boy. Join me, and you will be powerful. You will win."

"Who are you?"

I am salvation. I am purification. If you join me, we will purify the world.

"What do you mean, 'purify?'"

"Only the strong survive, little boy..."

"Only..the strong?"

"Yes..you can be the one to decide who is strong, and who is not.."

Alex thought for a moment. Could he trust this voice? This cold, dark voice?

"No..I won't do it. I'm not going to help you."

"Are you sure, little boy..? I've been watching you for a long time now. You've been weak your entire life. With me, you can be powerful."

"You've been..watching me?!"

"Yes..Little boy, I'm a part of you. You and I are one."

Alex shook, he and this voice..are one?

"What do you mean?"

"What don't you understand, little boy? We are the same. Just do as I say, and you will win."

"Why don't you prove it to me, first?"

"So be it."

The voice laughed even more loudly, and began to fade away.

"Come on Alex, why are you being so slow? Just draw so I can end this!" Noah said, obviously annoyed

"Shut up." Alex drew a card, and his heart began to beat very fast. The card he drew..it wasn't part of his deck. He had never added it. He had never even seen it before.

"Little boy, you know what to do"

Alex smiled. He knew what the voice said was true.

"Alright, let me end this!"

The crowd seemed shocked. He is going to end the duel while he is so far behind? Many students broke out in laughter. "How are you gonna end it? You gonna attack yourself? Surrender!?"

Alex didn't respond, he just kept smiling. Bellphron looked on silently. He knew something was up.

"Fine. I'll play Mystic Plasma Zone"

The arena became darker as black clouds began to appear over Alex and Noah. Lightning bolts where surging though the clouds, and striking at random places around Noah and Alex.

"Mystic Plasma Zone is a field spell card. It increases the attack of all my dark monsters by 500, while decreasing their defense by 400. A small price to pay for a bonus like that."

"So..That’s your big play? A field spell? You don't have any monsters for that to affect anyway!"

"I'm not done yet, you idiot. Now..I'll play Smashing Ground! Your Solar Flare Dragon is destroyed!"

A crack appeared under the snake. It grew and grew. Finally, an explosion came up through the ground, obliterating the snake.

"And now..for me to end this..I'll remove a Red-Eyes Black Dragon in my deck from play..."

"Why would you do that!?" Noah responded in a slight panic

"So I can summon this. Malefic Red-Eyes Black Dragon!

The card appeared, allowed a giant black dragon to fly out. It was pitch black, with black claws, and horns. It's wings where white and black, and the top half of its head was pure white. It let out a gigantic roar and stared at Noah.

"I told you little boy..Now end this!"

The crowd looked astonished. Gasps came from everybody’s mouths. Even Bollphron was amazed. Nobody had ever had a malefic dragon before.

"Now, Malefic Red-Eyes Black Dragon, attack him, end this duel!"

The dragon flew into the air, and opened its mouth wide. A pitch-black ball began to form. It grew to be the size of the dragon's head.

Noah looked at the floor in defeat. He knew it was over. The dragon released the ball, and fired it at Noah. It struck him, putting Noah on his knees.

Noah's Life Points: 0

The crowd cheered, along with Mr. Bellphron. They had witnessed an amazing comeback, and a second win from Alex. Alex made his way to Noah, and held his hand out. "That was a great duel, Noah. Thank you for that."

Noah smiled, and grabbed Alex's hand. He made it to his feet, amongst the cheers of the audience. "No problem, Alex. Next time, I'll beat ya. By the way..What was that last card you played? I've never heard of it."

Alex stood for a moment, unable to think of a way to respond. "Trust me, I have no idea."

On the other side of the stands, a janitor was cleaning. He appeared to be mopping an area that some students are dropped a drink, and not bothered to clean it up themselves. He suddenly stopped. He took out his phone, and began to speak. "Sir, I found one."

Good.

You read the first chapter before reading the prolouge, cause you think you are so cool you can figure out the whole thing by yourself.

Then you act all smug, since it seems so ordinary.

Then you read the proulouge and your face becomes like this O.O.

It's so... cliffhagery and antiGxey

Well, okay. I'll be serious for a moment. You're writing is very nice and suspenseful, and I like all the description you brought in on the first paragraph of the prologue. However, I think you should also focus on the characters more, such as their thoughts and emotions. Right now, they seem a little lifeless. Your duelings scenes are fine as is, and I'm hoping to see more of this fanfic.

I have a life changing question. If a room is circular' date=' how can it have couches in all the corners?

[/quote']

Was meaning rounded, ya know?

Is 'no' a viable answer?

OT: The rest of the Fan-Fic is OK, but it is a bit too much like the first episode of GX.

No, it actually comes from the roman collesuim.

We who are about to die salute you.

The pledge all gladiators had to make before fighting.

Many of them slaves, forced to fight to death on the slight hope that they will win enough to be set free.

I came up with the title myself.
