FEDT: Defibrillated Yet Again, With Moar Consistency [Issue II-2 Released]

Guest Supreme Gamesmaster

So yeah, it's back. Not too much to say here.

I always preferred this one to the PMDungs, and since I couldn't find any good Touhou sprites, I decided to start this up again.

Plot-driven, yet funny; a golden balance. This is very Negima-like in tone. There's less fanservice, of course, but it's a good deal bloodier than Negima, so it's still PG-13.

[spoiler=Season I Summary]

Shana was one of the die-hard gamers who plugged into a Fire Emblem VRMMOSRPG... and awoke in Asgard, the mythologically dubious world of the dead. Soon befriending a bunch of dead people, along with the other gamers killed by the VRMMOSRPG, Shana must now lead her gloriously underleveled allies against the n00b armies threatening to seize Mount Olympus... while always maintaining in mind the mysterious martial machinations of the megalomaniacal murderous man named Valter.

[spoiler=Season II Summary]

In Asgard, where the Yama send souls over the Higan into Elysium, Asphodel, and Tartarus, all near the fortress of YHVH in Valhalla, who rules near the divine Triforce...

Well, that tells you the mythology of this world.

Now the plot: Someone has been killing terrestrial teens with a Fire Emblem video game and sending them to Asgard. Thus far, Shana, Rae, Tranquille, Nick, and Dominic are the only known victims, and they seem to be the new hope for the mighty heroes Athos and Durbans in repelling an army of n00bs and discovering the meaning of the evil Valter's movements. With an army of many killed on the battlefields and sick beds of Elibe and Magvel, Shana leads her party away from the imperiled Mount Olympus and towards the battlefields of Valhalla, where Durbans hopes the Valkyries will be able to give the team much-needed levels.

But Valter, the n00b King, and a mysterious third party that is only now revealing itself will all be in the party's way...

It's not as serious as it sounds, really.

This comic series is rated T, PG-13, et cetera for:

•sexual themes

•language

•animated blood

•fantasy violence

[spoiler=Season I: The Wrath of Valter]

[spoiler=Chapter I-1: Fire Emblem Simulation Program Spectacular]

[spoiler=Comic]

[spoiler=Comments]

1. Remember the überness of Feather Edges? IT'S BACK, if only for one panel.

2. There is exactly one original character in this comic.

3. Since there are going to be a ton of recolors anyway, I guess I ought to warn you that all the battle-style sprites will be, true to the game, recolors.

4. The above will hold true until an unspecified time at which I can a) do the edits for all the original characters and b) write in a non-promotion transformation.

[spoiler=Chapter I-2: Mysterious Grampappy]

[spoiler=Comic]

fedcomic002qa9.png

[spoiler=Comments]

1. The Feather Edges are FEATHERYER.

2. Expect to see the above in a comic if I have nothing better to do with the plot than break the Fourth Wall.

3. The off-screen character is not Davok's cameo. Now you know who it is.

[spoiler=Chapter I-3: Valter's Mêlée]

[spoiler=Comic]

fedcomic003mc5.png

[spoiler=Comments]

1. This is the first serious comic.

2. The damage and accuracy formulae are exactly the same as in-game.

3. Risa moved innocuously off-screen between comics; she obviously can't face a Level 13 Dragoknight.

[spoiler=Chapter 1-4: Critical Hit!]

[spoiler=Comic]

fedcomic004oh8.png

[spoiler=Comments]

1. This will be a running gag, so get used to it.

2. Critical hits will always be long and dramatic like that.

[spoiler=Chapter 1-5: Dead as a Doorknob]

[spoiler=Comic]

fedcomic005.png

[spoiler=Comments]

1. Yes, they are really in Asgard.

2. Renovations! Thus far, I've just changed the font from AnimeAce 2.0 BB to Lafayette Comic Pro.

3. All-caps is meant to reproduce the effect of bolded words in comic books, as there is now a difference between capital and lowercase lettering.

4. Soon, those custom sprites will be coming, along with face sprites.

5. Possible future renovations include outlines on speech bubbles (probably not; it's tedious enough as is) or FE-style speech bubbles (again, probably not).

6. Ah, and look forward to Leila, Frederick (Franz/Forde's father, for those who don't know), Davok/Calculant, Kyubi/Rae, and the FIRST ANIMATED COMIC!! in the next five installments.

[spoiler=Chapter I-6: Jeigan-B-Gone]

[spoiler=Comic]

fedcomic006.png

[spoiler=Comments]

1. The cameos are fighters whose provided names are the names with which they applied for the Fire Emblem Simulation Program Spectacular, which is apparently an electric chair.

2. The unnamed characters are Azura Kyubi/Rae Valentina, Queen of Spades; and Frederick Romage, father of Franz and Forde Romage and former Knight of Renaïs.

3. There is still dispute as to how Jeigan/Jagen should be spelled amongst the inhabitants of Asgard and Hylas, so expect to see lots of variants.

4. Depromotion can only happen once every five battles, and a thief has to spend their turn with no allies within three spaces of them in order to pull it off.

[spoiler=Chapter I-7: In Your Face! Part 1]

[spoiler=Comic]

fedcomic007.png

[spoiler=Comments]

1. Note that all mugshots will be, in some way, customized, with the exception of characters that were in-game to begin with.

2. Shana's mug is probably the least original I'll come up with; however, that's for a very good, plot-related reason.

3. Yes, they do have stats. Like I said before, battle is conducted as if this were an FE game.

4. If a level-up shows a stat +1, that means that one is added to the previous value. For example, Hector now has 8 STR and 6 SPD.

[spoiler=Chapter I-8: In Your Face! Part 2]

[spoiler=Comic]

fedcomic008.png

[spoiler=Comments]

1. Every level these guys have will be at least decent, except for crap people like Marcus.

2. I had intended to animate this, but I rely on layers too much for comic production; besides, it would be in a different file format.

3. Yes, all of the magic will be Slayers-based; incantations are either in Elfpanese or Latin, with Latin representing the stronger, Dark-magic spells.

4. IDK why I did Hell Blast in Elfpanese, now that I've said that.

5. I forgot to add blood. >.<

[spoiler=Chapter I-9: When Zombie n00bs RP...]

[spoiler=Comic]

fedcomic009.png

[spoiler=Comments]

1. Behold the wrath of the n00b Empire's second-in-command, lolperson78!

2. The n00b King, that soldier guy, is even stronger, FYI.

3. The FEATHER EDGES OF EPIC will be used whenever multiple people are shouting at once.

4. If your RPing characters are anything like lolperson78 with his OPd Stone equipped, please be aware of your n00bishness.

[spoiler=Chapter I-10: We All Fall Down]

[spoiler=Comic]

fedcomic010.png

[spoiler=Comments]

1. Using Slayers magic gave me a curious loophole I just had to exploit.

2. The FEATHER EDGES OF EPIC are making regular occurrences.

3. One guess as to the first support conversation.

4. I put this thing up post-completion in record time. O,x

[spoiler=Chapter I-11: Accidentally Perverse Per Murphy]

[spoiler=Comic]

fedcomic11.png

[spoiler=Comments]

1. Muahaha. You were saying, Kyub?

2. Huzzah for the Tent Of Merlinus.

3. Feather edges are as ubiquitous as curses in this comic, despite the many, many angry people. O,x

4. No, Frederick does not have a legitimate reason to use the commodes for ten minutes.

5. The main difference between Karel and Davok is that Davok is sadomasochistic, while Karel is just sadistic.

[spoiler=Chapter I-12: Patron Saint of Blue Behemoths]

[spoiler=Comic]

fedcomic12.png

[spoiler=Comments]

1. In the game, you will have the opportunity to control Durbans. He's like Wolf from FEI/FEIII/FEXI, except that he's a Berserker rather than a Ranger/Horseman/NomadicTrooper.

2. That said, in FEXI, make Wolf a General, please.

3. There are few coincidences in my comics. Even unconnected speech bubbles rampant in early issues serve purposes.

4. I did mention that I'm making FEDoomsday as a hack game, right?

5. FYI, that cave is really a bottomless abyss.

[spoiler=Chapter I-13: Tranquille X Shana, C Support]

[spoiler=Chapter]

fedcomic013.png

[spoiler=Comments]

1. The psychopath is in luuuuuuuuuurve. Diss at your own peril.

2. Davok is only nice for two reasons: conservation of resources, and Shana.

3. Two reps to anyone who can name every reference in that reenactment.

4. Notice: when feather edges are outlined, and then repeated, they become MOAR EPICZ. And, of course, FEATHERIER.

5. Despite that delectable innuendo, she's only talking about being able to clone herself. ...Thus far.

[spoiler=Chapter I-14: Jerme and the Jermidae]

[spoiler=Comic]

fedcomic014.png

[spoiler=Comments]

1. Frame seven is EPIC.

2. Feather edges aren't in this one. Phooey.

3. On the bright side, SFX Layer showed up! Happy day!

4. Major chara count: Two out of Eight Legends, three out of nine Lords, no Enladian or Magvellian Legends, and no one from Enladis (except a mention of Sangre, though he hasn't shown up yet).

5. Interpret panel one as you will; Lyn is supposed to say the last line, though.

6. This is a serious comic, although you should already know this.

[spoiler=Chapter I-15: They're Like Weeds]

[spoiler=Comic]

fedcomic015.png

[spoiler=Comments]

1. The "Cavalier" in the first panel should be capitalized.

2. It was too chaotic to add damage, so I cut it out. Blow-by-blow:

2a. Karla does 10 damage twice; Jermides Fighter dies.

2b. Hector does 32 damage; Jermides Cavalier dies.

2c. Davok does 15 damage twice; Jermides Cavalier does 9 damage and dies.

2d. Shana does 30 damage; Jermides Fighter dies.

2e. Karla does 30 damage; Jermides Fighter dies.

3. Davok's warning is not ironic, though he is the only one who is hurt this chapter; everyone else will be harmed at some point during the next chapter.

4. The Feather Edges has returned. But he says that the light coming from the treasure chest is so bright that if he turned the camera towards it, they will explode. I mean, really. It will literally explode. As for the sunglasses, I have no idea where they came from.

[spoiler=Chapter I-16: They're, Like, Losing]

[spoiler=Comic]

fedcomic16.png

[spoiler=Comments]

1. I have an excuse; I've been in Boston for the last week.

2. As a pilgrimager, mind, not a tourist.

3. The scrying glare was a pain in the ass; had to do two speech layers.

4. A friend and I are doing a much more serious, drawn webcomic soon. It'll be on my SmackJeeves account (Supreme Gamesmaster Yddisac, obviously) alongside this.

[spoiler=Chapter I-17: The Unstoppable n00b War Machine]

[spoiler=Comic]

fedcomic017.jpg

[spoiler=Comments]

1. HV UPDATE: Script for the first issue is done; IDK when it'll be released.

2. Obviously, I'm going to be more active from here on out.

3. What did you expect, that I'd take a storyline as cliché as the n00b army and not put a philosophical twist on it? -.-

4. For the record, the Tarvos's accuracy went from 33 to 78 after acquiring the Swordreaver... plus the Swordreaver's gonna do more damage than the steel axe anyway. Reason to panic.

[spoiler=Chapter I-18: Well-Timed Levels and Turning Tides]

[spoiler=Comic]

fedcomic018.png

[spoiler=Comments]

1. Sorry about last comic being in .jpg form. That was for ease of uploading to SmackJeeves.

2. That said, read here for this (where it's still in PNG form), and go to SmackJeeves for HV.

3. HV UPDATE: Nothing's happened.

4. The Feather Edges told you they'd be back.

5. No, really, I'm that obsessed with Feather Edges that I keep track of how long they've been absent.

6. That said, say where they last showed up (and name the video I referenced) to get a virtual cookie.

[spoiler=Chapter I-19: Epileptic Swordless Team Hyper Force GO!]

[spoiler=Comic]

fedcomic019.png

[spoiler=Comments]

1. I've actually had this one done for months; IDK why I didn't post it.

2. Dolph Strash is actually a supersonic wave, but I hadn't discovered Unthinkable Natural Law yet, so that was the best thing I had to describe it. It pretty much ended the battle, and that's about how powerful the real thing is.

3. We're out of the mountain tomorrow, so those looking for comedy can rejoice.

4. Nino is actually going to pull a Sanae for a bit. Look forward to facing Nino's Foe after recruiting two-thirds of the Eientei Trio.

5. If you get that reference, good for you. If not, go download Touhou no Meikyuu, NOW.

6. HV Progress: I rewrote the first chapter and it's about 110% more awesome. So.

[spoiler=Chapter I-20: Out of the Frying Pan]

[spoiler=Comic]

fedcomic20.png

[spoiler=Comments]

1. Actually, it'll take two issues to explain what Lyn was up to.

2. That'll also explain why Durbans suddenly wants them off Mt. Kleos, and what's up with the second Magikarp.

3. It has nothing to do with the reinforcements, I assure you.

4. I'm certain I had another purpose for Lyn's disappearance eventually, but I forgot, so I used her bizarre kamigakushi to make this even more of an oddly FE-centric mega crossover than it was to begin with.

5. Nino and Feather Edges, in the same comic. REJOICE.

6. I couldn't fit everyone in the flying panels, obviously; it was a nightmare trying to as is.

[spoiler=Season II: The Convalescence on Yggdrasil]

[spoiler=Chapter II-1: And Now For Something Completely Different]

[spoiler=Comic]

fedcomic21.png

[spoiler=Comments]

1. Season II has begun!

2. Aaaand I'm going away for a week on vacation. -.- I'll pop in with random filler from create.swf and maybe some written stuff, so the thread won't die, but at the same time, no actual updates.

3. I love the perspective in the third and fourth panels.

4. I don't think I even need to tell you the next chapter's title, but at least I made it relevant first.

5. Yes, Hanon is depromoted. Yes, there's a reason for that. No, it doesn't involve a thief.

6. Aurea is basically in the same role as Shana, but she handles things much differently; where Shana goes in thinking it's a game and begins acting accordingly, Aurea realizes something is wrong right away. She also has a really good memory and can lie very well, but her interpersonal skills are worse, and she's more reckless than the uber-cautious no-death-runner Shana. She's far more serious than the folks around her, who are as silly as always.

7. That said, they're gonna be more serious than usual by virtue of having Hanon, Felicia, and Aurea comprising 75% of thier party. The comic will be back to normal when they join the others.

[spoiler=Chapter II-2: Through the Wall of Jericho]

[spoiler=Comic]

fedcomic22.png

[spoiler=Comments]

1. NEVER OVERESTIMATE INTERNET CONNECTIONS. -.- Oh, well; at least I was prompt with this.

2. My skillz in Danmakufu programming have paid off, and I made a custom player and stage... except now I'm having horrible luck with graphics. So please don't hate the text arrangements with this all that much. Be glad it's here at all, and not an invisible hitbox with a little dot in focus fire.

3. Just a bit of on-the-nose Gilligan cutting for those who'd like to subvert later. Also, some insight into the mind of liar and straight woman extraordinaire Aurea.

4. ...yes, I really meant straight there. For once, the most badass female isn't the lesbian.

5. Neither is Lyn.

6. While we're on the topic, yes, I do ship Sonblaze, though I'm hardly militant about it.

7. Geez, I'm really filling these comment boxes lately, aren't I?

[spoiler=Credits]

INSPIRATION

Seraphim Swordmaster -- For the Fire Emblem Online Comic, which served as inspiration.

A Shadamy comic author whose name I forget -- For his/her/its/potato's comic, which served as inspiration.

Ken Akamatsu -- For Mahou Sensei Negima!, which gave me a good idea of the tone the comic would have.

Hajime Kanzaka -- For The Slayers, from which I take the magic system for Doomsday Tales.

SPRITES

ulf2 and Gamenerd Advance -- For the Desert Palace Zone background used in Chapters I-1 through 1-4.

Skylights -- For the Angel Island Intro background used in Chapters I-6 through I-9, and for the Ice Cap Zone background used in Chapters I-11 through I-20.

Enterbrain -- For the Hell Blast, Divination, Digger Volt SFX.

Feather Edges Tool -- For making über things like thought bubbles and *LE GASPS!!* possible.

Path Tool -- For the ability to make slightly non-crappy speech bubbles.

GIMP 2.2 -- For being a free utility upon which layers can be accessed, and serving as a medium for comic production.

CHARACTERS

Ancient Norway -- Norse mythology

Ancient Japan -- Shinto mythology

Ancient Greece -- Greek mythology

Nintendo -- Fire Emblem

Lord Davok, Kyub, Fenrir, Bloodlust (or whatever their usernames are now) -- Original characters

[spoiler=Cameos]

As in PMDung, I will take cameo appearances from YCM members. However, it's a bit different this time, as you have far less control over your cameo. For example, the personality, role, et cetera are entirely out of your hands. For these, you do the exact same thing as Shana in I-1: provide only the character name and class.

The personality of a cameo will be derived from the member who submits said cameo; for example, should Lord Davok apply, his character would be a Karel-esque psychopath, while if Eternal Zodiac were to submit a character, said character would be an irrational optimist who makes liberal use of hyperboles.

I changed my mind; cameos WILL be included in the FEVII hack, since there's way too many characters in FEVII for me to fill. I can just make Durbans and Athos NPCs.

[spoiler=Actual Game Progress]

[spoiler=04-18-2010]

Well, I haven't started the script, mostly because my last attempt at parsing ruined the parser after one use, but the playable characters have pretty much been rewritten. It was a pain trying to decide who to make bad... :(

Oh, well. The enemies will be a lot stronger than usual, anyway, so it doesn't really matter all that much. And obviously, Miledy will be much better than Frederick. (Sorry, Frederick, but Miledy is WIN INCARNATE.)

[spoiler=04-19-2010]

Names and stats have pretty much been exchanged; work on gameplay will start when I get back.

Patience. It hasn't even been a day yet; forums are slow machines, however effective.
