The anime has no direct correlation with anything in the game (except basic storyline elements). And 4kids decided to be a dumbass and make an "WHO'S THAT POKEMON?!" segment where Seviper evolves from Arbok. If I tried that in game, my game would probably laugh at me and then proceed to rip my balls out.

 

And Smogon may be an unofficial site, but they are the leading site in competitive battling, and base stats (and thus EVs, IVs, and min/max stats) were found out FOR competitive battling, as early as RBY.

 

At least I don't rely on shitty Prima guides who say Heracross' Base ATK is 470, or whatever.

You obviously forgot to channel the Thunderbolt through your Pikachu first.

Just a guess, but the programmers of the game didn't specify what Pokemon can and cannot appear in those boxes. So it bases the Pokemon off of your trainer name (in HEX digits), resulting in abnormally high-leveled Pokemon with odd moves.

 

Missingno can learn Water Gun... twice! Take that, Totodile!
