The door is at an airport, and that is the way to the gates, the security, the check points, etc.

 

Going in that direction is the exit to the country.

The door is meant for traffic control. The lined slots on the top and beside the door allow you to slide something like a curtain of sorts (refer to mall stores, etc.) into the slot.

 

When there is a large amount of traffic (or some crime-based reason), you would have somebody stand at the door and check each person's identification, fare, etc. out one by one. If there is low traffic, or people don't care (or some other occasion), you'd just open it and let people go by normally.

 

And if the station ever needs to shut down a section or the whole thing, you'd use it to close it off as well.
