Recommended Posts

As stated in subject. I'll be designing the following:

A basic Negima deck (Including various spell cards)

A Kyoto expansion

A School Festival expansion

And finally an Ala Alba/Magic world expansion

All these sets and expansions will include general and secondary characters and spells. Most of the cards will be balanced as well. Please look forward to the cards that will be made in the weeks and months ahead. :P

Basic Set: 60 cards, 37 monsters, 18 spell cards, 5 traps.

I can appreciate what you're doing since I have two Ala Alba sets. The first shows character progression and development. The second is more of a snapshot of how they are as of the end of the manga (rushed as it is). I also took the manga and OADs as my main sources, although Negi's ability to reflect an attack back comes most vividly into play during his first confrontation with Eva in Negima!? I feel Negima! Is not as good a source as you could find, because the characters' true strengths are never really displayed, however that is only my opinion, and I applaud you for your efforts.

I believe the term is 'ATK,' not 'ATT.' Consistency appreciated, however the term is on the card as a stat, after all.

Negi: Is the Token system his valkyrie summon? He has a number of great feats, including Jupiter's Thunderstorm. I note the picture is from the MahoraFest Arc, which was never animated.

Library Island Golem: Stats should be raised, in my opinion. A lot.

Chamo: Should be listed as 'Albert Chamomile' or just 'Chamo.'

Eva: Not sure her ability suits her, seeing as how she's a 'lone wolf' type instead of a team player.

Chachamaru: Please take care with her name. It's 'Chachamaru Karakuri.' She should have 'peak' stats.

Yue: Not a SPELLCASTER-type until the Summer Training Arc.

Ku/Kaede/Mana/Setsuna: These four are already martial artists of some skill at the start of the series, so they should have peak or beyond-peak stats. Mana and Setsuna, at least, are also Exorcists, so they should probably have effects that carry well against FIEND-types. Check out what I did for them in my newer Ala Alba Set.

... Baka Rangers: I believe you mean Counters, not Tokens.

Asuna: All Spell effects, or just offensive ones, or a certain number of offensive spells per turn? I chose to limit it, especially as she doesn't have a good handle on Magic Cancel to start.

Sayo Aisaka. Kaede Nagase. Akira Ookouchi. Misa Kakizaki. Madoka Kugumiya.

Konoka: Similar to Yue, not a SPELLCASTER-type until the end of the Kyoto Arc. As Eva says, she's a magic battery.

Mahora Night Hunters: You sure you don't want to add an effect? I know I did.

Contract Spirit: Umm, so what does it do? Same for the Pactio!!! card.

Mana: You have the option of using her real surname, Arcana, later on. Feel like being sneaky?

Lingshen: Uh-oh. Never heard of a Level-4 with both ATK and DEF so high. Either back it down or make her a Level-5.

Chizuru: One of the students on my 'watch' list because she possesses an unusual Speed feat and enough Intimidation Factor to quiet Kotarou. The other student is Akira, who has Speed, and inspired Negi to write 'Very Strong' next to her name.

Fuuka and Fumika: Aww, playing them as a single card? They'd call that cheap.

Vampiric...: I've never heard of 'Minionization' being a word. Perhaps 'Subjugation' or 'Control' is better. Better yet, I've always included Control as one of Eva's effects.

Library Island: I recognize that picture. Did you make it a Spell on purpose (because of 'Nodoka's Trap Detection Skills?') Just kidding: it's a Field Spell, I know. On the other hand, you're asking to roll 1 die and only counting two different effects, with greater chances of the result favouring the controller than the opponent. That's not right. Either change it to flipping a coin, or do something like even vs odd (in which case it may as well be a coin) or add different effects to take the other sides of the die into account. Cards are allowed to be tough as long as they're also fair.

Overall a good start. Can't wait to see the other cards, plus your Traps when you fix them.

Thanks for the heads up about those. Looks like the local translators messed up on the names, as I am taking them from a translated roster. I'll get to rewording the cards once I complete the basic deck, then I will move to Kyoto.

Negi: Will probably end up with counters as his first ability, I'll give enemy weakening during Kyoto.

Keep in mind that Ku, Mana, and the rest don't show off their serious skills till much later, I am planning on making them much stronger in the expansions

The Pactio and spirit of the contract cards are meant for the Ministra Magi Ritual cards, which I will be revealing as the expansions open up. I thought about giving Asuna her ritual with the basic, but realized that she doesn't really tap into that power until the Kyoto arc.

Fuuka and Fumika: I know what you mean (laughs) But it also goes with their nature quite well, as they are rarely to never separated.

Baka Rangers: Yep... Counters. Noted for changing.

Library Island: I gave it those abilities mostly since I made it a secret rare, and thus would have excessively powerful effects. I think I will change it to a coin flip though.

Asuna: I'll probably edit it any lethal effects, then go to all spell effects in Kyoto.

Eva: I made her power that as a nod to the first major fight between her and Negi, as she still has her limits, and thus had several servants with her as she fought Negi.

Chachamaru: As she is still in her first generation body as far as the story goes, I decided to wait on giving her massive firepower.

Mahora night hunters: I am sure I will give it a powerful ability, but I'll have to do some reading on the rules of the newer cards, Like Sycros, unions, and the like. I want to make sure It can't be cheap-killed after all the work to summon it.

Thank you for the input, it will go to good use.

You're welcome. Feel free to browse and comment on my sets if you want.

It's amazing how clear it is that Evangeline was barely lifting her pinky in that first fight against Negi, especially in contrast to the later fights -- but she even says right there that she does not have any intent of killing him (heh). In my sets, a significant part of her ability to stay on the field comes from being able to redirect attacks and effects at Chachamaru or Negi, who are extremely powerful in their own right, especially later. I had a lot of fun with the spells.

I only used Unions in the Dungeon Crawler Set, and only with Familiars, I believe. They can attach or detach once per turn, I think. I ended up with something similar in my Star Wars sets because I chose to focus on the fighters, which would have their pilots. Except for the Force-users, the pilots in those sets are all Spell cards anyway so I didn't give them the Union archetype.

I am also uncomfortable with Tuners and Synchros, choosing to go with leveling monsters, and Fusion Monsters that fuse through their abilities the way Elemental Hero Neos does, instead. Since I do not watch Zexal I do not know the first thing about Exceed Summons, but hope my guys can stand up to them as well. I probably shouldn't worry, given all their abilities and such.

In my opinion there is not anything wrong with going 'old school.'

Funny: I haven't noticed any problems with either.

EDIT:

Don't forget to account for physical ability in you sealing card: not all ability is tied up in magic for certain. Negi himself is a good example, being a Kung Fu Disciple. Evangeline's an even better one, since she mastered Aikijujutsu.

True. I'll make it so it drops the atk and def to around 1000. I'll add that they can no longer use their abilities as well, as it would not make much sense otherwise.

I store all my cards at photobucket, so they can be all grabbed at a moments notice. It just so happens that no matter what I do to the two trap cards, that they keep saying that they have been removed or deleted: even though when I go to edit, they pop up like nothing is wrong.

Edit: Yep. Tried Reuploading, uploading from other sources, changing name and url around. It's only the traps so it's annoying...

Also last monster cards for the basic series will be released tomorrow. I am planning on 5 more spell cards, but only if I can find good pics to use for them. I'll be doing more than enough cleaning and coloring for the school festival thank you very much...

Poor Satsuki got her pic squashed! And is it not 'Sakura Lane?' I'm sure you could find better pictures with which to replace the blurry ones. I find most of my pictures with a Google search, and in Deviantart. Heh. Zazie. I look forward to seeing her Nightmare Circus version.

Sadly, I'm using both google and bing for my searches, so I guess the localization effect of online searches is working against me. I only look in Dev rarely.

I find it interesting that you've chosen to use the Latin for 'Jovis Tempestas Fulguriens' and the English for 'Sagitta Magica Series Lucis.' It's also interesting because these are standard attack spells for Negi: what else would he use, by default? For 'Temporary Provisional Contract,' because that's not the effect or name for a contract, I think you should call it 'Sis Mea Pars,' the keyphrase for activating the mana-transfer function of a Contract -- this is what your picture shows happening.

Also, a common grammatical mistake on 'As If Numbers Matter:' 'summoned no monsters' should be 'have not summoned any monsters.' Yeah, grammar is something that needs to be watched.

Yay, it's Chachazero! Insane, but funny. For 'Evangeline's Resort,' do you also have a function that lets you remove the monster from the card instead of letting it get destroyed (what's the point of training if they don't get to fight)? I'm not even sure the Diorama Spheres can be destroyed. Well, I may say that but not in front of Rakan: he's the sort who will actually try. Is the Evangeline referred to in 'Preparation for the Strongest' a stronger version? If it's not, isn't she Level-4 anyway? Or are you trying to create a 'Shadow Gate' effect?
