But seriously' date=' it's a problem.

In what way? :S

I hate people that became fat after eating too much and then gets angry when someone calls them fat.... its their fault ' date=' isn't it? :/[/quote']

Sure, it's their fault, but you don't need to be a smartass about it and point out something that they already know.

And if they're being asshats first?

Not to forget that the BMI isn't really reliable. Because for tall people, like 1,90+ it doesn't work and not for small people either. Sure if you have a BMI of over 25 it's quite the indication that you have a bit of a problem there but other than the extremes it doesn't tell you much.

I've been having debates about this with people I know who want to become nurses or something. It makes me cringe that something like this is being taught like the 1 and 0 of weight...no wonder that in the next survey the entire country is either anorexic or ridiculously fat. And for people who workout a lot and have quite the pack of muscles it makes them think that they were fat.xD

Well' date=' I'm 5 foot 7 and 154 pounds. Honestly, I don't look heavy at all.

[spoiler=This was taken a year ago, but I look exactly the same, except longer hair and no football uniforms or shoulder pads and leg pads.']

EDIT- Forgot to say, 'oh that's not fat at all'

I'm not sure if your using sarcasm or not.

All the examples you listed are outliers.

The BMI is standardized and a quick reference for weight control, and while not 100% reliable, it's the most used method for this type of control.

It's not that it is the "1 and 0 of weight", but it is the fastest way of having an estimate. That said, remember you rarely have simply the BMI value, you have the patient, and your own brain to figure out whether the BMI score makes sense or not - most of the times, it does, so there is no reason not to keep using it.

All that said, 13 is the lowest possible score that can sustain life. Something is wrong with that value regardless of circumstance. If you see here, a BMI of 13 is below the 5th percentile whatever the age.

Three things...

1)

But seriously' date=' it's a problem.

[/quote']

In what way? :S

Health problems. Fat people are more likely to have a heart attack. Of course, I'd be really bias if I neglected to mention that skinny people with bad diets are likely to have similar problems themselves.

2) Funny story I heard in one of The Archfiend's videos. There's a 600 pound woman who wants to hit 1,000 pounds. To reach this goal, she consumes 12,000 calories a day.

3) I'm hungry. So...

I'm going to eat this whole pizza with mini hotdog crust...

Then wash it down with these krispy creme burgers.

I agree that it's a quick reference, if you have a BMI of 15 there's a problem and if you have a 30 theres a problem too. But still, it makes me a bit sad that it's taken so seriously for example in courses for people who want to become nurses.=/ I have some friends who are studying to become that and all they do about health issues is talking about that BMI thing.-.-

I don't have a problem if people mention it, but some take it as the ultimate indication while forgetting that the I in BMI stands for index.=/

A lot of things kill us, why target fat people in specific? They can be as fat as they want. What if someone really wanted to be fat, and was sad if they weren't? People have strange fetishes you know, just google some weird things on Youtube and see what you get. Depicting one's way of life as bad because it's clearly visible is just biased and an animalistic quality in its purest form. Fatties can eat as much as they want and threaten people with their girth, while I can in turn use them as an emotional punching bag and use their obesity as a monument to their laziness in any argument we find ourselves in. Really, it's just a win-win. Live your own life and stop forcing your ideals upon others.

For the record, my breakfast this morning consisted of four donuts. I'm six feet, 150 lbs, and I did not round those, both are more or less exact.

Anyway, I have no problem with fat people up to a point. I'd rather hang around fat people than smokers.

I also think everyone needs to stop blaming food companies for "making" people fat. Companies have no power over peoples' actions.

Throwing a random thought into the internets, I learn new ideas. Good point.

Been fat during my elementary years. After a month of losing weight to where I'm now under the size that's healthy for my age, I've figured that being skinny is so much easier than being overweight. After realizing this fact, I've come to love overweight people since I know their pain, and I try to help them lose the weight. It's worked before, which I'm proud of.

But yes, America is fat. What to do.

In America, at least, it's easier to be fat (imho) because it's trendy; EVERYONE'S DOING IT. (don't take offense, please) I mean, you don't see commercials saying "HOW TO GAIN WEIGHT! TAKE THESE PILLS!" etc etc.

Given the choice, I'd sooner be with a fat woman then a boney one. I have a dating rule of sorts; "Fat before Flat".
