GBT's Guide of Card Effects

Alright, now that I've quit Card Making, I've decided to help members that don't know how to make cards, or can't think of effects easily. This thread will be updated when I think of information for it.

1 Star - 1 Star monsters shouldn't have overpowered effects. Not all 1 Star monsters have weak effects either. Think about Treeborn Frog, he is a 1 Star monster and he's limited to 1 because of how strong his effect is. Here is an example of a creative effect for a 1 Star monster.

Effect - When this card is destroyed as a result of battle, select 1 monster from your hand and place it face-down in your Spell and Trap Card Zone. When you have 5 cards in your Spell and Trap Card Zone, remove this card in your Graveyard from play and Special Summon 1 monster from your Spell and Trap Card Zone.

2 Star - 2 Star monsters aren't cards that should be overpowered either, yet Destiny Hero - Disk Commander is a 2 Star monster and he is limited because of his effect. Yata Garasu is banned because of his effect. Here is an example of a 2 Star monster's effect.

Effect - You can equip this card in your hand to a face-up monster on your opponent's side of the field. Decrease the ATK of the monster equipped with this card by 1000 points. While equipped to a monster by this card's effect, this card is considered to be an Equip Spell Card.

3 Star - 3 Star monsters are weak, and they have effects that are strong , like Marshmallon. That's why he is limited.

Effect - Tribute this face-up card. Draw 2 cards from your Deck.

4 Star - 4 Star monsters are the most common monsters in Duel Monsters. Cards like Hydrogeddon, Elemental Hero Stratos, and Elemental Hero Wildheart are 4 Star monsters, and they have strong effects.

Effect - When this card is Normal Summoned, send the top 5 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard. For each Monster Card sent to the Graveyard with this card's effect, inflict 1000 points of damage to your opponent's Life Points.

I will update this guide, although opinions would be appreciated. When designing cards, try not to have common effects, step out of the box.

Do you mind if I add something?

I'll add :

Nowadays, you see super LONG effects. A great card doesn't have to have a long effect. A great card needs to be unique, something that nobody has ever thought about. With a great and unique card, you can count on geting higher ratings, and you can be satisfied about your entry in a competition. So don't think a great card has to have a long effect. Even though sometimes it may look cooler with smaller words and stuff, but mostly, the cards with long effects are UNIQUE. So yeah, make your effects UNIQUE.

Great guide GBT! :D
