[spoiler=Episode 6]

By the end of the class period, word had somehow got out about Taikerou and Kira’s. The class bell rings, signaling the end of class. Everyone rushes out their classrooms and head towards the practice arena, all except for Skyler who sit stationary at his desk, taking the last bit of notes. He lets out a deep sigh before he closes his notebook and stands up. The Duel spirit of “Bup” appears and lands on Skyler’s should. “Twweee”

“Looks like I don’t really have a choice. They won’t leave me alone either way, might as well have a little fun while in the process. And as for this duel,” Skyler smiles lightly, “it’s going to be pretty one-sided if you ask me.” He turns and makes his way to the arena. By the time he gets there, Tai and Kira were already set up in their corners. Although is mandatory for all students to use the official Dual Academy Duel Disk, Tai likes to use a special Duel Disk that he made from an old family airlume. It resembles a staff with a bulky design/device on both ends while it is not activate. Tai places the middle of the shaft of the staff on his special Duel Disk holder and suddenly the staff comes to life. It glows slightly as his staff splits in half and moves inward, joining the top and bottom devices together. The one new device slides down the collapsible shaft to rest on Taikerou’s forearm. Finally, a field zone lunges out of the device, forming a perfectly simplistic looking Duel Disk. Kira smiles and activates his standard Academy Dual Disk.

“Duel!” They both shout across the room.

Taikerou proceeds to draw a card from his Deck. “I’ll go first. I play the Field Spell ‘Magical Citadel of Endymion’. Each time a Spell Card is activated, I can place 1 Spell Counter on this card.” A slot opens up on Tai’s duel disk and he slips the card inside. As soon as it closed, a large caste emerged out of the ground just behind Tai. “I then play a monster in face-down Defense Position and end my turn.”

Kira draws a card and looks over the cards in his hand. “I activate the Spell Card ‘One for One’, by sending a monster from my hand to the Graveyard, I can Special Summon 1 Level 1 monster from my Deck. I choose my ‘Ultimate Insect LV 1’.” Kira sends a card from his hand to the Graveyard just as a single card pops out form his Deck. He sets it on his Duel Disk and Summons a maggot-looking monster. “I then play my ‘Ani-Aircraft Flower’ in attack position. Also I activate the Spell Card ‘Worm Bait’.” Right after Kira Summons the Plant-Type monster, the hologram of the card appears behind it. The Spell Card shines, making to small worms appear next to his “Ultimate Insect LV1”. “I Summon to ‘Worm Tokens’ to thee field thanks to my Spell Card. Then I activate the special ability of my ‘Ani-Aircraft Flower’: I can Tribute Insect monsters I control to inflict 800 points to your Life Points. Now go!” The two tokens glow and convert themselves into energy. They then funnel themselves into the barrel of the guns inside the flower of the Plant-Type monster. The monster shoots passes Tai’s facedown monster and hits him directly, twice, inflicting 800 points of damage each time. Taikerou’s Life Points drop to 2400. “I then place a card facedown and end my turn.”

As soon as Kira played his “Worm Bait” and his “One for One”, two magical symbols appear on the castle just behind Taikerou. He draws a card. “My move, and I’ll get thing rolling with my ‘Sonic Bird’.” Taikerou Summons a bald eagle with a jet pack on it’s back. It flaps its wing hard and rises into the air followed by blasting into the air insanely fast. “When it’s Summoned to the field, I getta get a Ritual Spell Card from my Deck.” A single card pops out of his Deck and he adds it to his hand. “Then I’ll activate it. ‘Commencement Dance’! I flip up my facedown monster, ‘Djinn Prognosticator of Rituals’. I Tribute my ‘Sonic Bird’ and ‘Djinn’ in order to Summon ‘Dancing Soldier’.” The two monsters start to dance then glow bright. They disappear and merge their energies in order to form a slender woman with blades on her arms and an ATK of 1900. “Then I’ll play ‘Ritual Weapon, making my ‘Dancing Soldiers’ ATK 3400. Attack his ‘Anti-Aircraft Flower’.” The female monster twists and turns to strike at Kira’s monster.

“I activate ‘Waboku’. Reducing all the damage I would receive to zero and protecting my monster from destruction.” Suddenly a group of men in turquoise robes appear in front of “Anti-Aircraft Flower” and block the incoming attack.

Taikerou keeps the indifferent look on his face that he always wears. “I guess I’ll just end my turn then…” When Taikerou played his two Spell Cards, two more magical symbols appeared on “Magical Citadel of Endymion”.

Kira narrows his eyes. {He must be planning something with that Field Spell…but what?}

Skyler leans forward in his seat, slightly confused. “What’s going on? Kira is acting like he’s never seen Tai Duel before.”

The students around Skyler laugh slightly as one of them says, “You’re new here, so you don’t know. Taikerou almost never Duels in the open, let alone in front of people. All we really know is that he likes to use Ritual Monsters. He uses the funds that his family sends him to pay off his teachers just to have private exam Duels. This is a once in a life time thing for anyone!”

Skyler smiles and leans back in his chair, bringing his arms around and over his head. “Maybe for you, but for me, it’s a daily thing.” Every student around him looks at him with an expression of disbelief and shook. “Oh yeah. Almost every night me and him get together and Duel.”

“And?” One of the random students screams out at Skyler in anticipation. “Did you beat him?”

“Nope…we dueled a total of 73 times yet every single time we did, it was a draw.”

Kira draws a card from his Deck. “My turn. I activate the effect of ‘Ultimate Insect LV 1’, sacrificing it to Summon ‘Ultimate Insect LV3’.” The larvae-like insect starts to jerks and gyrate its body until finally it bursts open to reveal an even larger insect. “Then I play the Continuous ‘Negate Typhoon’. With this card, every time I Tribute a monster for another one, I get to destroy 1 face-up Spell Card on the field. And I choose you your Equip Card.” The Spell Card shines and Taikerou’s card explodes. Just as this happens, a magical symbol appears on “Magical Citadel of Endymion”. I don’t know what you’re planning on using that Field Card for but it won’t matter for long, cause I activate ‘Level Up!’.” Again Kira’s a larger insect emerges from the body of “Ultimate Insect LV3” and as soon as it does, “Negate Typhoon” starts to glow. “‘Level Up’ lets me Tribute my Level 3 insect to Summon my ‘Ultimate Insect LV5’. Also, because of my Spell Card, you are about to loose your Field Spell.” “Negate Typhoon” glows blight. Taikerou couldn’t help but smirk as the castle behind explode. “So much for your plan.”

“Not really.” The smoke from the explosion clears to reveal that the castle is still standing, only with one of its magic symbol missing.

Kira looks at Taikerou in amazement. “Okay, you want to explain why that piece of crap is still on the field?”

Taikerou chuckles a little. “One of the effects of my Citadel: when its gonna be destroyed, I can remove a Spell Counter from it instead. Oh and it also gets a Counter for your ‘Level Up’.” Another symbol appears on the castle.

Kira glares at Tai’s Field Spell Card. “Fine, keep your Citadel. No skin of my back cause your Equip Spell Card is out of the way now, bringing the ATK of your ‘Dancing Soldier’ by down to 1900 plus the extra 500 points thanks to my monsters effect, making its final ATK 1400 to my ‘Ultimate Insects’ 2300. Now go and destroy his monster.” The insect flies forward and stabs Tai’s monsters with its massive pinchers, reducing his Life Points to 1500. “Nothing else I can do but switch my ‘Anti-Aircraft Flower’ into Defense Position then I end my turn.”

Taikerou slowly shakes his head from side to side. “Kira, Kira, Kira…after a year in school you still make the same mistakes over and over again.”

“Don’t get all condescending on me. You’re just trying to make me loose my cool, well it won’t work! You think you’re so cool?”

Taikerou lets out a slow sigh as he draws a card. “I’m not trying to be condescending. I’m trying to help you. You need cards that you feel comfortable with and that you can communicate with. I’ll show you what I mean. I activate the Ritual Spell Card ‘Advanced Ritual Art’. With this card, I can send Normal Monsters from my Deck to the Graveyard to Ritual Summon a monster with a Level equal to the combined Levels of the monsters removed. So I send a Level 7 monster from my Deck,” A card pops out of his Deck. Tai proceeds to take the card and slip it into his Graveyard. A symbol appears in the middle of the field then the astral image of the monster that he just sent to the Graveyard. Everyone’s heart skips a beat as the monster starts to come into focus: A tall, blond man in a purple gown with a hood and a long staff. Kira looks stunned, as does everyone in the room, except from Skyler. “I have to say, I’m enjoying dueling in the open a lot more than I thought I would. I need to do this more often.”

Kira points to the monster in the middle of the field. “Is…is that…?”

“Yes, this is the legendary monster the ‘Dark Magician’. Very rare, and very hard to find, but I got it. And I must say he comes in handy a lot. Now…” Suddenly, Taikerou’s “Dark Magician’ bursts into flames. “Please know, my monster, your sacrifice will not be in vain. Now come forth! Legendary Flame Lord!” His monster morphs and changes into another man with a glowing staff, surrounded by flames. Another magical symbol appears on the castle behind Tai. The monster stands erect with an ATK of 2400. Tiakerou starts holds out his fingers and starts to count them, one by one, muttering to himself under his breath. Kira looks at him, a little confused.

“What are you doing? This is pointless, my monsters effect will reduce your monsters ATK to 1900, making it slim pickings from my insect. And even if you do get past him, I still have my ‘Flower’ to defend.” Taikerou continues to mutter under his breath and count his fingers. A large “X” appears on Kira’s forehead. He starts waving his arms up and doing in chibi form, shouting, “Stop ignoring me! I’m talking Dammit!”

Taikerou snaps back to attention. “Wha? Oh, right, sorry. I was just counting the number of Spell Counters there were on ‘Magical Citadel of Endymion’. Yeah, I remember, it was 6. So I activate the effect of my ‘Flame Lord’s’ effect. By removing 3 Spell Counters from it, it destroys all other monsters on the field. And thanks to the effect of my ‘Citadel’, I can remove Spell Counters from it instead of my monster.” Three of the magic symbols disappear from the castle. As some as they do, “Legendary Flame Lord” starts to glow bright red. He raises his staff and releases a fire storm, destroying Kira’s “Ultimate Insect LV5” and “Anti-Aircraft Flower”. “But I’m not through yet. I play ‘Fulfillment of The Contract’. By paying 800 Life Points, I can Summon ‘Dancing Soldier’ back to the field.” A square on the Duel field glows and a female monster with blade on her arms appears. “First, I attack directly with ‘Flame Lord’.” The monster holds his staff out a launches yet another barrage a flames at Kira, reducing his Life Points to 1900. “Now go my ‘Dancing Soldier’! Blade Plie!” The monster twists and turns towards her target, attacking Kira directly and inflicting 1900 point of damage. The holograms disappear. Everyone in the room remains silent, except for Skyler, who by this point was clapping.

“Whoa! Yeah, good Duel.” He walks down to the two duelists and congratulates them both. By the time they all maid their way back to the Ra Yellow dorm, they are all laughing about the whole thing. Taikerou lies down in Calvin’s bed while Kira backwards on a chair in-between the two beds.

Kira laughs, “Come on, man, lets see it one more time!”

Taikerou smirks and lets out a tiny sigh as he removes a card from his Deck, revealing his “Dark Magician”. “My favorite card. What about you guys?”

Kira suddenly pops out of his chair and swiftly skips over to his pack on the other side of the room. Tai and Skyler exchange a look at each other at his sudden peppy demeanor. He reaches into his pack and pulls out a metal case. He walks back over to his chair and sits the right way in it, opening the case. “If my family knew that I kept this card, they would be really sore.” He reveals monster card with a red and white Machine-Type monster on it. But the card itself was different from any other card either Skyler or Taikerou had ever seen. It wasn’t vanilla, brown, purple, or even blue…the card trim was snow white. Taikerou stood up in his seat and pointed down at the card.

“Is that what I think it is!?!?!?”

Skyler looks slightly confused. “What is it? It doesn’t look like a normal monster card or any other card I’ve seen before.”

Taikerou turns to Skyler. “Gale-tan…that card is probably worth the net worth of more than my family makes in a given year, and we own 10 private islands!”

“So what is it?”

Kira stares down at the card with a look of wonder and cheer. “It’s a Synchronization monster…”

Skyler looks even more confused. “A Synch-wah?”

Taikerou sits back on the bed. “A Synchronization monster. Synchro for short. It’s a new type of card that has only just been theorized by Maximilian Pegasus. They work by using another special kind of monster, a Tuner monster. You need to tribute 1 tuner and 1 or more non-tuner monsters whose total Levels equal the Synchro monsters Level in order to summon it.”

“Seems like a lot of hard work for just a powerful monster.”

“You don’t get it. Synchro monsters are incredibly powerful and have abilities that are unknown to all but a few.”

Kira smiles happily to himself and places the card back into the metal box. “That’s right. I won a private meeting with Pegasus. He told me that I had some kind of important destiny that was yet to be fulfilled and gave me this card. Quite frankly…I love it so much! It reminds me of this awesome show that I used to watch growing up, ‘Mega Battle Station’!”

Taikerou leans back with the same indifferent expression. “So Kira’s a Sci-Fi junkie, who’da thunk? But we’ll get back to that later, right now, we need to work on that Deck of yours for the tournament.”

“What? My Deck?”

Skyler smiles and stands up along with Tai. “That’s right; we’re going to make you a Deck that you can be proud off.” Thumbs up. “You can count on us!”
