It's pretty good. 2 problems though' date=' they're lacking good colours and a better background. But the dragon is nice, could use more detail.

wait, they're?

there is only 1 piece here..... :/

the dragon is the only thing there xD

and more detail? how so?

Some of it's really detailed' date=' but, like, at the horn, not as detailed as the other parts. I think that's what he meant.

It's really good. Nice work.

ah ok, thanks :D

i wanted the focal to be on his face lol

and this was my first drawing on my new tablet so i was just messing around xD

TBH' date=' I know it is, but it's hard to believe it's just your first. It's really, really good.

[/quote']

well, i did a couple of sketches, but they were crap lol.

Everything has to be detailed precisely even if your focal is the head. 'They're' meaning background AND focal.

Don't take things personally.

different styles go for different methods of doing the actual painting' date=' i wasnt going for photorealism so i dont think every bit has to be detailed....xD

im not taking it personally, im just making sure i understand the critique-ing i get.

That's an amazing dragon.

For some reason, the lightning bothers me.

thanks, im sry to hear about the lightning xD

any particular reason?

No its true stop being a noob.

Stop being difficult. Detailing itself probably isn't a style, but the level of detail used is an important aspect of any style. Just a little bit or an extreme amount of detail; it doesn't really matter as much as making sure that the level of detail is consistant throughout the piece, which Nick accomplished fairly well. Please don't insult his ability as an artist by spouting nonsense.

Any way, I'd have to say that you could have done more outside of the dragon itself. I understand that it was practice and I understand that you really only wanted to focus on the head, but there are elements that are missing from the scene. For example, the dragon's neck transitions into the bottom of the picture by fading into a sea of yellow-green. But what does that tell the viewer? Is the dragon emerging from a glowing pool of radioactive liquid? Or maybe just all the light happens to be yellow-green? What is the dragon hiding underneath the yellow-green he fades into? Is his body covered in scales? Does he have a terrible rash he doesnt? want us to see? Or maybe he doesn't have a body because the artist got bored and started on some other project?

We as viewers will never know, because you really haven't given us any indication. While it is okay to not give the viewers a clear idea of what lies beyond, at the very least you should at least point them in a direction.

When you know what your talking about then come back.

This is not graphic design. It's not a signiture, it's not a banner, nor anything else that would traditionally be associated with graphic design. This is a digital painting. The methodology that is used for making a signiture and making a digital painting are completely different; don't pretend that they're interchangable.

Yes, I am aware that you draw. If anything, that should make you more aware of the fact that detailing is stylistic. The fact that you can draw yet still won't acknowledge this confounds me. If you think high levels of detail are imperative for every style, then you really need to take another look at the world around you.

Please note that, whatever response you decide to post, I will not reply to it again. This is Nick's thread, and out of respect for him I am done playing games with you.

thank you.

and yea, tbh, i dont even know what the background is, except for the lightning. the spikey things, i guess could be the body, ill leave that up to the viewer, but my next drawing will focus on all of it, so you shoudnt have to worry about that. xD
