Ah, the old color transparency effect? Haven't used that technique in ages.

 

I'm not saying it's bad, but the way you used it here it doesn't look too great. It isn't the way you did it, but it's because that's all you did for the bg.

 

I would suggest adding a hefty amount of lighting effects to it (gradient flare/lens flare), a few c4ds, fade-erasing the edges of the render a bit (erase with the fuzzy brush), and change the mode of the render, but only after duplicating and putting it over the original render. Be sure to lower the opacity until it looks good.

 

I can brake it down into steps for you if you want me to and elaborate a bit more if you don't understand. ;)
