Lulz, so we were doing this trial simulation today and my role is President Polk (of the USA).

 

 

The defense didn't think they'd be calling witnesses yet, so they told me to stall for time.

"They were on an expedition of course."

 

"But why so heavily armed? Were you worried about Indians or something?"

"Yes, bears. When we sent the Lewis and Clark expedition out they encountered alarming numbers of grizzly bears. Our current weaponry took about 9-10 shots to kill a single grizzly bear. Due to said endurance, coupled with their alarming speed, it was unreasonable to expect that one man with light armaments could take one down in time. Thus we increased the number and quality of our armed men."

"Decreasing the number of bear maulings is important, you know."
