Virus - Z

 

The World is in Chaos,

 

A Virus turned people into zombies,

 

You're one of them,

 

Fight for you live!

 

 

...

 

 

... It is the first year after all the chaos began, my name is Kan, and this is my story. I used to be just an ordinary man, with a good wife, we were happy... it was all good news until the damn virus showed up. I'm not really sure, but I guess it was meant to be a biological weapon or something. I no longer can be considered a human. My wife died because of the virus. It is really weird, some turn into animals, some simple die and some turn just like me, a 'thinking zombie'.

As expected, all survivors hate every single of us, and I will never be able to blame them. I would hate myself too if I still have my human appearance. The others always try to cheer me up, saying to look at the bright side. They aren't wrong though. I'm stronger now, I think I'm biologically immortal, and I can see very well in the dark. If I had wings and skin I would say I'm more like a vampire... I live in a community in New York, 60% of the population died and the rest are either animals or 'thinking zombies'. There is no time to feel bad about myself right now, what happened, happened. I must live now. And in times like this, some even created new religions, fools. I don't know if god is real, but if he does exist, he is a sadist motherf*cker.

 

 

 

Day 1:

 

I wake up in a dirt bed, with some dead things under it, some still alive, but you get used to the screams and such. There is 4 things I can really trust now, my friends, Samantha, Elios, Ulgo, and my machine steel sword.

 

- Come on, lazy boy, it is time to hunt! - Samantha shouted from outside

 

- Yeah, Kan, we want to see brig us some meat! - Ulgo said

 

- Fine, fine, I'm coming.

 

'Hunt time' mean nothing more than hunt for any kind of food, from the simplest thing such as bugs, to human flesh, but only in the extreme cases. I wasn't the best hunter, but the only left, the others were either killed or captured by the survivors for research. I and Samantha went into the woods; the animals said they spot some cows coming this way. We hit the jackpot. It could have been easier to take down the cows if it wasn't for the humans after them. We fight each other for the meat instead of sharing it. Don't be surprised; things like this happen a lot. Anyway, we ended up killing 5 of the 7 humans and get all the food for ourselves, we took the others 2 to our home; we weren't going to eat them, just heal.

 

As we headed back to our home, we could hear some happy sounds not far away, they were from the zombies of our home, they knew we were coming back with food, that would be a good night for us, Zombies.

Day 2:

 

After the hunt of yesterday, we set up a party, Samantha got worried because we ate almost all the food we got in the party. But I told her not to worry, cows are everywhere. You might be thinking, why we just don't create our own cows instead of hunt, right? Well, there are several things stopping it, the first are the animals, if they see any kind of meat, they go kill it, or get killed.

I was cleaning up my room when Ulgo came in:

 

- Hey, buddy, you must hear this!

 

- What is it?

 

- You know the humans we saved yesterday? Well, one of them freaked out and started running like hell.

 

- And the other?

 

- He was smarter, he apologize for the fight and such, and we helped him to get to his village. But is not all.

 

- There is more?

 

- Yes... the one who freaked out is the daughter of the village's leader, and he is a very powerful person, if the girl is dead, we are in serious problem.

 

- Don't worry, we are not in problem.

 

- How can you be so sure?

 

- Because the girl you mentioned is hidden in my closet.

 

I opened my closet and there she was. A blond young girl with blue eyes, using a soldier armor as her outfit.

 

- Mind explaining what is she doing here, Kan?

 

- I bet she can explain better than I.

 

The girl looked at us with fear, of course, we are zombies after all, and they think all of us are animals. We gave her some space so she could start to talk. She said she was going to kill me, but she then realized that wouldn't work because I'm 'immortal', then she tried to find my best weapon, my sword, to either break it or just to run away with it.

 

- Ok, first of all, girl, we aren't exactly immortals as you said, I can be killed, but not as easy as your people can. - Kan said - And second of all, shouldn't you be running like hell from the animals?

 

- Well, those I manage to take down, but you... I thought them virus made you stronger than the others.

 

- He didn't say that is not truth. - Ulgo grumpled

 

I was about to say something when Samantha run into my room. She said the leader of the village that the girl belonged arrived here, and he wants her daughter back. Me, Samantha and Ulgo went down stair to give the girl to his daddy, it was all good news until she pointed a gun at me.

 

- Ok, now that I'm 'safe', zombie, I will save the world of your kind!

 

I don't know how, but I managed to get the bullet with my hand, everybody start to draw their weapons, it was up to me to start a war or to end this now. That girl was lucky I didn't have my sword at the time.

 

- Wow, I've never felt so awesome... I will forget you did this girl, for the sake of everyone. Mister, forgive to make you to travel this far to find your daugter.

 

- Oh well, there is no need to apologize, mister...?

 

- Kan. My name is Kan, is there anything we can do for you while you are here?

 

- We could use some food of course, mister Kan, our last hunt was a failure, so my people are getting in some problems.

 

- It will be done, come with me, we will find some meat for your people. Samantha, could use the animals to located the nearby meat?

 

- They would only sense the humans, Kan, they are useless now. - Samantha answered - I think we'll have to hunt in the old way.

 

- We spotted some cows when we were heading to this location, Kan, they might be there yet. - The human leader said

 

I, Ulgo and the humans went where the cows where, luckily we could get the animals off them. Giving the cows to the humans was more than just kindness, was a proof we could be as 'civilized' as the humans. I hope their brains can process this information. This is the end of day 2.
