Infliction(Effect attacks)

Sinorsaint

Question

When Inflicting damage to an opponent, do i attack his life points or his monster?
How does it work?
I'd appreciate examples from Mirage tube or Junk Barrage.

Mirage tube
This card cannot be activated from your hand. Activate only when a face-up monster you control is selected as an attack target. Inflict 1000 damage to your opponent.

Junk Barrage
When the equipped monster destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard, inflict damage to your opponent equal to half the destroyed monster's ATK.

Thanks in advance. :)

You are inflicting damage to your opponent. Your opponent loses 1000 Life Points on the first effect, with the second, depending on the monster's ATK, half of the damage goes to the opponent's Life Points (meaning the opponent loses Life Points equal to half the ATK of the destroyed monster). It's just a better way to word ''damage to your opponent's Life Points''.

They are both considered Effect Damage. Not Battle Damage. There are only a few cards that supposedly inflict Effect Damage, but explicitly state that it is treated as Battle Damage instead. They are usually in brackets, after the effect.
