She heard stuff like ‘X plus five minus seven’ and all that boring stuff. If only there was some way to brighten up her life. So far, all it’s been is ‘eat’, ‘study’, and ‘sleep’. If only there was a way to brighten up her life. Due to her lifestyle, she didn’t really attract any attention whatsoever. She was about seventeen, had light skin, black hair, clear blue eyes and wore a white buttoned shirt and black trousers. She didn’t care for fashion. All she cared about was the three basic things, ‘eat’, ‘study’, and ‘sleep’, although she was already bored of the routines. She couldn’t just sit down and listen forever. But she did. When school was over, she put her stuff into her bag and headed home. She got home, went inside through the back door, went upstairs up to her room, and lay on her bed. And then she realized there was something hard against her back. She got up and checked. It was a flute, a fine, blue flute about four inches. Did her mom really waste money on this? This was her birthday present? Yes, it was her birthday, but nobody ever cared. Not even her mother. Not even her. She wondered and played around with it, before deciding to play it. She put the end to her mouth, covered a few holes with her fingers, and blew. It was just a normal ‘Fa’ sound, nothing out of the ordinary. But she was transfixed by it for some reason, but that was probably only because she’s never had a present before. And then for some reason, she decided to visit a lake. A random thought, nothing more, but decided to follow it anyway. She headed outside, while unknowingly still holding the flute, and headed towards Lake Lore. Why they named it that, she didn’t care. She continued on through the pavement of the street, took a few turns, saw a few trees, and there was the lake. It was big and blue, but one could still see the borders of the lake. It was only a while later did she realize then that the flute was still in her hand. She played it for no reason whatsoever, simply going with the rhythm of Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol-La-Si-Do. And then the lake began shaking, as if something was happening. And then a shadow emerged far out in the lake, but mist had covered it. The shadow had an outline similar to photos of the Loch Ness monster, but there were three. Three monsters, three Nessie’s? She regretted that she didn’t have a camera. She played the flute again, this time in Do-Si-La-Sol-Fa-Mi-Re-Do, and then the mist cleared and the monsters went back into the lake. She stood there, dumbfounded. She played Do and a very thin mist appeared. She played it again, and the thin mist disappeared. She then played Mi and Fa and two monsters emerged out of the lake, and there was no mist to cover them. The monsters looked like the neck and head of a Plesiosaurus, only with scales, and they were as green as the leaves on a tree. They also had sharp fangs, she was able to observe. They also had empty eye-sockets, but with a purple light in them for eyes, had fins near the mouth, a yellow belly, and the back was rather sharp. For some reason she wasn’t afraid, and then decided to play a song on the flute, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, as it was the only tune she knew, and only memorized it after every everyday of being shown it. The monsters began drawing near towards Athena, but she still stayed there playing the tune. They slowly moved through the water, but then something else appeared. There was a flash of light, and then there was a man. The man was about twenty. He wore a grey ragged slightly-ripped armored jacket, with a leather black jumpsuit inside and had a black sword that ended in a cross to his back, and had two red gauntlets. He also had dark white hair, if that was possible, and his eyes were grayish onyx. His appearance was so sudden, that Athena stopped her playing, and then the monsters suddenly snapped out of the slow moving. They roared, or rather, barked at the man, as if it recognized the man. ”That was rather odd, all that appearing and disappearing.” He said. He looked around and then spotted Athena. ”You? Are you a magician, girl? If so, why do you insist on continuing to summon and return that Chaos Beast?” She was confused, but decided to reply. “I have a name, Athena. And I am no magician. This ‘Chaos Beast’, as you call it, was summoned by this flute. And no, you can’t have it.” The man just blinked. ”I am Protheus, servant of the ultimate being of darkness, and you, are in my way. If that flute does what you say it does, then I, Envoy of the Darkness, command you to give it to me. And I won’t take no for an answer.” “No.” ”Fine, then so be it.” The Protheus person unsheathed his sword, and then Athena saw that the hilt of the sword was mummified for some reason. And for her own reasons, Athena just played the flute again, while covering every hole. A weird struggling sound came out of the flute, but the monsters responded immediately, roared at the man again, and fired sharp icicles at Protheus. He jumped out of the way, and then he and Athena saw as the icicles hit the ground….but continued to fly further. It was that sharp. ”It was that sharp?” Protheus asked, before running at Athena. She was about to uselessly defend herself when the monsters made water of the lake, pull Protheus into the lake. He struggled, but more water began grabbing onto him, and he was pulled into Lake Lore. No bubble came from where he went in, but soon he emerged and surprised a monster before cutting off its neck cleanly. The monster fell into the ocean, but then from the severed part came another head, and Protheus seemed annoyed. Athena then played ‘Sol’ and a third monster appeared out of the lake, before charging at Protheus. The combined might of the three heads was too much for the man, and then he tried retreating to shore. The monsters let him swim back to shore, and then he got up to shore, and looked at Athena. ”I will keep in mind that flute, Athena. But you had better learn some new tunes before I reappear. The Lake Hydra shall be in my control.” He said, before another flash of light appeared, and then he was gone. Athena looked at the three monsters. “A Hydra?” She asked herself. “So those three monsters…..are just one with three heads?” The three heads of the monster nodded in approval, and then waited there. She herself didn’t know what to command them. What was she supposed to command them? The only commands she knew were ‘Summon’, ‘Attack’, ‘Protect Me’, and ‘Mist’. She needed someone to learn from. She made the Hydras go back into the depths, and then she headed back home, and decided to use her mom’s internet. When she got home, she went into her mother’s room, and then turned on the computer. She waited, before opening Internet Explorer, opened Google, and began searching for what she was searching for, the origin of the flute. Her mother wasn’t in the house, apparently, but she had forgotten to log out of Gmail. And so Athena went onto her mom’s account and then saw the most recent email, a successful transaction from EBay. She checked the name of the seller, and then the location. That location wasn’t very far from her town, but she would still need a car. She took her mom’s car key, which was for some reason left there, and went to the garage. She had never realized how much her mother thought she was just going to sleep every day. She unlocked the car and went in. She wasn’t really supposed to be driving a car, but after what just happened, it was probably for the best. And that man may track her down anytime soon, and the way his sword effortlessly and cleanly sliced off the Hydra’s neck gave her an idea of how dangerous he could be. She turned on the car, and then began learning how to drive a car. She first pushed on a pedal with her foot, and the car went forward, crashing into the back of the garage. “Ouch.” She said. She then carefully pushed on the other pedal with her other foot, and then the car went back, slowly. And then she remembered something right before the car crashed the other side. She went out the car, and opened the garage door, before going back in, and reversing forward. She turned the wheel right, so as for the car to go right, and then pressed on the forward pedal, only to go left. She then reversed with the wheel still right, and was right again. She then turned the wheel left and went forward, and finally she turned to the right direction. She drove forward, and continued driving onto the road, unaware of the speed limit. It was about half an hour when she got to her destination. She rechecked the address, which she had written on paper, and then drove towards the house. She got out of the car, forgetting to turn it off, and rang the bell on the door. She heard a lock, and then the door opened, but only by a few inches, as there was a chain attached. A pale person peeped outside. “W-who are you?” He asked in a scared voice. “Um…well, do you know anything about this flute?” Athena replied. She checked her pocket and then brought out the flute which she showed to the man. “T-that? Please, I don’t want any more to do with it! I don’t want it! Go away!” The pale man was very frightened. “OK..? But do you know where you got this from?” “MAURITS! JAPAN-CORNELIS-CITY-SOMEWHERE!” “Umm…..OK?” And the door slammed shut. She went back to her car, and drove away. After a while, while driving, Protheus stood in her way. She recognized him by sight. She had no idea how to brake, and so turned the wheel to the left, but still ended up crashing into him, and thus shut her eyes. When the car stopped, she opened them and went out of the car to check. But just then, he crawled out from under the car, completely unscathed. ”Were you really trying to get rid of me like that?” He asked menacingly, as he got up and unsheathed his sword.
