"May you live in interesting times." - A Discworld Set

Hi there,

Since nobody reads introductions, I'll just head straight to the action :P First card of the new set I'm currently working on, let me hear your opinion:

As long as this card remains face-up on the field, neither player can activate Spell Cards and the effects of all Continous Spell Cards on the field are negated. If this card is selected as an attack target, you can pay 1000 Life Points to remove it from play and end the current Battle Phase. During your next Standby Phase, return it to the field in face-up Defense Position.

This card is unaffected by the effect of "Discworld - DEATH". Cards in your Graveyard cannot be targeted as long as this card remains on the field or in your Graveyard. If this card is in your Graveyard, this card can attack in your End Phase only as if it were on the field in face-up Attack Position. You can pay half of your Life Points and return this card from your Graveyard to your hand to destroy all face-up cards your opponent controls.

If this card battles a Fiend-Type or Beast-Type monster, it gains 1000 ATK during Damage Step only. Each time your opponent draws a card, they must call the name of a card in their Deck. You can ask them to show the drawn card. If you do, and the card shown has not the name they called, it is discarded and 1 card with the name called is sent from their Deck to the Graveyard. If the card shown has the name they called, this card is destroyed and you take 1000 damage.

This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned from your hand if there are no OR more than a total of 20 monsters in both players Graveyards. This card cannot be destroyed by battle (damage calculation is not applied) or card effects. During either players End Phase, place 1 Time's Up Counter on all face-up monsters on the field (max. 5). During either players Standby Phase, if there are 5 Time's Up Counters on a card, destroy it. Cards destroyed by this cards effect cannot be Special Summoned or returned to either players hand or Deck.

During your Standby Phase, place the top card of your opponents Deck on your Deck. Your Deck is then shuffled. If you draw a card that is not yours and if this card is face-up on the field, place that card in your hand and draw 2 more cards. If at least 1 condition is not fulfilled, return that card to your opponents Deck. That Deck is then shuffled.

During your Standby Phase, if you control a Field Spell Card, remove 1 card your opponent controls from play (if that card was set face-down, it stays face-down). If this card is face-up on the field during your 2nd Standby Phase after the targeted card was removed from play, that card is returned to the field in it's original position and cannot be targeted by this cards effect this turn.

The cards will be inconsistent and probably won't have a common theme. Also, this thread will only be updated once in a while, not on a daily basis, because I can't afford this at the moment. If anybody happens to have some good Discworld pictures, I'd be glad if you would share them with me :)

Random Discworld Quote of the Moment:

He could think in italics! Such people need watching. Preferably from a safe distance. (Men at Arms)
The pen is mightier than the sword... if the sword is very short, and the pen is very sharp. (The Light Fantastic)
"And what would humans be without love?" RARE, said Death. (Sourcery)
History always has a few tricks up its frayed sleeve. It's been around a long time. (Mort)
I AM DEATH, NOT TAXES. I TURN UP ONLY ONCE. (Feet of Clay)
"Multiple exclamation marks," he went on, shaking his head, "are a sure sign of a diseased mind." ([s]Faust[/s] Eric)

It's awesome.

Like a mini Jinzo.

But because it negates and stops spells, it's almost overpowered, like too powerful.

But Rincewind is the main character, he should be like, Level 7 XD

Tell you what, like Jinzo is a Level 6, make him about 7 (because spells are used more than traps).

ATK 2000? DEF 1700?

Seems balanced enough to say he stops spells and can stop whole attacks D:

You might need a downside effect, like you have to pay lifepoints, or discard a card
to use its effect XD. Something to stop you using it over and over. :P

Rince is not the main character... because the Discworld novels don't have a consistent main character :P Just to clarify that.
And when you look at my cards, you should always keep one thing in mind: They're not made for the actual TCG. Just to clarify that as well.

Now for your criticism: Yeah, now that I think about it, it may be a bit to strong... but on the other hand, your opponent has an easy way to still play Spell Cards: Just attack it. Either it's dead and cannot use it's ability, or it's removed from play and cannot use it's ability. And since it also disables your own Spells, it's more like a double-edged sword I'd say. I don't have any experience in the TCG, so I actually have no idea if any of the cards I make is balanced. I'd suggest you overlook that and go on to more interesting aspects... like... "the picture is nice and colorful"... just kidding :D You can of course comment on whatever you want ;)

Anyways, I'm glad you like the card, be sure to check out future ones as well, because it's always nice to also hear the opinion of someone who actually plays this game

Spoon

Well I understand you can just attack it to use Spells.

But you could just pay 500 Life Points to negate all the attacks XD

Meaning it's almost an indestructable card.

Only traps can stop it really, or monster effects :P
Alright, I just increase the price on the removing effect to 1000... then you have to think twice (as much) about bringing him back :P I won't do any major changes though, because a. I'm too tired right now and have to sleep, and b. because I just don't want to :D Nothing against you, it's just that I'm personally happy with the effect.

Good night,

Spoon

You like Discworld?
Like... that sounds wrong :P I love it! And I can't wait for "Unseen Academicals" to be released in germany (should be this month)! And I'm really glad that I'm not the only one in here
I love you even more now. Shame ye beat me to my making a Discworld Set.

10/10
Thank you very much ;) And I can't "beat" you in making a Discworld Set. If you want to make one, make one. Please... I wanna see it too :( At least we would only have 2 Discworld-Sets on this side... if you compare this to the number of Naruto/One Piece/Bleach/Kingdom Hearts Sets, you really can't go wrong with one more

PS: I added another card to celebrate that I found another Discworld-Fan here. This card, Bloody Red Sandman, is for you :D

Brilliant card, though Carrot ain't my fave out of Discworld.

Cut Me Own Throat Dibbler, Bloody Stupid Johnson, Death (Read his parts in the style of Christopher Lee, it fits perfectly) and the Luggage are all my favourites. Oh, and Maurice.

I WOULD make a Discworld Set, but I'm really pre-occupied with my Doctor Who Set at the moment. I might make a Discworld mini-set though. We'll see :3

I'd really like to see it... however, I also wish you the best of luck with your Doctor Who Set ;)

It's a great idea, I really like the cards you did already. And I love such mini-game-in-game-games like the one on Carrot Ironfoundersson (Tried to write it down after reading it just one time and it worked, yeay!). But while reading the cards' effects I kinda missed the whole wit and wiz thing of the Discworld franchise. But I'm still wondering on how to connect a card game to the DW humour yet without any solution. Keep it up!

I'm not used to write it down, think it's kinda senseless and ridiculous, but I have to admit that I really LOLd. LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL Chm. It's just great. =)

Yes, I know what you mean. I'm still thinking of a way myself. The major problem is the kind of humor, it's just hard to translate... especially because this is british humor, something that we germans never understood and probably will never understand  Promised, I'm working on it. Maybe I have to redo certain cards for that... I'll try. Thanks for your comment :)

Hehe, yeah... just ask DHeroDogma on how to do it, he's da man of professional lolling

Oh, btw.: You got a Mail. At least I hope it's yours...

I LOVE the discworld novels I've read. You have done them justice. I may be able to help you for pictres on saturday and sunday for DEATH, Rincewind and the Silver Horde (The Last Hero book).

10/10
Well, I'm happy with the Rincewind picture, the DEATH is alright, but the Silver Horde would be great :) I'm glad you like them, even though I currently can't continue this set because I have too much other things at hand (in the forum and IRL).
awesomeness been ages since I'v seen Discworld (I don't read the books but played the games and watched the movies) cards of the characters I recognize are good and suite them well imo
I highly recommend reading the books. Do it. Now!
But I'm glad you both think they fit, still not entirely happy, but what can you do

So, eh... still no new cards, but as soon as my K-On! Set reaches the 100, I guess I'll continue here.

So long,

Spoon

As a Discworld fan, these cards are awesome. And not as a Discworld fan, these cards are still awesome.

However, while I admit Susan IS a badass, this is a horrifically broken card, even giving the source material. This card would have people maindecking D.D. Crow out of sheer terror, and the fact that even her dear old granddad's effect doesn't stop her makes it all the more broken. She doesn't seem to have inherited his Compelling Voice in this incarnation, however.

The only saving grace is she nails you with a one-sided Necrovalley.

Why do people keep reading this, I wanted to let it sink until my K-On! Set is finished... it's not even stickied... joke, of course I'm glad you like them, as a fan and as a non-fan :)

Yeah, you might be right about that... but I have no intend in changing it now, maybe when I pick up this set again, I'll reconsider it, thank you very much :)
