GX - Into the Darkness

Note: When I put GX into the title, that merely means that the story takes place mainly around the Duel Academy introduced in the series. The actual characters from GX will be referenced, but not actually put in the story (unless someone want them to guest-star for a bit. Then I might.)

Second Note: The first chapter is kind of dark. It won't always be like this, I just wanted to give a certain character a dramatic arrival, as well as show the more disturbing part of his personality. It won't appear too much, only while he duels. Additionally, Darkness Game is used, in this fic, as a broader form of Shadowgame. The Shadowgame is a specific part of Darkness game - the loser loses thier soul. But the punishment for losing a Darkness game can be anything. It will be further explained in later chapters.

Chapter One: Duel in the Dark

A girl stood on a moonlit path, deep in thought about something. Staring at the moon, she didn’t notice that a figure was approaching her.

“What’s a cute girl like you doing out here so late at night?” Turning to face the newcomer, she noticed it was a guy wearing a cloak, the hood covering his eyes, and his Obelisk Blue uniform partially hidden by the garment.

Sighing, the girl spoke to him. “If you’re going to flirt with someone, at least take off the hood, or tell them your name.” This was answered by a slight laugh.

“I’m sorry, but I can’t do either at the moment. Anyway, how about you and me have a little duel?” She could see his gentle smile transform into a smirk.

“Let me guess. If you win, I have to go out with you.” She frowned. “’cause there’s no way that’s going to happen.” A full blown laugh came from this.

“Yeah, right. Like I’d ever make a bet like that. Dueling is a good way to get to know people,” At this, she observed his smile become almost demonic for a split second, and then return to normal. “so when I did win, if I didn’t like what I learned from how you dueled, why would I want to go out with you?”

The girl got slightly angry at this. “Confident you’ll win, huh? That’s it, you’re on!”

Pulling out their duel discs, they realized that in this spot, there was no way for them to be seen by anyone looking from the dorms. There was a small patch of forest that obscured Slipher, Ra wasn’t within sight range, and Obelisk Blue had their dorms on the other side of the building.

The girl paused, thinking carefully. That was the girls dorm near them, she had come from it herself. The boys dorm was even farther away, so what was this boy doing over here?

“So, let’s flip a coin.” The kid said, pulling his deck out of his pocket, and inserting it into the duel disc. “What do you call?” Withdrawing his hand from his deck, a coin seemed to appear in it.

“Heads.” The girl called, and the boy flipped, catching it in midair and pressing it against his wrist.

“I’m sorry, but this time it looks like I’ll go first. It’s Tails.”

“I’ll begin by activating the spell card, Partition of the Shadows!” Inserting the card into his graveyard, the lower half of his face contorted into a sneer. “This card awakens your worst nightmare! I call a Shadowgame!”

An orb of Darkness blotted out the entire area, and the girl felt a chill descend upon her. “What is this thing?” She asked, and the boy smiled.

“Oh, nothing - just think of it as a field spell.” He replied, and placed a monster on the field. “I summon the Nightmare Warrior - Captain Deathblade!” (1800/1300)

A man in a long red trench coat appeared on the field, wielding a black blade which seemed to be dripping a red liquid. It didn’t take a genius to figure out what it was. The girl shuddered, and the boy smiled. ‘She’s that repulsed by my first monster? I’m going to have a lot of fun… probably the most fun since I arrived at this academy.’

“I’ll end my turn with one facedown card.” He said, and both duelist and monster gave a slight bow to indicate that their turn was done.

‘Oddly polite for having such a horrific monster.’ “I’ll draw!” she pulled the card of the top of her deck, and smiled. ‘What I need to get rid of that creepy monster once and for all.’ “I’ll activate the spell card, Wrath of the Goddess! By paying one thousand life points, I can destroy one monster on the field, and monsters with the same name can no longer be played!”

The boy smiled as a beam of light came out of the top of the dome, engulfing his monster, and leaving no trace behind. GLP: (3000)

“I’ll - what?” The girl had been about to play a monster, as the Nightmare warrior pulled itself out of the ground, and brushed dirt off of it’s red trench coat. (1800/1300) “That thing can’t come back! What happened?” She then noticed the lack of a face-down card on his side of the field.

“Let me explain.” The boy said, a creepy smile appearing on his face. “The facedown card was called Nightmare Negation. I can send that facedown card and one card from my hand to the graveyard to negate one of your spell or trap cards that affects one of my Nightmare Warriors.” There was a pause, as he placed one card from his hand in the graveyard, and then he smiled. “But never mind that. Please, by all means, continue your turn.”

The girl placed the card she was going to play back in her hand. It wouldn’t be able to beat that monster. Placing a different monster face-down, and two spell/traps, she ended her turn.

The boy pulled a card off of his deck. “Time for you to see the power of a true field spell! I play Field of Nightmares! Now, whenever a monster is summoned, it gains a nightmare counter! The dome of shadow’s inside changed, the ground becoming visible, as a field of bones. The boy sighed. “It’s really not as impressive with the Shadowgame in effect. The dome is about ten to twenty yards across, so that’s all you can see of it - whereas without it, the graveyard extends as far as the eye can see. It’s really an impressive sight.”

The girl shuddered, wondering why someone would want cards as terrifying as these. “I’ll… I’ll have to take your word for it.” She barely managed to say this, as an overwhelming terror was building up inside of her.

‘Ah, yes… I see she’s becoming susceptible to the powers of the Darkness Game. She held our for such a long time, I was almost worried. Hmph. No girl can withstand both my field card and a Darkness Game.’ The boy laughed in his mind, until a glowering figure appeared in his mind.

‘Oh, yeah. That one.’ There was a pause in his thoughts as he remembered their encounter. ‘She scares me. And that’s saying something.’

“I summon Nightmare Warrior - Bloodletter!” A man with two bloody knives appeared, and grinned wickedly. (1200/1200)

The girl’s stomach churned again, and the boy smiled. “Now, attack her facedown monster, Deathblade Slash!” His first monster cut through the monster, revealing a Magician of Faith, that then blew into shattered fragments. “My Captain gains one hundred attack points every time a monster is destroyed as a result of battle.” (1900/1300)

“Now, strike directly! Bloodied Blades!” His next monster rushed across the field, and stabbed the girl in the stomach. She collapsed, holding her wound, as blood began to stain her uniform.

“B…but… It’s only supposed to be a hologram.” She said, somewhat in a state of disbelief, not wanting to accept that there was now a large gash in her stomach.

The mysterious boy laughed. “Stand up! If you lie there too long, you’ll lose the duel, and believe me, you don’t want that to happen!” Staggering to her feet, the girl withdrew her hand from her side, gritting her teeth to try and block out the pain.

“Good girl.” He commented, and took a glance at her side. Seeing the blood start to seep through her uniform, the boy licked his lips. There was something about watching her bleed that looked just so… delicious. “I’ll throw one card facedown. That concludes my turn.”

The girl noticed the look on the bottom half of his face. ‘Just what is this kid?’ She thought, before pulling one card off the top of her deck. “I activate the spell card pot of greed!” She hastily pulled the top two cards off her deck in desperation. If she didn’t draw something that could protect her… she was finished.

“I’ll summon Spirit of the Harp, in defense position.” (800/2000) There was a jolt of pain that wracked her body, and she fell to her knees, clutching her side. ‘Damn! I can’t hold out much longer… brother… please forgive me.’

The boy licked his lips again, his stare perverse in nature. As she got back to her feet, he smiled. They could play a little longer. “I…I activate the continuous spell, Spell Economics! This makes it so I don’t have to pay life points to activate magic cards. Go, Wrath of the Goddess!” the same beam of intense light came down form the top of the dome, obliterating his Captain.

“Well done. You’ve destroyed one of my monsters… that’s more than I expected from a mere first-year, even one in Obelisk Blue. I’ll be sure to repay you in kind.” The girl set one facedown card, and ended her turn.

“Now, let me introduce you to a spell card of mine. It’s a continuous as well. Dark Restraints! As long as this card is on my field, you may not activate more than one card per turn. However, I may not activate more than two cards each turn, or this card is destroyed.” Dark chains came out of the void behind her, wrapping around her wrists and ankles.

“To activate this, I must sacrifice one Nightmare Warrior, and give up half my life points, but it’s worth it.” His monster disappeared into a pit of shadow, and a black aura temporarily surrounded him.

“Now, let me introduce my final card this turn. Nightmare Warrior - Torturer!” A man with a long, curved knife appeared on the field, and calmly walked over to where he was in between the girl and her monsters. (700/500)

“He can’t attack, or be attacked, but he’s sure to cause you quite a lot of pain for the rest the game.” The boy commented, and nearly licked his lips in anticipation. “I’ll hand it over to you.”

The girl drew a card. “I activate Excavation of Mage Stones! This makes me discard two cards to add a spell from my graveyard to my hand!” The boy just smiled.

“Now, I activate - ahh!” The chains snapped tight, forcing her arms apart, as the rest of her body hung limply.

“You didn’t forget about my spell card, did you? One card per turn is all you’re going to get.” There was a perverted grin along with this, as the boy continued to stare at her bleeding body.

“But it’s my turn now, and Torture’s effect activates, dealing you two hundred points of damage!” The man ran his blade across her outstretched arm, drawing a small trail of blood. This, of course brought along another perverse thought from the boy, as she screamed in pain.

“My first card this turn will be Nightmare Confiscation! I may look at, and discard one card of the type that I call in your hand! I choose Spell!” Two cards were held up, one being her Wrath of the Goddess, which he had correctly predicted had been added back to her hand with Excavation.

“You Wrath of the Goddess is discarded, and you take two hundred points of damage.” He said, and a black aura lit up around her, as his monster slid her card into the graveyard.

“My next card is a monster! Nightmare Warrior - Dreamstealer, in attack mode!” A wraith-like man appeared on the field, strolling over to the girl. (1600/1500) “As long as Dreamstealer is on the field, we may not conduct our draw phases.”

“It’s over… you’ve lost.” The girl’s eyes widened as she examined her hand. It was right. There was no card for her to play that could get her out of this situation. Without being able to draw, she had lost.

“Just give up… there’s nothing for you to do anymore.” The boy ended his turn, followed shortly be the girl’s weak cry of submission. She had lost this duel - there was no way around it. “I… end.”

As it became the boy’s turn again, the monster ran it’s knife down her thigh but she barely seemed to notice the pain in her hazy state. From the boy’s point of view, he watched as her eyes dulled, and her limbs became limp.

The Nightmare Warrior - Dreamstealer had wrapped himself around her, his head next to her’s, and his arm on her shoulder, whispering things into her ear.

GLP: 1200

“It’s the end for you… don’t make it too hard on yourself. Just stop fighting it.” The monster whispered into her ear, and the poor girl’s spirit was on the verge of collapse. She could feel a slight pain ever now and then, as the other Nightmare Warrior ran it’s blade down her limbs, but it didn’t affect her at all. She was too far gone.

GLP: 600

“It’s done now… you may rest. There is nothing more for you to do here… not now, and maybe not ever. But we shall see. All may be useful to the end result. Until then… rest…”

The monsters faded away, along with the chains that bound her, as the orb of darkness, and bone yard reverted to their original state, the moonlit path that seemed so far away.

“Goodnight, Aria.” The boy said, and walked down the path. As he left, Aria’s consciousness surfaced enough for one moment of clarity before it sank into darkness.

She had no wounds. There was no gash in her stomach, or trails of blood on her arms. Her eyes opened in shock, and the shadows claimed her.

Thank you all for your comments.

I now know I have something to work on - not overusing expressions on one character.

Well, here is a much less dark chapter, number two of my fic. (The only times they will be that dark is when certain characters duel... but it does have darker themes in general than the original show.)

WARNING: A character in this chapter uses a deck based off a video game. If you don't like it, you don't have to read it.

WARNING: This chapter containes a character with extremely rare cards. If you don't like it, you don't have to read it.

WARNING: This chapter contains inappropiate use of a duel spirit. It will be explained later on, but until then, do not wonder why some things don't quite add up.

Chapter Two: Duel Academy! First Duel of the Year!

“Mr. Yagami. I know that you require sleep, but you may not do so IN MY CLASS!” There was a pause, and a messy brown haired kid shot up.

“Thirteen!” He blurted out, then looked around at everyone before rubbing the back of his head sheepishly. “Sorry.” he apologized, and the professor went back to the original topic.

“Okay. Today, we will be having a duel test. This is the first day, and they say that a duel is the best way to get to know people, so… let’s see if we can learn anything from our sleepy friend over there.” Kiira Yagami could only look on in confusion as the entire class turned to him.

“Me?” He asked, a puzzled expression on his face. There was a loud thud as somebody in the class smacked their head onto their deck in frustration, and the teacher massaged his temples.

“Yes, you, Kiira. Now get down here, and I will find you an opponent.” The Ra Yellow shot out of his seat, racing down to the mini arena at the bottom of the class.

“Alright! A duel’s something I can get into. Sorry, but you give a boring welcome speech, Sensei.” The man backed up, and Kiira took his place in the arena.

“Now, does anyone want to duel him?” This was answered by an awkward silence and people tried to figure out why the would want to duel him. He had fallen asleep in class, and that had immediately marked him as a weak duelist, so the Obelisk Blues were wondering whether he’d even be worth their time to duel.

The Ra Yellows were under a similar judgement. If he was so bad as to sleep in class, then his rank shouldn’t even be as high as theirs, giving them no reason to want to duel him, as they wouldn’t advance through their dorms by defeating weak opponents.

One overly cocky Slipher Red stood up.

“Ha! I’ll take you out, and raise my rank. This’ll be easy!” Kiira frowned at the boy‘s comment, turning to the professor.

“I don’t have to duel him to know that I won’t like this guy.” He said.

---

“I’m Nenshou Kazehana, the Red Blaze of Duel Academy! You’re going down!” There was a pause as Kiira turned to his friend at his desk and said “Mouthy, isn’t he?”

Said mouthy Osiris scowled. “I heard that, you know.” To this, Kiira smiled.

“So?” After there was no response, the boy nodded. “So, it looks like I’m going first.”

“I summon the first of my legendary monsters - the almighty Keybearer, in attack mode!” A boy in strange garb, including rather bulbous red shorts and almost clown-like shoes appeared on the field, with brown hair in a less messy style of Kiira’s. (1600/1500)

There was some laughter from his opponent, and most of the Obelisk Blues. “You call that legendary? It’s just a dumb kid - kinda reminds me of you!” Nenshou shouted, and Kiira smiled.

“When Keybearer is summoned, he allows me to look at the top card of my deck. If that card has “Key”, or “Heart” in it’s name, I may add it to my hand.” The boy glanced at it, and put it into his hand. ‘That’ll come in handy.’ He thought, before placing a card facedown on his duel disk.

“That’ll be all. Your move.”

Nenshou drew, and placed a monster on the duel disc. “It’s Infeno Soldier, a truly powerful monster!” The boy said with a laugh, as his monster, a warrior with hardened magma armor and a flaming sword appeared on the field. (2100/0)

Kiira whistled. “Impressive stats for a normal monster. That card is pretty rare - I’ve only heard of it before.” Nenshou smiled proudly, before Kiira made his next statement.

“Now, with a card as good as that, how did you end up in Slipher?” There was a pause, and Nenshou ordered his monster to destroy the Keybearer.

“Oh, yes. Regardless of strength, your monster has no protection against traps.” The Blazing warrior charged headfirst at Kiria monster. “I’m guessing you don’t have any negative or defensive cards in that deck. Go, Sleight - Warpinator!”

His monster raised a hand, pointed it at the charging soldier, and it was simply and suddenly gone.

“What! What did you do!” Nenshou shouted, and Kiira covered his ears. “Please, indoor voices only.” He teased, and several people face fell. You wouldn’t expect a lame joke like that to come from a highschooler, even one who was currently making a ridiculous face at his opponent, with his monster copying him.

“Well, my Sleight removes an attacking monster from the game, so… sucks for you.” The boy said, and Nenshou frowned. He was losing… to this clown?

“I activate the spell card, Two-Man Cell Battle. This allows us to special summon level four normal monsters at our end phases. However, knowing you Ra and Obelisk duelists, you think that normal monsters are worthless, so I bet you don’t have any. That allows me to play them for free. I summon Luster Dragon, ending my turn.” (1900/1600)

Kiira gave his opponent a childish smile. “Well now… another strong monster… your deck is a normal beat down, using their support cards like Two Man Cell Battle to bring them out quickly. You also probably have Heart of the Underdog, and a few stronger normal monsters to tribute for space if I don’t destroy them fast enough.” Nenshou frowned. He had seen three cards, and analyzed his entire deck? No… there was no way he’d see his surprise coming. And then…

“Well, your deck is one of the worst match-ups possible for mine. Good thing I drew this. I activate the equip magic card, Blade of Heart - Oathkeeping Key!” A large, ornate silvery key-like blade appeared in the monster’s hand, and it twirled it excitedly. (1600/1500 - (2300/1500)

“Go, Seaside Promise!” The monster leapt into the air, bringing the weapon down on the dragon’s head, and it blew apart. (NLP: 3600)

“I’ll end with two cards facedown, and that’ll be it.” Kiira commented, and watched his draw closely. This was not an opponent to be messed with, and his dueling senses were giving a giant alarm on this guy.

“I’ll draw, and activate the continuous spell, Heart of the Underdog!” Kiira snickered, as his opponent did indeed have a deck exactly like the one he had predicted. There was something off about his first and third hand cards, however… something that was telling his senses to watch out.

“My next monster is Ruby Dragon!” (1900/1500) A red version of luster dragon appeared on the field, and Kiira saw the next move unfold in his mind. He was going to offer it, in some way or another, to special summon a monster strong enough to defeat his.

“Now, I activate the spell card Dragon’s Release! I may send one normal monster from my field to the graveyard to special summon one dragon sub-type normal monster from my hand! Arise, Tri-Horned Dragon!!” (2850/2350) The monster appeared, and Kiira had to admit it was quite impressive. Three horns came out of the back of it’s hand, and it had long claws the looked very dangerous.

“What a shame I have to slay it so soon.” He remarked to himself. “You cannot attack the turn you activate that card, correct?” Nenshou nodded. “Then it is my turn.” Another Luster dragon appeared, as Kiira started.

After drawing, and carefully examining his hand, Kiira concluded nothing would help him. “I’ll have to use it after all. Keybearer, attack the Dragon!” The young boy nodded, and leaped up, only to be knocked to the ground by the flames. His weapon disappeared, and Kira tried to shield himself from the wave of heat that drained his life points. (KLP: 3450)

“You idiot! My monster had far more attack points than yours. Why did you attack it?” There was a pause, as Kiira and his monster emerged from the flames. “Because my weapon has a special effect. The equipped monster is not destroyed, and it is sent to the graveyard instead. When that happens, I may destroy one monster on the field. Meaning your dragon dies!” There was a large explosion, as the key pierced the dragon’s throat, and it blew up. (2300/1500) - (1600/1500)

“I now equip my monster with the Blade of Heart - Oblivion Key! This raises it’s attack by eight hundred points, making it even stronger than before!” A black key weapon appeared now, and the monster grabbed hold of it, slipping into a battle position. (1600/1500) - (2400/1500)

Nenshou frowned. “You’re not taking me seriously, are you? You could have just equipped that before attacking, and destroyed my dragon without your effect.” Nenshou reprimanded, and Kira stuck one arm out towards him.

“How many arms does my monster have?” He asked, and the other boy replied with the obvious answer of “Two.” Kiira nodded. “Very good. Now, in this position,” He mimicked his monster’s battle stance, with both hands holding the sword. “How many arms are used to hold the Keyblade?” Nenshou answered with another “Two”, after realizing he was referring to the weapon as a ‘keyblade‘.

“So, how many equips can he hold?” Finally getting where this was going, Nenshou nodded. “I get it. He can only be equipped with one Blade of the Heart at a time, huh? Well, better for me, as there’s nothing to protect you from this!” He started pulling cards off his deck with the effect of Heart of the Underdog, until Kiira felt a pulse, and the boy stopped drawing.

‘Just like the other two. There’s three now. What are you trying to tell me, my friend?’ His thoughts were interrupted by Nenshou taking his turn. “I summon another Ruby Dragon!” (1900/1500) The Keybearer smiled at the new monster, it and it’s older brother, Luster Dragon trying to size themselves up against each other.

“Here goes! Dragon’s Rebirth!” Now I may summon dragons from the graveyard like it was my hand - so give a warm welcome to Tri-Horned Dragon!” The two monsters vanished as offerings to the greater beast, which emerged once more. (2850/2350)

“Attack now! Dark Dragon Flames!” The Keyberer was once again swallowed by the monster’s attack. (KLP: 3000) Once again, however, his monster emerged unharmed. “All your equips give that ability, don’t they?” Kiira nodded.

“Yeah, he can’t be killed in battle while equipped. Only the Oathkeeper gives me a revenge kill, though.” Another Luster Dragon appeared, and Kiira drew his card.

“I equip the Blade of Heart - Two Crossed. I’ll also switch my Keybearer to defense mode. I’ll add one card face-down, and that’ll be my turn.” Kiira was on the defensive. Hopefully, however, everything would go as planned.

A Ruby Dragon was summoned to the field, as he expected, and they did nothing other than attack - just what he had hoped. “I negate your attack with Shadow Corridor! This trap negates your attack, and discards one card from your hand!” For a second, a flash of worry crossed his face. There was something important in his hand, and Kiira guessed it had to do with the cards that radiated energy.

A second later, his theory was confirmed, as a different card was discarded, and the boy visibly relaxed. ‘Three cards, and he wants to keep them in his hand. Why?’

“Luster Dragon, destroy his Keybearer! Ruby Dragon, kill it when it revives!” Two blats dispatched both the weapon and the monster. It was, however, a surprise when he saw a second Keybearer and a Blonde Haired Kid in a black trench coat take it’s place.

“Confused? Two Crossed, when destroyed, summons one Keybearer and Key of Destiny from my deck!” Kiira laughed, and Nenshou growled.

‘I can’t make any headway against this guy! What’s wrong with me?’ Nenshou thought, and his opponent drew a card, making his hand size four. ‘He’s a lot tougher than I expected. He manages to keep up with my deck without using very many cards… and he said this was a bad match up? Yeah, right.’

“I summon the Magician of Heart, in attack mode! Now I play the spell card, Friends Forever, Which special summons the Guardian of Heart in attack mode!” A anthromorphic duck and a… something, appeared on his side of the field, unsheathing their respective weapons of a staff and a shield. (1700/1500) (1500/1700)

“You can’t be serious.” Nenshou said, sweat dropping at the sight of the monsters. ‘Those monsters are jokes! And that duck has a staff with a hat! A HAT!!!’

“I am. These are the Keybearer’s best friends, and faithful sidekicks. Together, they can use the ultimate power… Trinity Limit.” Sliding two cards onto the duel disk, a new weapon appeared in the hands of his monster. “First, Ultima Weapon activates, increasing my monster’s attack by 1000. (1600/1500) - (2600/1500)

“Next is the Trinity Limit, the ultimate spell. It combines the attack of the three monsters,” (5800) “divides it by two,” (2900) “And gives the score to all three of my monsters.” (2600-1500) - (2900/1500), (1700/1500) - (2900/1500), (1500/1700) - (2900/1700)

“Only those three may attack this turn, but they can all attack twice. There’s a downside to this - all battle damage they deal is made five hundred. But it’ll do anyway. Keybearer! Destroy his monsters!” Ruby Dragon and Tri-Horned Dragon fell to the monster’s giant ornate key. (NLP: 2600)

“Magician, take put his last monster, and direct attack!” Luster Dragon was hit wit ha ball of ice, and he was struck by lightning. (NLP: 1600)

“Guardian, double direct attack!” (NLP: 600)

Nenshou pulled himself to his feet. “I’m not done yet…” (KLP: 1500) “Wait, why’d your life points suffer?”

Kiira smiled. “If they’re not the only monsters on my field, I must pay half my life points to activate it.” Nenshou nodded his understanding to the boy, and Kiira set another card facedown. ‘What is he trying to tell me? I should use this card? I’ve never had a use for it before…’

Nenshou pulled the top card of his deck off, and continued the process, flashing the cards to Kiira to show that they were normal monsters.

“I activate the magic card, Pot of Greed. This allows me to draw two cards.” Pulling two cards off the top of his deck, he then selected one of the cards, and activated it. “Improvement on the Pot of Greed allows me to draw two cards during the turn Pot of Greed is activated.” Another pulse. The card he had draw with Improvement was another one of those cards.

Another two cards, and another pulse. ‘Five! What could possibly need that many cards?’ Something struck in his mind.

“Hehehe… it’s over.” Nenshou said, and placed all five cards into the duel disc. “Instant win. Exodia.”

Kiira froze. ‘Damnit, you could have just told me!’ The Keybearer scratched the back of his head sheepishly.

The legendary monster appeared on the field, charging up an energy blast in its hands. The classroom became ominously dark, a harbinger to the imminent destruction.

“Exodia!” Nenshou laughed. “Obliterate!”

Hm.... I didn't really like this chapter. It's more fun to write my villains...

Anyway, next chapter will have two very short duels, and the first arc begins there, with the introduction of the first arc's main villain...

Hmph... he's still not as fun to write as some of my other villians.

Oh, yeah. Improvement on the Pot of Greed belongs to Seeker of the Soul. I claim no credit in it's creation.

Scratch that... Xiikra's fun to write.

Chapter Three arrives. (And early, too.)

------------------------------------------------------------------

Chapter Three: Fighting Back - The School’s No.1 Appears!

“Exodia!” Nenshou laughed. “Obliterate!”

The blast of energy took out The Key of Destiny, and was then swept across the field, destroying Guardian of Heart and Magician of Heart, before turning on the Keybearer.

“Reveal face-down card!” Kiira shouted, hoping beyond hope that he was in time.

Exodia’s blast swept towards the Keybearer, washing over the boy like a tidal wave. An instant before his destruction, a giant door shot out of the ground, protecting him.

“What?!” Kiira smirked at the remark. “This is my trap, Closing Kingdom Hearts! It negates any instant win effect, and sends all cards used in it’s effect to the graveyard!”

Nenshou dropped to his knees. ‘It… it’s not possible. Not with this… it can’t be! He’s unstoppable! How did he predict this?!’

Kiira smiled, as the door opened, and the destroyed monsters walked out. “It’s over. Closing Kingdom Hearts now deals you five hundred points of damage for each card destroyed by this card’s effect. I count five!”

From inside the darkness of the door, a blinding light shone in Nenshou’s eyes, and the boy‘s life points tricked down to zero. (NLP: 0)

“And that is why you don’t underestimate me!” Kiira said, needing to get in that final jab that annoyed people so much.

------

“Kiira, you were great!” Janken came running up to him. The boy smiled at his friend and sidekick.

“You weren’t too bad either. Your skills have improved since the last time I saw you duel.” He wasn’t kidding either. Janken used to be an average duelist, but he had beaten his opponent with almost double Kiira’s ending life points.

“Those cards haven’t lost their touch either. I can’t believe I pulled it off… I only could because he was helping me.” Janken nodded knowingly.

“So you admit to cheating, huh? I knew it. There’s no way you could have won on your own.” The boy turned, becoming face-to-face with Nenshou’s glare.

“I didn’t mean it like that. I was trying to say that I couldn’t have done it without the power of this guy right here.” Holding up the Keybearer card, Nenshou snatched it from him.

“I don’t see what’s so special about him.” He commented dryly, before handing it back. Kiira held up a hand, in a position similar to the one Nenshou used when holding his cards.

“First and third. This card sent me the pulses of your cards, and the first and third really stood out. Those two were pieces of Exodia, drawn in your first hand.”

Nenshou let a look of disbelief cross his face for a split second, and walked off in a hurry. ‘I will figure out how you knew that. I won’t let you cheat in our next duel.’

It was after the class had ended, and everyone was leaving through the main entrance to go to their dorms. There were longer breaks on the first day, so everyone could find their classes, but most students took advantage of that time to talk to their friends instead.

Kiira and Janken sat on the rocks near the entrance, passing time with idle conversation after Nenshou left. Nothing of much importance happened, although there was a confusing moment where an Obelisk Blue girl ran by, shouting something about being late, but pretty uneventful. A minute or two before the bell rang, they moved on, heading to class.

---

Aria shot up out of bed, fear rising. That boy - where was he? What happened? It was a few moments of fright until she regained enough of her senses to realize nothing was happening to her.

‘Was it all a dream?’ She thought, before getting ready for school.

About a half-hour later, Aria finally checked the clock. There was a few seconds where she stared at it in disbelief, and ran towards school. She had missed her class - not something you want to do on the first day of school.

About ten minutes later, she ran into the school, intent on being on time to her second class at the very least. “Crap… so late…” She muttered to herself as she ran by. Two Ra Yellow students looked at her oddly, then shrugged to each other and continued their conversation.

Turning a corner inside the school, Aria slammed headfirst into an Obelisk blue, who helped her back up while smiling gently. “I’m sorry… I’m really sorry. I missed my first class, so I was in a hurry and-” she suddenly stopped babbling when the boy looked at her in the eyes. She couldn’t feel anything - her senses had shut down on her, and the boy gave off a warm smile.

“It’s okay. Go to your class. You don’t want to be late, do you?” There was a second before her mouth repeated, without her consent, “No… I don’t. I’ll be going to class now.” and she watched from inside her body as it walked calmly to class.

‘What is this? And who is he?’

---

The boy brushed himself off. ‘What an annoying little girl. I wonder… she’s a first-year… does she know my brother? I expect he would be in Obelisk Blue, just as she is. I’ll get back to her after the big duel.’

Walking around the same corner, he had to dodge three more students who weren’t paying attention to where they were going. It reminded him of what he was supposed to be doing, and he put a bit more speed in his step. - It didn’t look good if someone as high-ranking as him was late to class.

---

“Good morning students. I am Professor Tasan, and it’s a pleasure to meet you all. Today, I would like to give a briefing on this semester’s curriculum, dueling in ancient times.”

Aria was bored. Ever since she regained control of her body, (which was approximately the time she sat in her assigned seat) the Professor had gone on and on about really boring things.

“…of course, one cannot forget that our first unit is the study of the legendary Darkness Game, and it’s sub-categories, like the Shadowgame.” Aria was immediately attentive.

One student raised their hand. “What is a Darkness Game again?” Perfect. She needed to learn all she could about what that weird thing was in her dream.

“A Darkness game is the manifestation of the ancient Egyptian power imbedded in Duel Monsters. Typically it lies, hidden away, but the Darkness Game pulls the energy out of the cards, temporarily distorting reality.

The boy smiled, thinking he was catching on. “So, it’s like the ultimate Duel Monsters Game, right?” Everyone in the class who knew what the Darkness Games did looked at him in a stunned horror.

“No.” The professor said firmly. “It is the ultimate tool of evil. Within the confines of a Darkness Game, they can do anything they want. Many times, the world almost ended because of such a thing. That attitude will lead you to an early demise.”

This time it was Aria’s turn to be brave enough to ask a question. “Why? What happens?” The professor adjusted his glasses, and frowned. “Because, in many variants of the Darkness Game, the most notable being the variations of Shadowgame, the loser of the duel, loses their soul.” Shivers went down the class’ spines.

“Is there no other end to a Darkness Game?” The same boy as before. The professor glared at him.

“There is. It is the most frightening part of it. At the end of a Darkness Game, the loser, if they emerge with their soul, has what is known as a Punishment Game inflicted upon them. Anything may be set as a punishment. For example, the winner could decide to turn you into a fish, or to make you their slave, and the world would reshape itself to accommodate. People on the receiving end of a Punishment Game are typically turned into slaves that cannot disobey their ‘masters’. It’s truly frightening to realize what exactly Shadowmages were capable of.” Aria suppressed the urge to run in fear. If what had been in her dream, wasn’t actually a dream, what would that boy have given her as a Punishment Game? She clearly wasn’t a fish, so she was fairly sure that wasn’t it.

“Oh, yes, that’s right. There is a duel today for the entire school to see, so this concludes our session. Pack up quickly, because you wouldn’t want to miss our No.1 take on an opponent, now would you?” At this, a lot of people started hustling to get their stuff.

Aria hadn’t had time to bring anything, so she merely left the room.

Walking to the arena, Aria saw the boy she had bumped into walking into a doorway. She tried the handle, when she got to it, but it wouldn’t open. Frowning, she continued on her way.

---

“Students of Duel Academy, meet the up-and-coming boy in the ranks of Obelisk Blue, Mitsu Hiiro!” A boy in a blue outfit with golden hair came walking out, and Kiira frowned. ‘What a gaudy hair color. I hope he’s a better duelist than he is a hairstylist.’

“And our reigning champion, of Obelisk Blue Dorm, Xiikra-” ‘No way…’ Kiira thought. “-Yagami!” A boy with a black, and less spiked and messy version of Kiira’s hairstyle came out, sporting the white and blue outfit reserved for only the Kaiser of DA.

“It can’t be him.” Kiira said to himself, and Janken asked him what he was going on about. Pointing to the second duelist, Kiira looked on in horror. “That… that’s my older brother.”

Down in the arena, Mitsu smiled at his opponent. “I’ve always wanted to face someone of your caliber, Sir Kaiser, so this is a great honor that you accepted my challenge.”

Xiikra frowned. “Quit wasting my time. I’m here to duel, although I can’t guarantee a long fight. Hopefully you’re as good as you say you are.”

MLP: 4000

KLP: 4000

“Draw! I’ll start off with a basic opening, one monster face-down, and one card facedown.” Mitsu slid the two cards into his duel disc, and watched as their holographic representations appeared on the field.

“You’re such a bore… it’s my turn, and I activate the spell card XIII Blades. This destroys two cards on your side of the field by sending one of my “The 13” monsters from my hand to the graveyard. Both of Mitsu’s set cards were cleared away by the impaling swords.

“Unlucky you… I drew them both. I’ll summon The 13 - The Melodious Nocturne, in attack mode. A young man in a black trench coat that looked that same as Kiira’s Key of Destiny’s appeared on the field, and he summoned a giant blue Sitar, and began playing it. (0/0)

“What kind of monster is that?” The golden-haired boy asked. Xiikra shrugged his shoulders, and replied. “Spellcaster. But if that’s not what you meant, then I believe the correct response is ‘What kind of hair color is that?’.” He said this with a flat tone and a straight face, so the onlookers were pretty sure he was serious.

Four guitarist made out of water appeared on the field with him, and The Nocturne’s attack increased. (0/0) - (2000/0) (500/500x4)

“Oh, I get it, it has the combined attack of those monsters. However, I can’t help but notice that you summoned them in defense mode instead of OTKing me right there, so I’m guessing they can’t attack.” Xiikra nodded.

“Correct. Now to play the second card in my combo, Musician’s Recital. This summons tokens for you to have.” “Dance, Water, Dance!” The monster said, playing a slightly different tune. The Waterforme tokens suddenly increased to nine, with five appearing on Mitsu’s side of the field. Kiira scowled at the monster. (500/500x5)

“You never said there were more like you.” Kiira commented to the card he was holding in his hand. The Keybearer frowned. “I didn’t? I’m sure I did… you probably weren’t paying attention.” It replied.

The young man then held out his sitar, ready to attack. Xiikra waved a hand, almost bored with the duel. “Of course, my monster gains a bonus from them as well.” (2000/0) - (4500/0)

“Now finish this match. Crystal Rave.” The man leaped up, flying across the field in between two pillars of water, before bringing his giant sitar down on the token, completely crushing it. The shockwave of water from his attack knocked Mitsu off his feet, and the boy was swept off the arena. (MLP:0)

“And our Kaiser demonstrates why he’s earned that title again! It’s a one-turn kill!” The announcer was cut off by a look from Xiikra.

“You’re going to shut up now. I’m not satisfied with this duel. You’ll give me another opponent. One who is more competent.” The man’s eyes became unfocused, and Kiira scowled.

“Oh, yeah! Like using that is fair, brother!” He shouted, and suddenly every pair of eyes was on him.

“…Kiira… It’s been a long time since we last dueled. Get over here, I wish to duel you again.” Kiira now found himself under his brother’s power.

‘I hate this. Hypnotic suggestion… Damn, why didn’t I inherit it? At least I should have some kind of defense against this power.’

Feeling the ability to move his body again after stepping onto the arena, Kiira wasted no time in drawing his cards. Xiikra gave a silent nod to him to go first, and pulled five cards off the top of his deck.

“Draw! I’ll summon the card of your demise - Keybearer, in attack mode!” The trademark character of Kiira’s deck popped out, summoning a giant key and resting it on his shoulder. (1600/1500)

“Two facedowns and that’ll be it.” Xiikra nodded, drawing a card, and placing it on his duel disc. “I summon The 13: The Melodious Nocturne, in attack mode. (2000/0) (500/500) (500/500) (500/500) (500/500) “Crystal Rave.”

Kiira flipped up a face-down card. “Trinity Force activates now. By discarding one of my three, I may increase the ATK of another one by 1000. Go, Firaga!”

The Magician of Heart appeared, intercepting the young man in midair with a large ball of fire. Falling to the ground, the monster turned and fled shouting “Run! Run away!”

Kiira sweatdropped. “Go, Kingdom Crush!” The Keybearer leaped up, lading a powerful blow on the fleeing monsters head, destroying it. (XLP: 3400)

“You don’t have very brave monsters, do you, brother?” Xiikra scowled. “Was that an emotion?!” Kira said, in mock surprise, drawing his card.

“I’ll summon Guardian of Heart, in attack mode!” (1500/1700) The weird something-or-other readied its shield. “Keybearer, Guardian, attack two tokens!”

Two of the musicians were destroyed, leaving two remaining.

“Are you done yet? I want to crush you.” Xiikra said, and Kiira ended with one face-down card. “Good. Now I’ll draw.” Pulling the card off of his deck, Xiikra gave a small smile.

Kiira hated that smile. It could only mean one thing.

“I sacrifice my two tokens to summon The 13 – The Superior!” A tall man in a black cloak appeared in place of the two water musicians, and lifted his hood, revealing a chiseled face, and empty looking dead eyes. (3000/2700)

“You remember my monster, don’t you?” Xiikra asked, and a wave of power washed over the field. “It’s been a long time. This boy seems interesting... He looks a lot like you.” Xiikra nodded.

“Introductions. Superior, this is Kiira, my little brother. You’ve only fought him before while outside a duel disk. Kiira, this is Superior.” The Keybearer readied his weapon eagerly.

“It won’t be the same as last time, you know.” Kiira stated, and Xiira merely smiled.

“You wish.” Laser beams swept over his two face-down cards, destroying them. “This is the spell card Laser Force. It activates only when I have Superior or Freeshooter on my side of the field, and destroys your set cards. Now… Attack! Null Beam Blades!”

The monster stretched out its arms, and two beams of red light came from each gloved hand. It struck Guardian twice, before spinning around and attacking Keybearer, both of Kiira’s monsters shattering into fragmented pieces. (KLP: 1100)

“You remember, don’t you? When Superior destroys a monster as a result of battle, he can attack once more. Only once per turn, though.” Xiira explained.

‘I can’t lose like this!’ Kiira thought. ‘But without my Keybearer, I can’t even sense his duel spirits… There isn’t much that can save me now.’

“By discarding two cards from my hand, I activate the spell card Call of Nothing!” This removes one monster in your graveyard from the game.” Keybearer appeared on the field, only to be sucked into an interdimensional hole. “During the next turn, you cannot normal summon, special summon, or set monsters of the same card type.” Kiira froze. His brother knew his deck too well. The only monster that could pull him out of this situation was now unable to be summoned.

Drawing his card, Kiira looked sadly at it, as it was an equip spell – a Blade of Heart. It would have helped him if he could have summoned the card in his hand, but there wasn’t any way to do that. There was nothing he could play.

“I end.” Kiira said, slumping down, defeated. Xiikra smiled a true smile… one that looked really evil on the boy’s face.

“Good… submit to your fate… Superior, direct attack!” (KLP: 0) The boy fell to the ground, his eyes slowly fluttering closed. As he drifted into unconsciousness, Kiira could hear his brother’s last words.

“You can’t defeat anything with so little power. Find true strength in rage, sadness, and despair, then – come see me again. It will be a more interesting battle.”

To any who may have noticed...

Kiira's last name is a refrence to Death Note - there are no similarities between the two characters, however. I had created the name Kiira long before wacthing Death Note, and, upon watching it, decided to give him Yagami as a last name simply for a fan refrence.

Xiikra's name being Kiira with an X - KH2 reference. That does not mean I am using nobodies in the fic (outside of a possibility for card form) just that I thought the name sounded cool.

Janken - The beginning of "Jan, Ken, Pon" japanese rock paper scissors. This is becuase he runs a luck-based deck.

The first arc's plot will be truly revealed nxt time we check up on Kiira. But, it's time to see what the second arc's villians are doing next chapter.

Stay tuned for: Chapter Four: Blood Runs Red – Versus the Dark Knights.

Chapter Four: Blood Runs Red – Vs. The Dark Knights!

A boy wearing a cloak walked into the dark room, only his mouth visible in the fading candlelight, the top half obscured by the hood. A smile formed, and pointed teeth were revealed as the boy bowed low.

“Master. It appears that he was successful. Not only did he manage to place one of the students under our control, but that student then defeated another one, who is ready to undergo the process.” A voice came from a figure hunched over a gigantic pentagram that was drawn on the floor of the empty room, a candle at each intersection.

“Excellent. Proceed with the process, and send our two followers to the next of the dorms, to give us agents there.” The boy nodded, and bowed away, turning to leave the room. Before he closed the door, however, he turned back and addressed the man kneeling on the floor.

“…Master? Should we supply them with different decks? The boy’s is only good for a one on one duel, after all.” The man stood up.

“Oh… that one, hm? Leave it, and let the boy be. Send the other one instead.” He commanded, and the boy bowed once more.

“Yes, master.”

---

Two cloaked figures walked down the halls of the Ra Yellow dorm. At a certain moment, the two of them split off, going in opposite directions without a word to each other. One was the way towards the girls’ rooms, the other the boys.

Lifting their wrist towards their mouth, on figure spoke into a communicator hidden beneath their cloak. “I’m in position. Waiting for a disturbance.”

There was a snarl on the other side of the line. “Just knock on their door, and leave a note telling them where to meet you, stupid! I bet you’re even holding the communicator up to your mouth and everything. We already told you over a hundred times that it works just fine from waist level!”

The boy dropped his head in shame. “B-But… it looks cool…” He complained, and the voice snapped at him. “It looks suspicious! We purposely made the hearing range larger so that nobody would do that and draw any more attention to themselves, but what do you do?”

The boy turned off the transmitter, and scribbled something on a piece of paper, before tucking the pencil back into his pocket. Knocking on the door, he reached out to place it on the object, but was surprised when it opened, replacing the spot he had meant to put it with someone’s forehead.

‘Crap.’ And he disappeared into the shadows as a boy started shouting at him.

Over at the girl’s side of the dorm, things went relatively smoother as the girl in a cloak put the note on the door first, then knocked and escaped into the shadows.

---

In a field near the dorm, four kids stood in a field, two standing across from two others wearing cloaks. The duelists activated their duel discs, and the first boy glared angrily at his cloaked counterpart.

“Just tell me. Why is it so important that you had to wake me up in the middle of the night and tape paper to my forehead in order to come here and duel you.” The boy shrugged.

“I was merely following orders… except the taping the paper to your forehead. That was an accident. We were instructed to duel the two of you at this time and in this place. So, we did. We would have merely sent you a message, but we did not receive our orders until one hour and seventeen minutes ago.”

BLP: 4000

GLP: 4000

His feminine partner smiled. “Prepare to lose more than a duel, Lea H. and Michael. N.”

MLP: 4000

LLP: 4000

“This will be a double duel, or 2 versus 2 match. The teams will be the two of us versus the two of you, for a Darkness Game Penalty.” The girl stated, and all four duelists drew their starting hand.

An orb of darkness expanded over the dueling field, and The boy’s hood fell off, his grey hair waving wildly in some unseen wind, and his blue eyes tainted with madness. “Let’s Duel! Shadowgame!”

Michael stood perfectly still. He had just been asking about Darkness Games in class that day. “Because, in many variants of the Darkness Game, the most notable being the variations of Shadowgame, the loser of the duel, loses their soul.” The boy looked at his crazed opponent, and the emotionless girl.

“So…” He started to say, unsure of how to ask the question. “We’re dueling for a punishment game, correct? Or will you try to… I don’t know… take our souls, or something?” The crazy boy ignored his question, but the female member of the team responded.

“Your souls are valuable enough, even if you cannot beat us. You will not become a lifeless doll from this match… because we need you for other purposes.” Michael thought back, trying to remember exactly what his teacher had said about punishment games.

“Is there no other end to a Darkness Game?” He asked.

People on the receiving end of a Punishment Game are typically turned into slaves that cannot disobey their ‘masters’.”

Lea was shaking. Losing souls? This was just supposed to be an ordinary duel – albeit one really late at night. There was no mention of losing their souls.

“What if we don’t want to duel?” She asked, and the insane boy turned to her.

“You fool! You already are dueling! Quitting now would be an automatic forfeit, and the punishment game would be carried out! AHAHAHA! I wouldn’t be surprised if we were allowed to take your soul if you’re too cowardly to duel – how would someone like that help us?!” The random maniacal laugh in the middle of talking only lent to prove what they both thought. That kid should be locked up in a mental institution.

“I’ll go first! I summon the great dragon, Hell Ryu! There’s nothing you can do!” A white dragon appeared on the field, red markings drawn all over it’s back in a runic pattern. (1900/1000)

“One facedown, and your demise begins! End turn!” There was a red glow over the two duelists, and they both fell to the ground, panting. (MLP: 3500) (LLP: 3500)

“What… the heck… was that?” Michael panted, feeling drained for an unknown reason.

The insane duelist laughed at him. “My Hell Ryu deals you five hundred points of damage when I end my turn! Of course, I’ll take 1000 if you destroy it, but that’s not going to happen!”

Pulling the top card off his deck, Michael set a card facedown, and summoned a monster in attack mode. It was a man holding a double bladed Katana, and he had a symbol emblazoned on the back of his black jacket.

“Meet Rebel Guild Leader - Alphonse!” Michael said, and the monster gave him a small nod. (1700/1400)

“Then, I’ll activate the spell card Secrecy Strike! Until the end of the turn, my monster gains four hundred attack points for each face-down card on my side of the field!” (1700/1400) - (2100/1400)

“So what.” The girl said. “It’s a waste of a card. After all, you cannot attack this turn anyway.” Michael smiled in response watching as his monster swung the blade through the white dragon, shattering it. (BLP: 3000)

The crazed boy didn’t seem to be effected by the loss of life points, despite that half the amount had sent both of his opponents to their knees. “My monster can, once per turn, destroy any monster with less attack points than himself. He can’t attack during the turn that he does so, but that doesn’t matter anyway. I’ll end my turn with that.”

The girl drew her card rather airily, as if she didn’t really care what it was. “I’ll summon my Rune Goddess, in attack mode.” The monster that appeared was small, as far as humanoid monsters go, ad had wavy hair that was so black it almost appeared blue. There were also dark blue streaks that were in her hair, helping to lend to such an appearance. Piercing green eyes and a bright white robe stood out, and Michael felt what could only be friendliness coming from the monster. (1600/2000)

‘Too bad something like that gets used for evil…’ He thought. Lea seemed to be calmed by the appearance of the monster, and felt better about the duel.

“It’s effect allows me to roll a dice. Depending on which number comes up, a different effect activates. A giant die began rolling in the air, and Runic symbols appeared on the monster’s dress glowing faintly.

The dice slowed down, coming to a stop on a one. “One, hm? That’s fine. One monster on the field is destroyed,” Alphonse blew apart in a flare of light. “And every player takes damage equal to half it’s attack points, unless they can discard a monster with more attack points than the damage they would receive.”

All the players slid a card from their hand into the graveyard except for the insane boy, who merely laughed as he was engulfed by a wall of flames. (BLP: 2150)

“What was the point of that? You only hurt your teammate.” Lea stated, and the girl shrugged. “Fate. The roll of the dice decided the effect. Now if you’d quit talking, I’ll end with two face-down cards.”

Lea drew, and placed one card on the field. A monster appeared, shining brightly, and quite probably in an attempt to outdo the Rune Goddess. “Chibi Hero Sparkman is my choice!” (800/700)

Michael nearly facefell. “Why would you use cards like that?! The Elemental Heroes are already weak enough, but you chose to get ones with HALF THE STATS?!”

“Hmph. Someone’s cranky.” Lea commented, and placed a facedown card. “Sparkman, attack directly!” The insane kid turned away from the flash of light, as his life points tricked down more. (BLP: 1350)

“It’s my turn now! I’ll summon Blood Slime, in attack mode!” A blob of red goo appeared on the field. (?/?) “My Blood Slime’s attack points are equal to the difference between our life points!” He stated, and the monster swelled to a massive size. (5650/0)

“Now, Blood Slime, attack the Chibi Hero Sparkman, and eliminate her from this game!” He shouted, and the monster slowly made it’s way over to the small E-Hero and crushed it. (LLP: 150)

“How did you?!… The trap card!” The boy scowled.

“Chibi Force is a continuous trap that reduces the ATK of any monster that battles with a Chibi monster by 1000 during damage calculation. I managed to hold on because of that.” Michael turned to his teammate, and smiled. They could pull this off with his facedown card, providing that she didn’t lose the duel right now.

“Now, I activate the effect of Chibi Hero Bubbleman! It allows me to special summon him if I have no other monsters on my field.” She then placed the monster onto the field, it striking a ‘heroic’ pose, but couldn’t be taken seriously due to it’s Chibi appearance. (400/600)

Michael drew, adding the new card to his hand with a look of interest. ‘This card will help out later. I need to play something to defend Lea with first.’

“I summon the Rebel Guild Member - Roy!” Michael announced, his monster appearing on the field. This one, like it’s predecessor, had black pants and a black jacket, with the same symbol on the back. However, this man had spiky bright red hair. (1400/1200)

“As long as Roy is on the field, I can choose your attack targets.” He explained, and placed two cards facedown.

“It’s all right with me!” The boy shouted. “I’ll just crush your monster before I eliminate her, then!”

“I’ll draw. Rune Goddess prevents me from summoning if she is on the field. I activate the spell card Wrath of the Goddess. It destroys your monster at the cost of one thousand life points.” (GLP: 3000)

As soon as she finished explaining the card, Chibi Hero Bubbleman blew apart. “Now attack her. Cast her into the darkness…”

The attack never hit, as the beam of light was deflected by a wall of bubbles. “During the turn Chibi Hero Bubbleman is destroyed, I may negate one instance of damage.” Lea gave her opponent a taunting smile, and the dice began to roll again.

“Let’s see you survive the turn anyway.” The girl said, and the dice stopped on a three. “My monster gets to attack again.” The beam of light was once again deflected, however, and Lea slid a Kuriboh into the graveyard.

“…Fine.” The girl said, sounding bitter.

Lea drew, looking for something that could save her.

“I’ll summon the Chibi Hero Defender, in defense mode!” (50/1350)

The girl sighed. “You have those lame versions of both the Elemental and Destiny Heroes, don’t you?” She asked, though she clearly knew the answer.

“Yep! They have better effects in exchange for less points, so I decided to go with them. For example, My Defender can’t be destroyed in battle!” Michael sighed in relief. Despite how powerful his Blood Slime was, it couldn’t get past Defender, and that was all he’d allow it to attack. Things were looking up.

“Is in my turn?!” The crazed boy said, somehow managing to sound bored, despite how he shouted everything he said. Lea just nodded.

“Fine! I’ll draw! …I activate the spell card, Mystic Wok! I’ll gain the life points of my Blood Slime, now!” The monster disappeared into a giant pot, and the boy’s life points soared. (BLP: 3650)

“I can only summon this monster when I offer another as a tribute - meet my Death Slime, in attack mode!” (?/?) The new slime looked like a black version of the previous Blood Slime, which quickly grew to the same enormous size. (2300/0)

“My Death Slime’s attack points are equal to that of the tributed monster - powerful, yes, but usually very hard to play! After all, it’s not every day I’ve tributed a monster without a tribute summon, and one powerful enough to be worthwhile, at that! But now… I’ve found the way to keep a strong monster on the field, no matter how many life points I have!” The boy went into a fit of insane laughter, and the girl chuckled at him, the first sigh of a true emotion she had displayed.

“I… I recognize that voice now…” Lea said, looking haunted. “…Aria?”

The girl took down her hood, revealing her face. It was her. “Not quite… Aria left some time ago. But don’t worry - I’ll keep you company until she gets back.”

“What happened to Aria?!” Lea practically screamed.

“She lost her soul. It still inhabits this body, form time to time, but no longer is she the dominant mind.” The girl who had been Aria gave a dark chuckle.

“You see, that what happens when you lose. The dark part of your mind is strengthened, taking on a mind of it’s own, while your original soul rots away, slowly losing more and more control… It’s not as quick as the shadow game’s quick yanking out of your soul, but it leaves behind something that our masters want - someone who is perfectly obedient. The perfect slave.” She explained.

“Wait - you know you’re being used, and you aren’t going to do anything about it?” Michael asked, not quite getting it.

“Of course not!” The boy shouted. “This is what we want - what we were born to do! Souls engulfed in darkness want nothing more than to drag others into the shadows as well!” If that is what our masters want, we’re more than happy to oblige!” Both Michael and Lea stepped back. This was out of their hands… they were clearly insane.

“I activate Slime Feast! By paying half my life points, I may destroy one monster on your side of the field, and summon Slime monsters of the same level! I destroy your defender to summon Hunger Slime!” A ball of yellowish slime appeared on the field, quickly devouring her Chibi Hero. (800/0) (BLP: 1825)

“Usually I can destroy a much higher cost monster, and summon a lot of Hunger Slimes, but you were lucky this time! I activate the continuous spell card Slime Transfusion! By tributing Slime monsters, I can add their attack points to the ATK of another Slime monster on the field! I offer my Hunger Slime to increase the attack of my Death Slime!” (3100/0)

The yellow and black slimes merged, becoming a larger version of the black slime. Michael blanched - this wasn’t looking good. “Re…remember! I still get to choose your attack targets!” He said, suddenly realizing how little that was worth now.

“I’ll activate my Slime Blow spell card! This will double the attack of a slime on the field, but after it attacks it is destroyed, and I lose half my life points!” (6200/0) “Now - will you sacrifice the girl, or will you lose in her stead? Attack, Death Slime!”

The tension of the moment was getting to him. It was like that question where if there was a group of people tied to railroad tracks, and a train was coming at them, and there was a person tied to the other railroad tracks, what would you do? Could you save several people by taking the life of another? For him, it was very similar. Could he live with himself if he directed the attack to Lea? It was the sensible thing to do, but ethics got in his way. He had made up him mind.

“Death Slime! Attack Roy now!” Michael shouted.

‘Aria’ smiled. “Trust the good guys to do the noble thing, instead of the smart thing.” She said, as the boy just laughed.

(MLP: 0)

He fell over, his mind becoming foggy, his thoughts blank. “Michael?!” Lea shouted. “Michael!” He gave no response, of course, but wouldn’t have had the energy left to respond even if his mind had been able to hear the girl‘s cries.

The slime exploded, as Les wiped the tears from her eyes. It was hard to see a friend ‘die’. Despite the fact that he would be awake the next day, he’d never be himself again. (BLP: 913)

“It’s my turn…” Lea said drearily. “I’ll draw, and summon Chibi Hero Doom Lord.” (300/200) “I will also activate the spell card Chibi Rebirth. This allows me to special summon two Chibi monsters from my graveyard at the cost of half my life points.”

(LLP: 75)

The Chibi Heroes Defender and Bubbleman joined Doom Lord on the field. “Hoping to stall?” ‘Aria’ said. “It won’t work. If that’s the best you have, then just give up now.”

Lea glared over at her best friend with hatred in her eyes. “I’m not done yet. By tributing three monsters, I can special summon the Chibi Hero Dogma.” The three monster turned into a black mist, reforming as the Destiny Hero Dogma in chibi form. It would have been threatening, had it been… well… not chibi. (1700/1400)

“When Dogma is special summoned, my opponent’s life points are halved.” She said, and a black aura began to glow around the two dark duelists. (BLP: 457) (ALP: 1500)

“Now, Dogma! Honor Michael’s sacrifice! Attack him directly!” The boy stared over at the monster in disbelief, as it’s bladed arm slashed right through him. (BLP: 0)

Drawing her card, Aria frowned as her teammate passed out. “I think you’ve gone far enough. I activate the spell card Flames of the Goddess. This will deal you one thousand points of damage. You lose.” (LLP: 0)

And with a startled gasp, Lea fell to the ground, unconscious.

The nameless boy who's second persona is similar to Marik's. I did not explain what happens to people like that when they lose.

His second persona has been erased in the same manner as it was created. Becuase his first persona was still loyal to the shadowmage behind all this, however, he is still an antagonist. You just won't see the Marikish persona until he is defeated again.

Next Chapter - Chain of Memories, Part One. (Kiira)

Chapter Five

Kiira's past is finally explained, as well as Xiikra's true intent.

I don't think it will be as long as the other chapters, but I won't know until it's written. Itill be a bit boring as this is where the background info that the reader needs to know appears.

Also, you will see the character who I had named my account after - despite him being only an idea up until now. Aozora. He's probably going to be the weirdest one to write, and I know his deck is going through some changes as I type this.

Although the title for the chapter says part one, that has to do with the fact that I'm labeling all backstory chapters that take place in someone's mind "Chain of Memories, Part ----." then the character's name in parenthesis.

Chapter Six - Kagezora, the Shadowed Skies - Rise of a New Evil!

This chapter will most likely be the most confusing for anyone who doesn't have some knowledge of the game Kingdom Hearts. It's not crucial to the story that you know about it, but it help to know where I'm getting the idea from. Probabyl the logest chapter I'll be writing for a while, and I might split it into two parts.

Becasue it's a short, non-dueling chapter, I have already finished the next chapter it's why I had two chapter previews - I knew the fifth chapter would be done in an instant.

Chapter Five: Chain of Memories (Kiira)

“Big brother, teach me to be as good as you!”

“Niisan! Please? I want to play!”

“Do you think I can ever be that good, Xiikra?”

The voices swarmed inside Kiira’s head, a sort of white fog accompanying them. It was younger versions of his own voice, never ceasing their comments towards Xiikra. They wanted to be near him, to be with him…

But he was shunned every time.

‘He doesn’t care about me. Not at all…’ Kiira thought.

“Please, brother! Why do you always ignore me!”

“Oniisan! I want to come, too!”

“Xiikra, answer me!”

The voices became desperate, and he could hear the change. His voices that hovered around him were slowly going through all his times that he wanted to be near his brother, the times that had disappeared as of late.

One voice that was not his own cut through the slowly aging voices.

“Leave me alone, little brother.” Kiira mentally smiled, and was shocked by it. He had covered up his pain at his brother’s hands with smiles, pretending to get along with him, pretending it didn’t matter to him.

He had become so used to it that, even in this endless white space, he would still smile just to protect himself from the pain.

“I attack directly with Superior for game. …you need to get a lot better, Kiira, before we duel with actual duel disks. You’ll only needlessly hurt yourself.”

Kiira winced. That particular memory was rough. His best friend, Aozora, had given him card he had collected based on Kiira’s favorite video game for Christmas, and also as a sort of going away present, he had taught him how to duel.

That Christmas, after Aozora had moved, Kiira had challenged his brother, who was sporting new cards himself. Kiira knew them well - the antagonists to his favorite game, the cards that rivaled his.

With the confidence that Aozora had given him, he had challenged his brother, and lost. Horribly. He had lost a lot of his confidence that day, along with his reason for trying. His grades began slipping, and he was diagnosed with depression.

His parents attributed it to his closest childhood friend moving away. They could never suspect Xiikra, their ’perfect’ son.

Rage welled up in him, and spots of the infinite white began to turn black.

It was only through his defeat that he had found his new purpose in life. He would surpass his brother. He would beat him so thoroughly that their parents could never again call him ‘second-best’.

‘I can’t believe it… since I met Janken, since I started to get more friends, I had completely forgotten about it. Defeating him… is the reason I exist.’

The white area was now covered with black spots, resembling Swiss cheese. More and more appeared, as they became larger and larger.

“You can’t defeat anything with so little power. Find true strength in rage, sadness, and despair, then – come see me again. It will be a more interesting battle.”

Xiikra’s voice cut through the growing tension, and all hell broke loose upon the landscape. The spots doubled in number, increasing by the second. The once infinite white void had become nearly overwhelmed by the black spots.

“Damn you Xiikra!” He shouted, the words vanishing into the emptiness of his mindscape. All his other, younger voices immediately stopped talking incessantly, and silence reigned for a few minutes.

“I will not lose.”

A voice said, slightly distorted sounding. It was his current voice, obscured by some unknown power, coming unbidden to his mind.

“I will find the power necessary to win. Anywhere, and at any cost.”

Kiira felt his mental defenses weakening. At first he wouldn’t have agreed with the statement, but he felt more and more like the one who had said it as the seconds passed.

“Xiikra will fall. And I will take his place, on my rightful throne as king. The Kaiser of Duel Academy.”

Kiira’s floating body opened it’s eyes in shock, staring straight into a pitch black, familiar face, yellow eyes glowing maniacally.

“Hello, Kiira.” The voice said, the new body floating above his speaking.

“Next time, we… you… will win.” There was no words to describe the horror he felt as this dark version of him spoke, and as he felt himself sink into the darkness.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kiira shot up in bed, looking at the covers. They weren’t that of his dorm room, and he started looking around. He was in the ‘hospital’, in the middle of the night. The nurse’s room.

He then remembered. He had passed out after his duel with Xiikra… no wonder they put him here. Standing up, he began to leave the room when something glinting out of the corner of his eye peaked his interest.

Walking over to the area he saw it in, he found nothing, save a mirror propped against the wall. Turning his head, the glint came again, and he quickly swiveled in place to look at where it had came from.

In the mirror, blindingly bright yellow eyes stared back at him as he raised his hand to his face in horror. ‘This is our time. Your time. Victory comes today.’

I stopped about halfway through the chapter because I found a good point. So what was originally the second part of Chapter Six will now be Chapter Seven.

WARNING: This chapter contains a drastic change in a character's personality. If you don't want to see Kiira become mean, don't read the rest of the first arc.

WARNING: This chapter contains a mysterious boy. If you don't like mystery, go somewhere else.

WARNING: This chapter contains more confusing things with duel spirits. If you want to wait until all this duel spirit usage is explained, you only have to wait until the next chapter.

Chapter Six: Kagezora - The Shadowed Skies. A New Threat Appears!

“Kiira! I’m glad you’re all right! But… What’s with the sunglasses?” Janken shouted excitedly, then went into a hushed whisper when asking the question.

“My eyes got light-sensitive. I’m not sure why, but I’ve been up since it was still dark out.” He replied, lacking the usual cheerful attitude that Janken knew Kiira for.

“Listen.” Janken said, noticing it, and feeling worried. “I know you got beat by your brother, but you’ll win next time, I’m sure of it.” He said, trying to make Kiira feel better.

His friend gave him a malicious smile. “I am, too. Next time - he goes down.”

Watching from a distance, their observer couldn’t help but notice the change in personality from the day before, when they had spoken to him before class. This Kiira didn’t act like the one he had met. After school, he decided. He’d duel him, and see what was going on.

“Class, your attention please. Today, we will be discussing different types of dueling strategy, as well as which kinds work well against others.” The teacher said in a monotone voice.

“First, name the five most basic types of deck strategy.” He paused for a moment, and a student raised her hand. “Yes, Miss Sumiko?”

The obelisk blue girl stood up, reciting from memory what had been no doubt drilled into her. “The five main types of dueling strategy are Beatdown, Control, Stall, Counter, and Destruction.” The professor nodded.

“Very good. Now, does anyone know what each of these types of strategy does?” Mitsugi Sumiko raised her hand again.

“Beatdown decks use high attack monsters, usually trying to overrun their opponent with them. Famous types of this are the Normal Beatdown and card sets like the Dark World deck, however that is based in several different areas.” Kiira frowned. This was a know-it-all type of girl, the kind that really infuriated him. Nothing was worse than a duelist who could only function off of rote memorization, in his eyes. It was all about the dueling spirit - he’d have to show her what that was.

“Control decks stop your opponent from using their cards effectively, messing up the opponent’s strategy. There is no known set that uses these type of cards, and control decks can be some of the most powerful types of decks imaginable. It is probably for this reason that there is no set that is based around it. Stall decks usually focus on meeting a turn requirement limit. Famous types of these decks are the Final Countdown decks, and Discard decks.” Kiira could barely stop from shouting at the girl. It was all he could do to keep his temper under control until her speech was over.

“Counter decks are defensive in nature, and thought to have stemmed off of Stall decks. They usually use a lot of trap cards, and so are weak to cards like Jinzo. Destruction decks are quite possible the riskiest deck to run, because they rely on being able to destroy the opponent’s cards. Dark World decks have some of this in them as well. Destruction decks are especially weak to Control decks and cards like Spell Canceller.” The girl finally sat back down, and Kiira breathed a sigh of relief. He could get through the rest of he class now - but she would pay the second he got a chance to duel her.

“Okay. Now…” the professor started, but Kiira was no longer paying attention.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Stop.”

The command rung out across the busy hallway, and everyone became very silent and still. Kiira walked up to the girl he had been annoyed with in class and stared her in the eyes, a threatening look on his face.

“You think you know everything about Duel Monsters, don’t you?” He asked in an accusatory tone, and an Obelisk Blue boy stepped in front of him.

“Back off, Ra. Know your place.” He said, and Kiira promptly grabbed him by the collar and threw him out of the way, displaying physical strength that even Janken had never seen before.

“Calm down, Kiira!” His friend pleaded. “You can’t just do that to people!”

The boy just ignored him, though, and Kiira turned back to Mitsugi. “I want a duel. Just to show you how bad you really are.” He stated. The girl, completely unafraid, pulled out her duel disk and placed the deck into the slot.

“Fine. But if you lose, you -” She started to say her demands, when Kiira dropped his shades, pulling out his duel disk and deck as well.

The girl was more than a little unnerved by his yellow eyes, along with the rest of the crowd who could see them. Janken didn’t notice, however, paying more attention to Kiira’s attitude than his eye color.

(MLP: 4000)

(KLP: 4000)

“Ladies first.” Mitusgi said, pulling the top card of her deck off, and sliding it into her duel disk. “I’ll activate the field spell Pandemonium!”

Kiira’s yellow eyes opened wide. He was not expecting her to run Archfiends. It didn’t really matter to him, it was merely surprising, that was all.

“Next I’ll summon the Shadowknight Archfiend, in attack mode!” (2000/1600) The monster was certainly threatening, that was for sure.

“I’ll set one card face down, and end my turn.” Kiira smiled. Finally.

“I draw! Rise, my Shadow Wielder!” At first glance his monster appeared to be the Keybearer that he was known for.

Janken glared at it intently. There was something… different about it. The monster spun to glare into Janken’s eyes, and he was met with an eerie yellow, and he stepped backwards in shock.

There was a pulse that went through the monster’s body, it became pitch black, and Janken realized what it truly was. He had played the game this creature, and the rest of Kiira’s cards came from. It was the dark reflection of the main character, and a card that he had never seen in Kiira’s deck. (1600/1500)

“My Shadow Wielder has a unique ability. When it battles with a monster, I can select one card in my hand and show it to you. It gains the level stars of that monster in ATK points, in increments of one hundred. So by showing you this card -” he turned one of the cards in his hand around to show that it was a level five monster.

“It becomes stronger than your Knight. Attack! Black Reflection!” The monster spawned a sword much like that of the Keybearer’s and sliced through the monster. (MLP: 3900)

“Hehehe…” Kiira whispered in a voice so low, that only those standing next to him, like Janken, could hear.

“I activate the effect of the spell card True Darkness. When a monster card is destroyed as a result of battle, and damage is inflicted to my opponent’s life points, I may add it from my deck to my hand.” Pulling the deck out of the slot, he looked through it, and pulled out the card.

“I end my battle phase and activate my spell. When True Darkness comes into play, I can summon three ‘Heartless Token’ to the field.” Three black bug-like creatures appeared, each with the same yellow eyes as his Shadow Wielder. (500/500 x3)

“Then I’ll play the spell card Shadow Shuffle. Once per turn I can take one monster card from my hand, shuffle it into my deck, and draw one card.” He placed the card he had shown Mitsugi on top of his deck, shuffled it, and drew a card.

“I end. It’s your move, Mitsugi…” He said, his voice starting to sound a little strange.

The girl nodded unsteadily. She had gotten a monster from her deck by the effect of pandemonium, but it was clear that it couldn’t help the situation at all.

“I activate my face-down card, Archfiend’s Roar. This summons back my Shadowknight Archfiend at the cost of five hundred life points.” With a roar that distracted all the students who were walking by, the monster took to the field. (MLP: 3400) (2000/1600)

“I now summon Terrorking Archfiend.” The new monster looked regal, despite it’s fiendish body. (2000/1500)

“I activate the spell card Double Check! By returning one monster on my side of the field to my hand, my Terrorking can attack twice!” The Shadowknight disappeared, being added back to the girl’s hand, and the King raised his sword into the air.

Kiira smiled as it cut through two Shadow Tokens, and his life points dove. (KLP: 1000)

“When I lose three thousand or more life points in one turn, I may add this card from my deck to my hand.” he said, and he pulled another card from his deck.

“I set two cards, and end.” Mitsugi stated, and Kiira laughed as he drew his card.

“I’ll draw. I now activate another spell card, True Darkness. This will allow me to summon three more Heartless tokens.” (500/500 x3) As the field filled up with the creatures, Kiira slid another card into his duel disk.

“I activate the Ultimate Darkness Ritual. By offering a number of Heatless Tokens with levels equal to that of my monster, I may perform a Ritual Summon for a very specific monster.” The four creatures sunk into the ground, their combined shapes forming a large black spot. The room began to drift apart as a giant being rose up from the concentrated shadows.

“I ritual summon the shadow of the true light - Darkside!” A giant humanoid monster made of pure darkness stood on Kiira’s side of the field. Where it’s chest should be there was a giant part carved out, in the shape of a heart. (3000/2500)

“No… no way…” Mitsugi breathed, her mind resonating with the duel spirit, and sensing the danger of such a card. “Who would use something like that?” She quietly asked herself, feeling a cold wave sweep over the hallway, which the holograms had made drift apart, to make room for such a massive creature.

“When Darkside is on my field, I may normal summon Heartless Tokens.” The giant being now had a small companion come up form out of the floor, and it glared hungrily at the girl. (500/500)

“Now… I reveal an eight star monster from my hand to increase my monster’s attack points.” (2400/1500) The dark wielder pulled out it’s blade once more, diving for the Terrorking Archfiend, who jumped back from the attack, dodging it completely. Kiira’s monster, annoyed, slammed it’s key into the ground as it fell, spinning off of it, and kicking the girl in the side.

“Not so fast. I activate the trap card Gambit, allowing me to send another card on my side of the field to the graveyard to stop the destruction of an Archfiend monster. The damage still goes through, though.” She said, explaining the actions. (MLP: 3000)

There was a short period when Mitsugi thought that she would survive the turn. It was immediately discarded once his next monster moved to attack.

“Darkside, destroy the Terrorking Archfiend!” With an earth-shattering blow, the titan crushed the other monster, and Kiira’s life points began to fall. (KLP: 500) (MLP: 2000)

“When Darkside successfully attacks, my life points are halved.” He explained. “But that harsh price comes at a good effect. When he destroys a monster, it is converted into a Heartless.” A pitch-black version of the destroyed Archfiend appeared on his side fo the field, yellow eyes locking with his former owner’s. (2000/0)

“Now, my Heartless! Attack her directly for game!” The monster rushed towards Mitsugi, slashing her with it’s claws - it’s sword was nowhere to be found. (MLP: 0)

The hologram generators shut down, and the duel disks returned to their standby mode.

“If you know so much, Miss Mitsugi, What deck was I using, and under which type is it classified?” He taunted, and haughtily walked off, Janken hesitantly following behind.

“There is no way that kid’s a Ra.” One boy commented. Kiira’s stalker scowled - this was exactly what he’d feared. Kiira had become vengeful again… it would have to be his duty to stop him.

------------------------------------------------------------

On the other side of the ocean, a boy’s cell phone rang. “Hello?” He asked, and an unfamiliar voice greeted him.

“You need to go to duel academy, now.” The boy turned, looking at the phone, puzzled.

“Why? What’s so important there?” He asked, and the voice dripped smugness as it replied.

“It’s about your friend, Kiira.”

--------------------------------------------------------------

“Kiira, what was with you back there? Where did you get those cards?” Janken asked, and Kiira just ignored him and kept walking.

“Kiira, answer me!” Janken practically shouted, but his friend still ignored him.

After a few moments, he stopped walking. “Janken. It’s none of your business where I get my cards. Now just leave me alone.” He said harshly, and the boy just sat there in shock as the boy who used to be his best friend just walked away.

“Kiira… what’s happened to you?” He asked no one, but someone responded all the same.

“I believe there is something wrong with that boy because of his duel spirit.” The voice said. It belonged to a boy about Janken and Kiira’s age, wearing a green cloak over his Ra Yellow uniform.

“The Keybearer? How does this have anything to do with that card?” Janken asked, and the boy’s eyes lit up.

“Interesting… I could see the boy’s duel spirit hovering over him the entire time you talked to him, and I can assure you, it was not your aforementioned card.” he said, and Janken looked at him suspiciously.

“How come you can see duel spirits? And why do you talk so weird?” The boy shook his head, and turned his back to Janken.

“I don’t have time to answer your questions. I must assure my liege that no harm has come to the boy.” He said, and promptly ran off, leaving a very confused Janken behind.

I'm sorry, this chapter kinda got away from me, and, due to the amount of time that had passed, I had to cut it off midway... again.

Chapter Nine will start at their duel, I promise. Judging by the way the story's going, I think the first Arc will end at about chapter fifteen, and the main plot of the Arc will end at chapter thirteen.

WARNING: This chapter does not contain the Kiira vs. Aozora duel. Instead, I wrote two duels in before that, which I hadn't planned to do in the first place, but just came out of me when I wrote.

WARNING: This chapter contains of a lot of Dark World Fusion monsters being revealed as appearing in Mirden's deck, though only one is actually summoned. If you would like to submit ideas for DW Fusion monsters, then send them to me. I will give you credit.

WARNING: This chapter contains a DW Deck without Brron, Sillva, Goludd, or Regin-Beaux. If you would like to submit a fusion monster, please don't include these monsters in it.

Chapter Seven: Gateway to the Final Battle - Red Eyes and Dark World

A boy stepped off a boat, backpack slung over one shoulder. “Kiira…” He sighed. “I guess there’s only one way to find you on this island - make you come to me.” Determination came to his eyes as he said this, sure hat he could draw out his target.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

“I can’t believe I was beaten that easily…” an Obelisk Blue boy said, and the boy’s ears perked up. “I mean, he’s just a Ra! Where did he get cards like that from?!”

Another Blue turned to the two that were talking. “Kiira, right? He’s been going around, laying waste to anybody unfortunate enough to draw his attention. You were unlucky, meeting him. I mean, he shouldn’t be that good! Last year he moved up from Slipher, but you saw his duel at the beginning of the year! And that was only a week ago. It’s like after that duel, he just changed. He hasn’t been using his normal deck anymore, but where would he have got those cards?” The boy said, in a mixture of awe and confusion.

“You.” Their eavesdropper suddenly said. “I want to duel you. I want to see how much Kiira has changed.” He stepped forward, pulling out his duel disk, battle city model, as the three boys looked between themselves, trying to figure out who he was talking to.

“You. The one who lost to Kiira. What is your name?” He asked, and the boy got ready, pulling out his duel disk. At the academy, when people challenged you, you didn’t ask questions - you just accepted.

“I’m R Lowen.” He stated, slipping his deck into the slot.

“R? That’s your name?” The boy asked, slightly confused at his opponent’s lack of a real first name.

“Yeah - I think it was a cruel joke on my parents part, but I didn’t ever get to know them, because they died when I was little.” R explained.

The boy gave an apologetic face. “I’m sorry to hear that. My name… It’s Aozora.” The boy stated, and the two boys began to draw their cards.

ALP: 4000

RLP: 4000

“I’ll draw, and summon the Red-Eyes Black Chick - which allows me to offer it for the Red eyes Black Dragon!” (2400/2000) The near-legendary beast appeared on the field, and Aozora smiled. This meant that Kiira was strong enough to easily beat a Red-Eyes user. It would be a good battle, at the very least.

“I’ll end my turn with a face-down card.” He said. Aozora smiled, drawing his card.

“I’ll summon my old friend, the Keybearer!” (1600/1500) “Hey Aozora! You haven’t played me in a while. …Come to think of it, Kiira hasn’t either. I’ve been getting kinda bored.”

The boy stepped back in shock. “What do you mean, Kiira hasn’t played you? When I heard he was still using the deck I gave him, I assumed that he’d use it’s main card!” The Keybearer frowned.

“Something’s wrong… I could sense something wrong with him ever since he lost to his brother last week, and he hasn’t played me since. I think it’s really bad this time.” He informed him, and Aozora frowned.

‘So it’s true… Kiira really is depressed again. But he said that Kiira beat him - what deck could he possibly be using?’ He thought.

“Sorry, Keybearer… - I’ll activate the spell card Division!” The brown-haired boy looked over at his friend and nodded, before splitting into two different creatures. (500/500) (1300/1300)

“This spell card sends one ‘Keybearer’ to the graveyard to summon one ‘The 13 - The Key of Destiny’ and one Heartless Token. Both have ther ATK and DEF increase by 400. I now equip my monster with the equip spell Blade of Heart - Key of Void!” Two weapons appeared in the boy’s hands, the Oathkeeping Key, and the Oblivion Key. (2700/1800)

“This equip spell is treated as two ‘Blade of Heart’ equip cards, and increases “The 13 - The Key of Destiny’s” ATK by 1000, and defense by five hundred. Now, attack his Red-Eyes now, with Overtaker!” The dragon was quickly slicked to pieces by the dual blades, and R’s life points began to fall. (RLP: 3700)

“I activate my face-down card, Red-Eyes Spirit! This allows me to special summon a Red-Eyes that was destroyed back to the field!” R exclaimed, his trap card flipping face-up. (2400/2000)

“By tributing a monster, my Key of Destiny can attack again! Go, Overtaker!” The monster was once again sliced to pieces as the Heartless Token disappeared. (RLP: 3400)

----------------------------------------------------------

“I summon the Shadow Wielder.” (1600/1500) “By revealing a level six monster, it’s attack points increase to twenty two hundred. Now, attack directly, and end this poor excuse for a duel!” (BLP: 0, KLP: 4000)

“What’s wrong with you?! When did you become like this, Kii-” The boy was cut off as Kiira turned around and walked away.

“He’s becoming increasingly bad-tempered. The more he wins, the angrier he becomes… it’s going to continue to swell until he faces his brother again. I dread the thought of that day.” An onlooking boy said. Janken turned to him.

“Why do you keep showing up? It’s bad enough that Kiira’s acting like this, I don’t need your constant negative comments, too!” He nearly shouted. The boy smiled.

“I’m Mirden. How about this, you help me with my plan to restore Kiira to his normal state of being?” Janken paused, slightly confused as to why he put such weird wording at the end of his sentence.

“…Um, sure…? But when did you come up with this plan?” He asked, and Mirden laughed.

“Before I met you, and after I bumped into him before class. I assume you are familiar with his old friend Aozora, are you not? Well, I have called him over to this island - I could easily pay the fare… things are very inexpensive here.” Janken looked at him, confused. A teenager saying that a plane trip was inexpensive?

“What was the currency in your old country?” He asked, curious.

Mirden frowned. “That is unimportant. We have no time for such questions. I need to spread word about the island that a kid has arrived who is better than Kiira. That will certainly get his attention, and he will find Aozora on his own.” He pulled a book out from behind his back, and handed it to Janken.

“This contains all the details of the plan. Read it over, and begin to implement it, as I stall Kiira.” Janken flipped a few pages.

“Who’s the person who keeps writing comments in this?” He asked. Mirden froze.

‘M… my cousin. Anyway, I need to catch up to Kiira now. Wish me luck…” Running off in the direction Kiira had disappeared in, Mirden soon disappeared as well.

Janken looked back at the book, and a card dropped out of it. “What’s this? …Wait, how would he have gotten his hands on this card?”

-----------------------------------------------

“Kiira!” The boy turned around, seeing a slightly out of breath Ra behind him. “I have come here to duel you!”

Kiira laughed. “As if a mere Ra could hold up to me more than the Obelisk blues. You’re out of your league, kid.”

Mirden laughed at this point. “I know what’s happened. And I’d like to say, you’re just my kind of opponent.”

Kiira’s frown deepened. “Fine. Let’s duel.”

KLP: 4000

MLP: 4000

“I’ll go first, if you don’t mind. I now activate the spell card Dark World Dealings. We can both draw one card, then discard one card.” Kiira nodded, slipping his card into the graveyard.

“My discarded card was Beiige, Vanguard of Dark World! I now summon it to the field with it’s effect!” (1600/1300)

“Next is Zure, Knight of Dark World!” (1800/1500) “I’ll end with two face-down cards. That’s all for my turn.”

Kiira frowned at him. “Ah, so you use Dark World cards, huh?”

Mirden nodded. “Yes. In fact, my deck has never once lost. That is the power of Dark World.” Kiira made a face full of contempt.

“I remember those cards. Pieces of slime, every last one of them.” Pulling the top card off his deck, his yellow eyes shone with a malevolent light. “I summon the Shadow Wielder, in attack mode. Show him the power of true darkness, destroy his Zure!” (1600/1500) (2000/1500)

The shadowy creature leaped into the air, pulling out it’s dark sword and slicing through the knight. (MLP: 3800)

-------------------------------------------------------------------

“I activate the ritual spell card, Red-Eyes Transmigration! By offering one Red-Eyes Black Dragon with this card, I may summon ritual summon my Lord of the Red, in attack mode!” The monster appeared on the field, looking like a humanoid Red Eyes. (2400/2000)

“Weird card. It’s not even any stronger than the monster you offered for it.” Aozora commented, and the boy smirked.

“I’ll throw one face-down card, and end.” R said, a smile appearing on his face. He’d get him now… not like that Kiira. It wouldn’t end up the same, not this time.

“I draw! Here goes, Miracle Key! This spell card lets me draw one card for each card with ‘Key’ or ‘Heart’ in it’s name on my side of the field, and I count two! Then, I’ll summon my The 13 - The Flurry of Dancing Flames!” I man in a black trenchcoat similar to the one his other monster was wearing appeared on the field, his bright red spiky hair drawing R’s attention. (1300/800)

“Heh… you’ve lost now! I activate the spell card Shrink! This halves your Key of Destiny’s ATK until the end of the turn!” (1350/1800) Aozora stared at him, confused.

“You don’t know, do you? If two spell cards are activated in the same turn when Lord of the Red is on the field, he destroys all other monsters on the field except for himself!” Aozora cards shattered, and the boy’s eyes went wide.

“When that specific Blade of Heart is sent to the graveyard, I discard my hand and draw that many cards. That gives me a new hand of four to work with. I’ll summon back the Keybearer, with my spell card ‘I’ll Never Give Up!’.” He took the monster out of his graveyard, and placed it back on the field. (1600/1500)

“Now… I activate the Keycard of my deck! I play the spell card Birth By Sleep!”

Aozora made a dramatic pause as he placed the card on the duel disk.

“This card sends all monsters on my field to the graveyard. I then switch cards from my side deck with those in my deck, and special summon cards of the same level that contain the monster’s name in their effect text.” The Keybearer was suddenly swallowed up by what appeared to be a large white flower.

“Awaken, my hero of light! I summon to the field, ‘Keyblade’s Chosen’, in attack mode!” As the flower(?) opened up again, it seemed to be the same monster… only slightly older and wearing a black outfit. (1900/1800)

“When Keyblade’s Chosen is normal or special summoned, I may select one card in my graveyard with ‘Key’ or ‘Heart’ in it’s card name, and add it to my hand. I choose the equip spell Blade of Heart - Shooting Star, and equip it to my monster!”

R laughed. “That’s another two spell cards. Your monster is destroyed!”

The monster just stood there, completely unaffected. “I chose Shooting Star for a reason. My monster, when equipped with it, cannot be destroyed by card effects. It also increases the attack points of the equipped monster by 500. Meaning - attack! Destroy his Lord of the Red!” (2400/1800)

Both monsters seemed to blow apart, until the Chosen came out of the cloud of smoke, missing it’s new weapon. (1900/1800)

“When my Lord of the Red is destroyed in battle, I summon a Red-Eyes to take it’s place. So rise again, my Red-eyes Black Dragon!” (2400/2000)

Aozora sighed. “Now I know why that card is restricted. I’ll end my turn with one face-down. You’re a good opponent, R. But do you think you can still win?” He asked, and the boy looked at him, confused.

“I’m only losing by a few life points, and my monster is the stronger one. Shouldn’t you be asking yourself that? I’ll summon the monster Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands. His effect, when summoned, allows me to add a ritual spell or ritual monster from my deck to my hand.” A monster that had way too many arms for it’s own good appeared on the field and R added a card from his deck to his hand.

‘But… Lord of the Red is restricted. There’s no way he could ritual summon a second. So that means that the added card is Dark Dragon Ritual. It only makes sense - the Red-Eyes have two ritual monsters and three fusions, meaning unless he has some random card that deviates from his theme, that card will summon Knight of Dark Dragons. I’ll pretend I don’t know what he’s doing for now.’ Aozora thought.

“I won’t let you resummon your Lord of the Red that easily, you know!” He shouted, and R placed a card facedown.

“You don’t really think I’m that stupid, do you? You just commented on how it was restricted, and you expect me to think you don’t know what this ritual is? Yeah right.” Aozora rubbed the back of his head sheepishly, and his Duel Spirit, Keyblade’s Chosen, shook it’s head.

“Now, Red Eyes, attack his monster with Infeno Fire Blast!” The Chosen was engulfed by the attack, and Aozora was nearly knocked off his feet by the explosion. (ALP: 3500)

“N-Not so fast.” He choked out, coughing on the smoke.

The smoke cleared slowly, revealing the monster floating on it’s back in midair.

“My facedown, I’ll Never Give Up!, activates. By discarding my hand, I special summon ‘King of the Key’ in attack mode, and my Chosen takes shelter in my spell and trap card zone.” What appeared to be a mouse wearing the same coat as his ‘The 13’ monsters flipped out from behind him, landing in a dramatic pose, and pulling out a golden key-shaped sword. (2400/2000)

“When King of the Key is summoned, I equip him with his special equip card from wherever it exists. In this case it happens to be in my graveyard, discarded when I got a new hand. It doesn’t increase his attack points, but instead gives him a handy effect. Now, King of the Key, attack his Red Eyes with Gleaming Gold!”

The mouse jumped at the dragon, doing a midair spin with it’s weapon extended, and smashing straight through it’s skull, causing it to erupt in a shower of fragments.

“But… it was at the same attack - it should have been destroyed!” R said, slightly confused. He had never seen cards like these, even last year, when Kiira had used them the entire time.

“When special summoned by the effect of ‘I’ll Never Give Up!’, the King cannot be destroyed as a result of battle, and cannot inflict life point damage. So it was a simple matter to destroy your dragon. And when he destroys a monster, I can activate the effect of his weapon. I choose to shuffle the King into my deck, and special summon my monster from the spell and trap zone. So let’s give a warm welcome to the Keyblade’s Chosen!” (2200/2100)

The monster stood back up, feet returning to the floor, looking revitalized. “When my monster is summoned from the spell and trap card zone by this effect, he gains 300 attack and defense points. Now, attack his Manju! Kingdom Crush!” (RLP: 2600)

The boy stood up, having been knocked over by the shockwave. This kid might be as powerful as Kiira. He didn’t specialize in the same quick finishing tactics, but he was definitely up there. Working slower, more methodically. The only time he had a chance of winning was when he had been caught off guard by Lord of the Red’s effect. But the effect of his weapon had saved him…

Would he be able to win when he was at the top of his game? He needed a better deck. He needed that card, the third Red-Eyes fusion monster.

“I give up. You’re too strong for me. I can’t win yet.” (RLP: Loss by Forfeit)

Aozora gave a polite bow. “You were a good opponent. Maybe someday, you’ll have the same confidence in your deck as I have in mine. That’s the reason why you couldn’t have won.” He retracted his duel disk, and the holograms faded away, but he could still see the form of his monster, the Keyblade’s Chosen, The Keybearer.

Walking away, he stopped as the Keybearer suggested something to him. “Hey, R?” He asked, turning back around to talk to the duelist. “If you see Kiira again, tell him ‘Aozora is here.’ he’ll want to know, I’m sure.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------

“I’ll summon Cereul, Vizier of Dark World.” Mirden announced, and a creature in a light blue robe appeared on the field. (400/2000)

“Now, I’ll activate the continuous spell Meeting of the Dark World Army. This card, when activated, adds one of five Dark World monsters to my hand. I choose Gren, Tactician of Dark World. Now, every time you declare an attack, I add another of the five. I cannot discard or summon any of the five until the card is destroyed or I have all five in my hand. I’ll also activate Spell Chronicle. I select five cards from my deck, and every time we activate two spell cards, I get to add one to my hand - you get to choose which, of course. I choose to use the spell card Polymerization, the trap card Soul Fusion, the monster card Morphing Jar, the field spell card Fusion Sanctuary… and the counter trap Dark World Shield.” A scroll with five slots appeared on the field, and a table with a planning board appeared on the field, the monster Gren sitting down in a chair.

“Like those matter much.” Kiira said, and Mirden nodded.

“So, if you think so, you won’t mind that my Meeting of the Dark World Army places a spell counter on my Spell Chronicle.” He said, and Kiira shrugged.

‘Where was it?! I couldn’t find the card!’ Mirden panicked. ‘Calm down… I can win without it, I hope. Man, is he going to be pissed… I’ll have to ask my uncle - he could find it.’

“I’ll now set one face-down card, and end.”

“Finally. That explanation of your card was almost a lecture - and twice as boring. I’ll summon Red Nocturne, in attack mode!” I small red creature with a symbol of a heart on it appeared, floating in midair aimlessly. (800/600)

“Whenever a monster is normal or special summoned, my monster will deal you 300 points of damage. Now, I activate the spell card True Darkness, summoning three shadow tokens!” Mirden laughed.

“Are you so sure? I activate the effect of my Vizier. When a card activates, I can make it’s effect ‘your opponent discards their entire hand. They lose 500 life points for each card discarded.’ I cannot discard Gren, so that’s only one card. (MLP: 3300)

“Now, the effects of that card activate! Luud, Sniper of Dark World, when discarded from the hand by an opponent’s card effect, deal you one thousand points of damage, and he is summoned to the field.” A new Dark World card appeared, holding a large blood-red bow in his hands. He took aim at Kiira, and fired. (KLP: 3000) (800/600)

“That was almost impressive. However, you lose life points for summoning that monster, though.” His monster shot a fireball at Mirden, and he fell backwards. (MLP: 3000)

“Now, Shadow Wielder, attack his Beiige!” Once again the dark warrior sliced through his monster, and Mirden’s life points fell. (MLP: 2600)

‘He’s keeping it at two thousand by revealing four star monsters. But that can’t go on forever, as each monster can only be revealed once. That’s when I’ll win.’ “By the effect of my spell chronicle, you now choose a card for me to add to my hand!” He announced, drawing his card, and adding another monster to his hand with the effect of Meeting.

“You can have your Soul Fusion. It’s not like it’ll help you much - Dark World cards don’t have many fusions.” He stated, and his opponent laughed.

“If that’s true, why were almost all the cards I chose with Spell Chronicle fusion cards?” He asked, and set the trap face-down. “Now, Khakki comes to join Gren at the table.” Mirden said, referring to the card he had just added to his hand. Sure enough, a large a brutish Dark World monster lumbered over to the table, sitting in a chair that was at least twice as big as those made for other members. A custom job, no doubt, as he probably would have broken anything smaller.

Kiira drew his card, and smiled. “I activate Dark Rush. By sending one card on my side of the field to the graveyard, I may special summon Heartless Tokens in all available spots. I get rid of my useless True Darkness card, and summon them.” (500/500) (500/500) (500/500)

“I tribute one Heartless token to special summon Darkball, in attack mode.” A weird floating black ball-shaped monster appeared, looking hungrily at his last monster. (1500/1500)

“Attack, Darkball. Destroy his last monster.” Kiira commanded, and the thing smashed though Luud without any effort.

“I activate my trap card, Soul Fusion! At the cost of one thousand life points, I can fuse monsters in my graveyard! I fuse Zure, Knight of Dark World, and Luud, Sniper of Dark World to summon Violent, War Hero of Dark World!” the two monsters combined, and in a flash of light a large Dark World monster stood on the field, a flamberge by it’s side. (2500/1600)

“When Violent is summoned, I choose one monster on my opponent’s side of the field and destroy it! Say goodbye to your Shadow Wielder! Dark World Lightning!” The monster grabbed it’s weapon, hoisting it high above it’s head with one hand. A spiraling storm cloud gathered, blocking out the sky, and a bolt of lighting struck Kiira’s new signature monster, vaporizing it instantly.

“You’ll pay. My monster’s effect deal you 300 points of damage again, and I’ll switch all of my monsters to defense mode.” Kiira said, practically growling. (MLP: 1300)

“Good. I’ll draw, and my Meeting activates again. Beiige now joins my two monsters. Next, I’ll activate my spell card, Nightmare Clock of Dark World! The turn counter moves ahead two turns, and I discard a card. Prepeare for this, it’s going to be a long turn.” He teased, though completely serious.

“The monster I discarded was Celeri, Guru of Dark World. He is special summoned to your field in defense mode, and you randomly discard a card from my hand. Because you cannot select Khakki, Gren, or Beiige, that leaves you with only one card, Broww. I discard him, and draw two cards. Because the turn counter advanced by two my next two monsters come to the table, meet Scarr, Scout of Dark World, and Cobal, Executioner of Dark World. All five are now in my hand, so I can now use them. But first…” He glanced over at his Spell Chronicle Scroll.

“I choose Dark World Guard. I’m not letting you get any more fusions.” Kiira said, and his opponent nodded, placing it face-down.

“I now activate Card Destruction. You know what this does. The effects of all of my monsters now activate. Gren destroys your Dark Rush. Khakki destroys your Celeri. Beiige summons himself to the field. (1600/1300). Scarr and Cobal’s effects do not activate. Embarr, Cleric of Dark World’s effect activates, increasing my life points by 500.” (MLP: 1800)

“I win.” Kiira stated. “By discarding the card ‘Malfortune’ from my hand while the Shadow Wielder is in my graveyard, we both take damage equal to the attack points of one of your monsters. I choose your War Hero.” (KLP: 500) (MLP: 0)

Mirden was knocked backwards by the explosion of dark energy, and nearly lost consciousness. “Kiira… you are too strong for me… but I’ve found the one person who can beat you. He… he’s on this island. Ao-” And he blacked out.

Sure.

my chapters are often longer than I plan them - as the last two chapters and the one I'm currently writing were all suppoesed to be one chapter in the beginning.

Seeing how the epic my mind want's this duel to be, it may be the longest out of all the chapters, yet also the only one that is pretty much just straight dueling.

I may actually end up splitting the duel into two chapters, depending on how long it goes.

Kinda like when they split an episode into parts - it's just too long if you dont.

Anyway, I'll check out your story now.
