The U.S. Army's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy is now still in effect, sadly.

Discuss.

Telll me again, why didn't they repeal this?

Also, don't tell me the whole "OH, BUT IF TEH GAYZ IS IN TEH MILITARY, THEY WOULD BE HAVING BUTTSECKZ WITH OUR TROPZ AND TEH ENEMY!" bull cause then what about the women in the miltary and the women who are in the hostile area?

It's better to keep it this way. The heterosexuals who are complete idiots won't approve of homosexuals being active in the military, and there are more heterosexuals than homosexuals. While this doesn't mean majority rules, it does mean that we cannot lose a bunch of heterosexuals from the army.

Furthermore, this policy actually allows homosexuals to serve in the military. While they do have to be secretive about it, you can't change every idiot in the world. I wish we could, but that's not the case.

Also, if they repealed the policy, what would then happen? You'd have to force all the heterosexuals to stay in the military and accept the fact that homosexuals will be open about their sexuality. And they won't like that. Not one bit.

It should be abolished.
The amount of people not being themselves and living with the fear of being "discovered" is sad.

About the soldiers, I bet most of them don't really care, they're just afraid of being targeted.
Lifting those kind of bans is hard since people are cowards.

This reminds me of that brilliant argument back in the sixties about how equal rights for blacks shouldn't be passed because then whites would be mad about not being able to exclude blacks.

I see where you are coming from, but back then, what could the whites have done if blacks got right? Not much of anything, except baww a little.

Here, if we let homosexuals be open in the military (their lucky that they are actually allowed to join), all the idiot heterosexuals will get pissed and do something about it. They'll leave, tearing a pretty large hole in our army. I don't know what percentage of our heterosexual army is mentally retarded, but we'll have to replace those people somehow.

Openly gay soldiers have no effect on how they fight in war.
It will. It will piss off the heterosexual soldiers who are prejudiced against gays. If I'm in the army, I don't care if you're a straight American, a gay American, a black American, or an Asian American. Everybody in the army shares one thing in common- they're AMERICAN. They shouldn't be focused on what divides them, but rather on what brings them together.

So if you aren't American you can't be in the American army?

=O

Yeah, but it's natural for mentally retarded heterosexual idiots to discriminate against gays, and thus refuse to fight in the army or do something that causes more trouble than white people bawwing about black people. Don't Ask, Don't Tell allows gays to serve in the army legally (although if they are found out it's illegal, which is bullshit), so I don't see the problem. Until we fix the brains of those morons, this is really the only way to go about letting gays in the army.

Congress shall make no law... abridging the freedom of speech... nor shall be deprived of liberty without due process of law...

I don't care if it hurts morale. It's unconstitutional.

Also, they're American, they're willing to die for America, or they just really, really need a job.

I fully understand your point, I feel that Don't Ask, Don't Tell was stupid in the first place. BUT YOU ARE DEALING WITH JUDGMENTAL IDIOTS. You cannot force people to be enlisted in the army (except drafting, but there are still loopholes with that), so if the heterosexual idiots leave the army that becomes a serious problem. We really have nowhere to turn: we either have to let gays enlist in the army secretly or not let them enlist at all, for now at least.
