Great Unclean One: VK
WHY THE f*** IS RUGBY IN AMERICA CALLED FOOTBALL, AND FOOTBALL IS CALLED SOCCER? I don't know how many times I've argued this with my brothers, but they always stick to their defense, saying that "Well, it's because football came first, and soccer came later." Discuss. Also, discuss rugby and football.

Death Metal
Geez... Who cares? It's a damn sport. D; EDIT: orite... we are suppose to discuss them. I watch American Football sometimes. It's entertaining... although it takes place during the fall/winter seasons. I'd rather be outside during my favorite time of the year instead. <
~/Coolio Prime\~
You are such a derp. Rugby is called Rugby wherever you are. Soccer is called soccer in America because we had already named a sport football, as it is a rather unoriginal title the term football had already come to apply to English football. Sorrow.
... Your brothers are correct and you are left the imbecile, Rugby and American Football are different sports, I know they use the same type of ball but Football is called Football not Rugby because NFL players do not wear those silly leather hats, GIR (Get it Right) I love to watch NFL games, something about football makes me love it. You cannot declare yourself a man unless you watch Football, Go Chargers..
CrabHelmet
Soccer is actually derived from British slang; "association football" was abbreviated "assoc", which was corrupted into "soccer".

JG.
Agreed, most of the earths population can agree on calling it football, but Amercica thinks it's so great (it isn't) and gives it a name that sounds like some gay sex-assisting product. .Starrk
@JG I am American, and I think it should be called football over here. But some pricks came up with a primitive sport of tackling, and called it football.
Daft Innovation
I consider American Football to be Tackleball, makes more sense. Soccer should be Football, because you only ever use your feet.
~/Coolio Prime\~
Football has applied to many sports over the years. In fact, VK isn't entirely incorrect in calling rugby football as it was once referred to as a division of football(he's foolish for mixing it up with soccer in the first place). So the only real issue is that two sports named as such happened to stand to test of time.
