I have been a Final Fantasy fan since I played Seven, thirteen years ago. After that game I managed to get hold of imported versions of one - six and my love for the series just grew. So, as Seven is my favourite of the series, I decided (Despite all the others) to make the cards how I think they should be played. So rate, comment, hate or love but please leave something constructive :)

So, as Seven is my favourite of the series [...]
May I start the flamewar? Oh... wait, this is not about which Final Fantasy is the best? Damnit!

Okay, jokes aside, down to buisness ;)

First of all: Why "Avalanche"? Only 3 of the characters were in the organization (2 if you don't count Cloud, who never really joined)... not a huge issue, but it bugs me a little.

Another minor issue: Cloud has such a selfless effect, yet he's... not that selfless at all. I mean, okay, we're not talking about Squall here, but he's still more selfish than the rest of the bunch... and yet you make him DARK... mind explaining this? It's just, I'd like to know what your thoughts are.

Anyways, I like the idea of Materia Counters, partly reflecting on the gameplay (you could now try to insert weaponry and connect the Materia's with them to make it even more authentic, but this is the more efficient way I guess). Simple, but effective, that also goes for most of the effects. I personally prefer the long, tedious effects that also reflect not only on that characters skills, but also on their personality, but that's something you have to decide for yourself. Especially Zack, as the ace of this set, could've used a little more effect love, just making him an Ancient Gear with ATK gain doesn't cut it, imo.

Still, the set flows pretty well, the effects work together, centering on an interesting theme that I'd personally like to see more of... so keep them coming ;)

So long,

Spoon

We can have Flamewar some other time :P

All valid questions, and I will answer them as best I can.

They are named Avalanche for two reasons the first being, I wanted something that caught the eye of people, and Avalanche does just that. It ties all of the cards together name wise which is something I like. I could have called them all 'Defenders of the Earth' but it just sounds cheesy and wrong lol.
The second reason being that in Cosmo Canyon, Barrett declares that he would still save the world with, as he puts it 'The new Avalanche' and it was that single line which gave me the idea of giving them all that name. I'm all up for naming them something else, suggestions?

The Cloud issue was one that I went over so many times in my head. As a character he evolves and changes so much throughout the story and to reflect this other people have different 'versions' of Cloud in card form and this, I didn't want to do; I wanted my FF cards to be different. So, I was faced with the dilemma of trying to portray both of Clouds sides, the dark and selfish version that he was and the light, caring version that he evolves into. So, it was more of a personal choice than anything.

With Zack, I didn't want the overall goal of the set to change as it's about using the Materia counters and spells to control the field and making Zack overly powerful would change that. I'm open to suggestion, so if you have any views on what he should be, then please let me know.

Well, I hope that clears a few things up and thank you for your comment.
