Matt Bahamut's Starlight Zone Defenders Deck

Well here we go again, my 4th Archtype Set on YCM. This one is finished despite only 10 cards being available to view now, I just need some pics for the others.

This Deck contains an archtype known as 'Starlight Heroes', a team of magic wielding warriors who serve as enforcers of law and order across the universe. Each hero is named after a major star in the solar system. The main concepts of this set are the heroes fight to protect each other and gain strength in numbers, needing two of them on the field to activate their powerful abilities. A lot of their ordered structure comes across in their cards, such as a lot of Deck-order effects, and uniform stats for each Level (rank) of hero. The heroes can also combine a Tuner and a non-Tuner to summon a powerful Synchro Monster. This is my first attempt at a Synchro Deck, cards which I never used before so this is mostly new ground for me. The archtype has it's own Field Spell, 'Starlight Zone', which works in a 'United We Stand' way (but in an a way that doesn't contradict itself :) ) and that in turn can bring out the set boss, 'Starlight Dragon'.

Lore: All 'Starlight Hero' monsters gain 300 ATK and DEF for every other 'Starlight Hero' on the field. If a 'Starlight Hero' is destroyed by a card effect, you can send it to the bottom of your Deck instead of the Graveyard. You can Tribute this card and all 'Starlight Hero' monsters you control to Special Summon 'Starlight Dragon' from your Extra Deck.

Lore: You can only activate this card while 'Starlight Zone' is on the field. During the End Phase of a turn this card destroyed a monster in battle, you can Tribute this card to inflict Damage to your opponent's Life Points equal to the number of 'Starlight Heroes' in your Graveyard x 500.

It's pic is actually Junk Warrior, an excisting card. Otherwise a ballanced support card.

It's pic is blurry, it's ok besides that.

[b]Mira[/b]
Powerfull Support, not much more I can say about it.

Not bad, though the pic is way to blurry.

Well I think it might be a bit OPed, but seeing as there are hardly any Starlight Hero's, I think I can let it be.

[b]Zone[/b]
Blurry Pic. Beside the summoning effect a pretty basic Field Spell. Though I hope "Starlight Dragon" isn't that powerfull, because you can easily just Tribute 1 monster to Summon it then.

[b]Future Starlight Summon[/b]
Good Pic. Well its effect doesn't make a lot of sence as a Normal Spell, change it to Continuous and that's setteled. Well in think it's way to abusable, I mean combined with Ancient Fairy Dragon this can create a Synchro Spawner.

[b]Champion[/b]
Blurry Pic. Quite an effective card. Though "[i]draw[/i]"="[i]pick-up[/i]".

[b]Shield[/b]
Blurry Pic. Can also be quite effective.

[b]Blast[/b]
Blurry Pic. Simple but effective.


Overal an ok set. Not something Special, but interesting nontheless. Though the images could be a lot better. Try using pics larger then the img zone for the best effect.

Thanks for the in-depth review Lex.

:blink: Oops about Junk Warrior, just found it one of the archives and thought it fitted. Can't change it as I'm struggling for pics as it is. I know they are a bit blurry (Altair is VERY blurry) but I really don't know how to edit them that effectively. As long as they look appropriate for the card I don't mind too much.

Will make the OCG changes when I come to release the other ten cards.

'Starlight Dragon's strength will dependant on the number of Tributes, and Future is supposed to be 'Future Fusion' for the team. I guess I should make it an Equip Continuous though.

I just wanted to do something different was all. I always do a boss Synchro for my sets, but as this one already had some regular Synchros, I didn't want to keep doing the same thing. I also wanted to make the Field Spell a major part of the Deck. Originally Starlight Zone was supposed to be an alternative Graveyard/RFP zone but it didn't work out.

[b]The Set at first glance:[/b]
The Monsters are quite reliant on field presence to really get into their system. The "Six Samurai"-esque effect dodge is a nice touch but still susceptible to field nukes and non-targeting S/T's, although it can be as effective as the Six Samurai's in theory.

Good support within the monsters, Celestial Beast being a nice searcher and the Tuner's being probably the best at filling your field.

As for the Spells/Traps, Starlight Zone is the focal point of the cards, but it is fairly weak if you don't have field advantage. Although, the Starlight Dragon SS seems a little too easy to pull off. The rest seem fairly good, but with very heavy Synchro Summon focus. I'm unsure of the equips, seeing as how they can block some of your own monsters off from Starlight Zone and other generic support.

The Traps are better support, giving the basic monsters a little more staying power, especially Defenders of Galactic Law and Starlight Assault. Nothing much else to say other than decent back-up.

Starlight Dragon is certainly a worthy Boss Monster and picks up the slack from the more susceptible Lv 4 and lower monsters. Starlight Zone makes it fairly easy to play at the risk of lower stats, but this can be helped with some of your Traps.

My take on this set:
At first sight, reading the intro to the deck, I though it would be similar to Elemental hero or the Crystal beast since it says that it need more that 1 card to utilize this set's full potential but I was dead wrong. The pic on the other hand is kinda bad but I won't go there since you already say that you're struggling with it.

So my review, the Monster that aren't Synchro are quit helpful and a great support to each other though field nuke or bounce would abuse them so hard.
Celestial Beast is a great searcher while Deneb would really help defending Starlight Zone when you want to summon Starlight Dragon. The synchros in the other hand seems to be a little drag since when you Synchro Summon a Starlight Hero monster and you used all Starlight Hero monster than it's effect would be useless if you wanted to you wanted to used em in the same phase.
The Spell and Trap is quite useful though the Trap cards are a better support since they give the basic monsters the ability to stay in the field. Starlight Dragon makes more sense as a Ritual monster but that's my opinion. However, it seems pretty easy to Summon it though like if you control 1 Starlight Hero Deneb and 2 other monster, you can easily summon a 3000 ATK monster.

So if I'm to rate them, I'll say an 8.5/10 but if the pics count, I'll have to say 7/10.
