Some popular Decks I will never play

Recommended Posts

As I'm not really sure that this belongs in this section, I thought I'd mention this from the very start ..

As far as I can see, more and more competitive Decks, based on Archetypes I haven't really heard of.. I'll start with an archetype that is really rising in the current meta:

The X-Sabers

Just as I hear, they are incredibly popular, I don't really understand the strategy they involve. I've tried building such a Deck once, but I didn't know where to start from. It turned out to be pretty disastrous and it pretty much just involved summoning some Synchros, but (except for Hyunlei, which is really annoying), I can't really see where the destructive power of the Deck comes. I can see some random hand destruction, but most X-Sabers can be stopped in their tracks by battle or by a mass destruction effect. What do you think of them and why?

Gravekeepers

Just as X-Sabers, all I can hear right now about them is how they top locals and all of that; Now, talking from just what I heard and read about them (don't get to duel against them too often), they rely on negating Graveyard effects and swarming monsters; but is that really so useful now with Dark Hole in there? I can't see Gravekeeprs posing that much of a threat, because they present no mass destruction or anything that can stop a very powerful monster on its tracks, or any possibilities for one-card comebacks (with a few situational exceptions). Again, discuss these

Plants

I get how Lonefire Blossom can be a devastating card and I have actually experienced its effects a few times, especially when I get to face a 2800 beatstick, which can pretty much negate anything from the very first turn. But aside from it, what is it that gives Plants this fervor that they are so often played nowadays, when they used to be nothing pre-Phantom of Darkness? Botanical Lion, Queen/Wall of Thorns, Gigaplant? Then there's the Quickdraw Plant Deck.. What? Mill to access the Graveyard and Dandylion? In my opinion (at least), Lightsworns can do that a lot better. Discuss ..

As for the lately mentioned Lightsworns and for the little cute Blackwings, I've played them and enjoyed how they are played and I can say that Twilight Lightsworns, at least, is a Deck that I enjoy playing, as it usually involves lots of choices and when you lose a Duel, you can go back and think: "I could've done that instead". As for some other Archetypes or Decks that are pretty popular (but are decreasing in popularity), but which I have played and enjoyed playing and which I'd like to discuss are Gladiator Beasts, teleDAD and Dragon spawn

When the first sentence is a fragment and the opening line declares that the X-Sabers are an obscure archetype that the author hasn't even heard of but that is only now rising, do you really need to read the rest of the topic to determine its quality?

Meh, by "now" I meant during this banlist ..

And, really, they didn't have much support back then... Or if they did, I wouldn't know because I've never considered them an option; not only that, but they seem to be so hated right now, that every time "X-Sa" is mentioned, nobody will let you finish the word and just start calling you names (exaggeration, but you get the point)

Other comments: You need to YVD more so you can see why Sabers are meta. =/

Yeah, I know they're good and stuff (played against them), but to be completely honest I've had more problems dealing with Dragon OTKs than with Sabers, but that's just me .. If anyone with Sabers that actually knows how to play wants to duel or anything?

EDIT: just for the notes, out of complete randomness, I've just dueled an X-Saber user .. It went like this:

Duel 1:

Setting Decree, preparing for an epic Celestia + Judgment Dragon; he Synchros, destroys my decree and my monster and he somehow manages to discard Judgment, however in 1 or 2 turns, I get DaD and with a little Grave management I summon it for game

Duel 2:

Had a nice start, however after that he was inc control of pretty much the whole game and it was over quickly

Duel 3:

I use PSZ to summon IDK what Synchro, which he destroys with Torrential, then I Reborn PSZ and summon Goyo. He summons Brionac and sends Goyo to the Extra Deck, then I use PSZ's effect, summon Goyo and get his Brionac. From there on, it was pretty much game (there was some sort of "plot twist", easily negated by the awesomeness of Shiny Black "C")

Yeah, X-Sabers never did anything noteworthy before September 2010.

Then don't make topics about what decks are and aren't good because you clearly don't know what you're talking about.

Did you never bother to think about WHY X-Sabers might be hated?

A person who doesn't know something and can't seem to get the answer through testing and then asks people with more experience is an idiot
Whether you're actually trying to say this or not, this is what it's coming across as.

He thought of WHY the X-sabers are hated. He couldn't find the answer. So he asks. Instead of the answer, you give him... this.

That's because Crab is right - someone who can't get the answer to an easy question through testing and asking lots of other more experienced people is stupid.

Let me explain to TC why X-Sabers are hated so much - they are ridiculously broken and one of the fastest, most insane archetypes ever to be made. They have an easy Tribute/Synchro Fodder/Beatstick in Faultroll, amazing Synchroing options, Darksoul (an abusable advantage-generating beast) and the Gottoms Loop to empty your hand in a flash. They make Synchros and swarm like crazy, that is why they are hated - they are brilliant and expensive.

GKs are a different story - they are by no means Tier 1 and can be beaten much more easily than a lot of other decks. But the Graveyard is a real weak spot for many decks, and when a lot of decks rely on Graveyard play, GKs shine. They have a great searcher in Spy and are generally a nuisance to play against. Not by any means a world-beating deck, but one that is good and rising in popularity.

Plants - now, this is probably your biggest mistake - you actually listed the card that is a problem with Plants in your post - Gigaplant. Gigaplant has a lethal OTK was Mass Driver, Superalloy Beast Raptinus and Lonefire. Plants are a very popular deck and understanding why they are good is a very easy thing do. Just go the Q&A thread and ask why in the future, please.

Glads have consistently been a top deck thanks to Gyzarus. That's it. TeleDAD sees no play any more after the limiting of E-Tele and DAD, and I have no idea what "Dragon Spawn" is.

Blackwings, Infernities, Destiny Heroes (w/ 3 DDraw, you said ever remember?) shall I go on?
BWs is a matter of opinion. My thought is if they are so fast then why do X-Sabers outclass them in the current metagame.
Infernities are again a matter of opinion, this format I would say aren't as Launcher's limiting damaged them severely.
DDT was faster, yes.
