My entry for the C.C. EXCESS Community Brawl ;)

Edith says: This thread actually won an award! I'll just put this *uagh* up here, so everybody can see it. Once everyone has noticed it and therefor pushed my ego enough, I'll take it down again

"The "Excess of Endymion" Award goes to Spoon for unbelievable card design, excellent interpretation of ideas and going above and beyond what is expected of him/her in Card Making. Spoon has shown us what a Card, no... not a card, an idea and how it's supposed to be expressed, even in such a card medium. Congratulations Spoon."

The monsters used to Excess Summon this card must be Spellcaster-Type monsters. This card's ATK and DEF is equal to the number of Overlaid cards on it x 800. Once per turn, you can select 1 Normal or Quick-Play Spell Card in your Graveyard, place it on this card and treat it as an Overlaid card. By removing from play 1 Overlaid Spell Card from this card, you can activate its effect (Quick-Play Spell Cards can also be activated during your opponent's turn). You cannot remove an overlaid Spell Card from play during the same turn it was placed on this card.

The monsters used to Excess Summon this card must be Spellcaster-Type monsters. By removing from play 1 Overlaid Spell Card from this card, you can activate its effect. Each time this effect is activated, place 1 Spell Counter on this card (max. 2). This card gains 400 ATK for each Spell Counter on it. You can remove 2 Spell Counters from this card to return 2 of your removed from play Continuous or Field Spell Cards to your Deck. Your Deck is then shuffled. You cannot remove an Overlaid Spell Card from play during the same turn it was placed on this card.

While you control 2 or more Spellcaster-Type monsters, if you Excess Summon a Spellcaster-Type Excess Monster, you can select 1 Spell Card in your hand. That Spell Card is treated as a monster whose Level, Type and Attribute is equal to that of 1 face-up Spellcaster-Type monster you control for this Excess Summon only and is Overlaid on that card when it is Summoned.

Constructive Criticism anyone? :)

OCG / Common Sense:
overlaid = Overlaid

Effect / Usefulness:
OMG A SPELLCASTOR!!1! The card requires only Spellcasters for it's Exceed Summon, and as a benefit, gains 800 ATK and DEF for each monster Overlaid onto it, which gives it the possible chance to start off with a whopping 3200 ATK and DEF. The card then overtime place Normal or Quick-Play Spell Cards onto it and treat those as Overlaid Monsters, which means more power. It can then use those Spell Cards once again to use it's effect well, again. It's very useful, and makes a great boss for Spellcaster / Spell Counter Decks. With enough swarming, you can get this out no problem, making it a must.

Originality / Balance:
It's quite original as well. Inside and outside of it's uses as an Excess Monster, along as it's uses as just a normal Boss Monster or something. Balance on the other hand, needs some urgent fixing. This card can easily become quite the beater, but also at the same time, can lose it's powerful stats just like that. The monsters also have no use, seeing the only part they are there for is to keep this as a beater and protecting it from getting removed from the field (if you didn't know that, it's one of the Excess Monsters generics), so I suggest perhaps putting more use / maybe more costs to it as well?

Effect / Usefulness:
MORE SPELLCASTORZ!!1! The card just like that, becomes it's own monster, a LIGHT to be exact. Making it useful when combined with Honest, matching any opposing threat. However, it can't be used for a Tribute Summon or for Synchro Material. The card then when Overlaid for whatever reasons -cough- The Above Card -cough-, becomes a Quick-Play that when you choose to use it, gives all your Spellcasters 800 ATK and DEF until the End Phase. It is quite useful, but I believe only works well with the above card, seeing it doesn't state that you can remove it from the Excess Monster to activate it's effect.

Originality / Balance:
It is very, very original. Reminds me of those Trap Monsters, but except this is a Spell Monster that can also be sued for an Excess Monster that makes this become a Quick-Play. Which like I said before, makes it very original. Balance on the other hand, is questionable. 800 ATK and DEF boost can give you the chance to dish out an OTK with the right monsters on your field. Perhaps lower it to 400, or maybe even 200 if needed. Otherwise, it's perfectly fine.

To be quite honest, those are mainly trimmed for usefulness, which is usually not my kind of thing. Anyway, I'm glad that at least you say that I've succeeded this time, thank you.

Well, you'll most likely not use the "normal way" to summon this one, but use its very own Archetype (or Sub-Archetype) to summon it, the Spell Monsters. If you, however, use a monster or 2, you can still use them as protection, as you mentioned. Since it is so powerful, another effect that lets it utilize the monsters on it would be... unless it's a negative one! I'll think about that, thank you.

Making it tribute and synchroable would make it pretty broken if you ask me, because unlike the Trap Monsters, it's an instant summon without a cost. And yes, it obviously would only work with the above card (unless I make more of the same type), which limits it's usability quite a bit... I could redeem that by making it kind of a "Union Spell Monster" that can turn itself around (which is an interesting idea in itself), but I thought for my first attempt at Excess Monsters AND Spell Monsters at the same time, I'd keep it as simple as possible.

800 can be quite a lot, that's correct. On the other hand, it has those very specific requirements. I originally wanted it to have a protective effect (you know, "Warden"), but then I realized that, when overlaid, it already is an protective effect... so I had to think of something different and just randomly tossed the ATK and DEF values in there. I may lower it, if that's what more people think should be done.

Again, thanks for that elaborate comment :)

SIMPLE AS POSSIBLE?!?!? These don't seem that simple if you ask me xD in and outside of it's Excess abilities. Not saying that's negative or anything. And just for the record, me stating it couldn't be used for Tributes and Synchros was not me saying that was a bad thing, but a good thing.

That is true on the requirements being quite specific, but I think you should still lower the ATK and DEF boost. It can make the smallest of 1000 ATK and DEF monsters to 1800 beaters / walls.

Again, thanks for that elaborate comment :)

As simple as possible given the fact that it's not only an Excess Monster, but also one with Spell Monster support. I didn't want to overburden the readers mind with more than an ATK/DEF gain effect :P Still, I'll lower it to 500 for now.

OCG / Common Sense:
overlaid = Overlaid

Effect / Usefulness:
The card can gain Spellcasters, getting a decent 400 boost for each of them, leading this to become a possible 2300 beater. Then, at the cost of removing both Spell Counters, you can return 2 of your Continuous of Field Spells back to your Deck. How they will get removed in the first place, I do not yet know, but it can still help with some recycling. Then, there is the cost of not being able to remove from play an Overlaid Spell Card the same time you activate this. Usefulness is somewhat questionable, mainly it's odd how it can only retrieve removed from play Continuous / Field Spells.

Originality / Balance:
I like how your giving Endymion, one of the first Spellcaster 'Archetypes' a new look, so kudos on that. Balance on the other hand, to me that is, is very questionable. Seeing it is an Excess, the effect, nor the monster, doesn't seem worth getting onto the field. Seeing I do not know any current TCG cards that remove from play Spell Cards, but there most likely will be some in the other newest cards added here. But for now, I'm just not feeling the card.

Just to clarify how the Spell Cards are removed from play: "By removing from play 1 Overlaid Spell Card from this card, you can activate its effect."
Pretty obvious, isn't it :P There are some other cards that can do that (Macro Cosmos and Spell Striker are the ones that pop to my mind just now), but mainly it's the above self-support. Anyway, thanks again for that elaborate view, I'll definitely give it a second look once you're done reviewing the rest ;)

OCG / Common Sense:
OCG is flawless. No errors whatsoever.

Effect / Usefulness:
I might even have the give these cards an Archetype Review sooner or later xD This card like the Warden, can get itself out onto the field, with stats of 1000 and 1200. Along with it not being able to be used for Tributes and Synchros, and like with Warden, when Overlaid to an Excess Monster, it though not becomes a Quick-Play, but a Normal Spell, which can give you 2 Tokens with the stats of 500 each, and when inflicting battle damage through these Tokens, you gain Life Points equal to the amount your opponent took, and along with them, also having the 'ability' of not being able to be used for Tributes nor Synchros. I'd say the card is useful, but the choice of stats here and there are somewhat....disappointing.

Originality / Balance:
It is semi-original, seeing it reminds me of Dandylion, along with a few other cards (no not cards that are half monster and half Spell). Balance is also questionable, seeing the Tokens can do nothing but dish out damage, but with not being able to attack directly through any effect written on the card, just pretty much lay there and are just useless. I suggest giving the ability for the Tokens to attack directly as well. Sure you can dish out 1000 then regain 1000 a turn, but at least it makes the card, well, the Tokens more usable.

OCG / Common Sense:
OCG is flawless. No errors whatsoever.

Effect / Usefulness:
First 3 sentences are generic for the Spell Monsters. However, after, you are granted the ability to remove a Spell from play, which I know see is useful with that Excess Monster of yours. And, as a bonus, this lets you treat this as 2 monsters for an Excess Summon (until the End Phase that is), which clearly shows this is a great use for once again, that same Excess Monster. Then, when this becomes a Spell Card Overlaid onto said monster, you can use it's effect, letting you send a Spell to the Grave (which can be beneficial) to place a Spell Counter on the field.

Originality / Balance:
I'd say it's once again, semi-original. Seeing a good amount of cards out there in the TCG have monsters that can be used for 2 Tributes. However, the unique part of this really isn't....well come to think about it (no offense), but nothing outside of it's Excessnessness (Yes I know that's not a word), is that original. Balance on the other hand, is perfect with the card to be honest. Such simple effects that can beneficial, costs or no costs, makes this a great card.

A direct attack ability (under certain conditions) could be implemented... yeah, I guess I'll do something like that, thanks :) And if it's not that, I'll definitely make the Tokens more worthwhile.

I know the effects "outside of their Excessnessness" are boring as hell. I mentioned it earlier, I try to keep it as basic as possible, given the circumstances. Still you're right, it's not my style, and once this type of card is fully established, I may try something more extraordinary.

+Rep for the Review, though honestly I'd like to hear some other people commenting on it ;)

For a second there, I forgot these were Yu-Gi-Oh cards. You, sir, have just one-upped Konami. I suspect that any Exceed monsters they release now will look like cheap knock-offs in comparison.[/egostroke]

If I HAD to nitpick, I would point out that Arcane Archer is a bit OP'd, what with free direct attacks for any Spell Counter. Spell Counters aren't very hard to come by.

I agree, Konami should just hire me to make their cards from now on, that would also take care of my money problem...

Thanks, glad to hear that somebody actually cares about those cards, and double the gladness (wow) that it's you :P

Don't think I forgot this, I'm just really lacking time / dedication to give reviews, all because I can't continue my current Archetype for some odd reason D: But seeing I still somewhat lack the time as of right now, just a quick review on just one out of the three new cards I have yet rated / reviewed.

Sacred Ritualist of Endymion
The first effect really helps with the Archetype, seeing removing a Spell from the Grave is beneficial for this set of cards; even as a cost, and giving this the potential to be used as 2 monsters for an Excess Summon makes it that much easier to get Rise of Endymion. The last effect somewhat odd, can help once again the set and at the same time, can help with Spell Counter cards / Decks when paired up with them, seeing it gives a Spell Counter in return. The uses of the cards are questionable outside of this set, which I'm slightly, just slightly, not a fan of. However, it being a LIGHT monster I guess balances that out, seeing this makes it a use for Honest and whatnot, but overall, I'm just not liking it for some reason, it didn't 'wow' me like the previous cards. Overall, 6.5/10

Thanks for that inside... though, I wonder... didn't you already gave me a rating for that one *looks at page 1*
Yes, you did... and it was 8.0  Still, I'm glad you didn't forget about this, I'm always looking forward to your reviews :)

The new contest took all my time, so new cards... maybe no new cards for a long time, because semester break was over 1 hour ago. Still one last *bump*, the next one comes once I feel the muse (pun intended) to make new cards for this set.

This post isn't dead is it? I would Love to see Your Exceed cards
in the exceed card format (if YCM could just Update the Maker!) and you probably would have to put 2/3 Level wat/eva Spellcasters etc. On the other hand, Awersome cards! (if u have updated this please tell me where)
