Sensitive, fear, morality, and pain are all things that primitive humans needed to survive in societies. They have their uses and can help shape your own moral compass on what's good and what's bad. However, letting them dominate your actions in a civilization of progress is not advisable.

EDIT: Oh Tony, stop getting your ass handed to you already. :S

Sensitivity is good and bad, depending on the situation.
Good Situation, when it helps you to do the right choice.
Bad Situation, when it leads you to the bad choice.
Like when you are a doctor and must save the life of the man that raped/killed your daughter (In this case, emotions lead you to do the bad thng.

About offensiveness, I think its wrong to offend people and things.
It is wrong, but we still do it because man kind is awful.

Here's the thing:
If you're so sensitive that words make you offended, then go somewhere without freedom of speech.
If you're offended by images, go somewhere without freedom of press.
In other words, you're an idiot.
I don't care what Society finds appropriate. My name ain't "Society."
I hold the same stance on offensiveness as I do on smoking.
If you don't like what I'm doing* go somewhere else.

I don't smoke[/spoiler]

In my opinion, sensitivity is the amount of abusive behaviour a single person can tolerate at any given time without being - for lack of a better word - bothered about it. With me being a mixed race child, I do get quite 'sensitive' about racism, but I would any way.
I'd say that if something bad happens to people, the victim can get quite emotional about the same topic, and can be traumatised in future.

Suicune out.

In reference to an earlier post discussing the "N" word, as it was described.

At least in America, this is one of the largest examples of hypocrisy today. It's used regularly by black people, especially rappers, in reference to other blacks. This is thought of as "repossessing" a negative word. Fine. Good for them. Use it plenty.

But simultaneously, it's one of the most socially unacceptable things in the English language for a white person, or frankly anyone who isn't black, to say.

I get it, racism is serious. I experience it every day, because my school has both a large black population (by the way, African-American is a ridiculous term. First of all, not every black person is African in origin, and second of all, I don't call myself a French American, or an Irish American, or a European American. I was born in America, I'm an American. I also happen to be white. If I was black, I would still be born in America, and I would still be an American. Not an African American.) and a large number of conservative catholic hillbilly racists.

But it's just a word, guys. When it's used meanly, that's a bad thing. It's bad to be mean. No s***. When it's used in jest, there's quite frankly nothing wrong with it. Is it good to be considerate of the sensitivities of others? Of course. That's why I avoid using it, even when making "racist jokes." Does that mean those sensitivities are accurate? Hell No.

[s]Hey![/s]
Well, sensitivity keeps people from crossing the line, basically, so it's important, but too much is bad.

Crossing the line of what? Words? Words do not physically harm you so you should not give a darn what people say if it does not hurt you sensitivity only drowns the world in stupidity and fear in my view... There is no "Crossing the line" as you say because I could say a dead baby joke and somebody will laugh while the other person will whine and complain about how it is disgusting, everyone has their own opinions on what is acceptable, so there is no "Line" to be crossed...

Actually, harmful words and/or thoughts can cause bone decay (from the one saying/thinking them)

And there are "Lines" to be crossed. Everyone has their own line. By saying the dead baby joke, you didn't cross the other guy's line but you ran straight through the one that was offended. There is an invisible line that depicts what is acceptable and what is not. This includes taboo things, because things that are taboo usually are for a good reason. You do not get to draw everyone else's line, nor do you get to pretend not to cross someone else's. You are trying to act as if you haven't a care in the world, but guess what, this is an INTERNET FORUM. You have sensitivities. You have cares. You have wants. Just because you say you don't doesn't mean you don't.

Like you said that you respected other's opinions, you should perhaps respect ones that may "cross the line" before saying something. Just because it doesn't offend you doesn't mean it won't offend someone else.

Personally, I'm offended by many things. I'm sensitive to many things. And I have good reasons to, too. So cross my line, if you will, but I still have my own sensistivities and cares and wants, and no one is going to change that because they say they didn't cross a line that isn't real.

If one of my boy's called me a nigga (though I don't condone the word) I usually payit no mind. But if it's thrown at me in attempt to antagonize or belittle me, I take it differently. AS far as "sensitivity" and "offensiveness" goes, I'm gonna treat it like I treat religion. To each his own. If you find something unacceptable or offensive, walk away.
