Ieyasu Tokugawa
I like doing extra arty stuff, but when you're in a class with people who are bored out of their minds it kind of spoils it. (oh wait, that's all classes).
One of the reasons why I think the "Leave no kid behind" philosophy is a load of bullshit. If they don't want to learn or apply themselves, it's their fault, not the teachers. I learned this the hard way in college.

Chaos Dralcax
Wut? "Conjunctions, clauses and so on", as you put it, are elements of grammar. Exactly why is it necessary to teach certain pieces of grammar but totally ignore other vital components?
I meant stuff like WTF a dependent clause is. As long as we can use elements of grammar correctly, we don't need to recognize them. Hydra of Ages
I meant stuff like WTF a dependent clause is.
"Alright class, you use this thingamabob, the one with the apostraphe in it- yeah, those ones- in this case, and not anything else. Meanwhile, you use words that you use in this situation... I don't actually have a better way of defining them... in this situation." I think you'll find it rather difficult to explain grammar rules to someone if you're not allowed to actually give parts of grammar names. I expect biology class to call an arm an arm, and not "the grabby-appendage thingy you have on either sides of your shoulders".
Welche the crab
Momo, you think all we really need is math and reading? Good luck advancing the world with that.
~ Dākunaitomon ~
What school does is it perpares you for being in public. I mean you could be a genius for all i care but if you've never beem taught how to act in public then people with think you are mentally retarded. We never learn how to grow up just how to act in public
Vough
P.E.: Has it's uses. And I would include it because of the sheer health being active brings, and it isn't "just for jocks", but I would think that having substitutes would be beneficial (such as dance classes, sports, etc. extra or not) Math (Any): Should be required, all levels except the most advanced ones. It will always help you, no matter what. Physics: TBH, I would have this be mandatory too. Physics is just too good a class NOT to teach, and I can't really think of a (good) job that doesn't benefit from some work in physics Science: All but the most advanced courses. Knowing geology, astronomy, chemistry, and biology will help so much in life. English: needed. Grammar: Just teach it in with English Reading: English too Languages: Learning a second language is great on a resume and is beneficial overall. I've only recently learned spanish and it has helped me in many ways. I think that a second language should be greatly encouraged but not required Computers: Needed. So much revolves around computers nowadays it's not even funny. Geography: Meh. I think only a single course is needed since reading a map is basicly all that's really essential. Government Studies: Meh. 1 course would be enough, it would benefit you anyway. Social Studies: A must ---- And personally, I would have homework be reserved as a punishment or course of action if a student is not doing well in school. The amount of time in class (and I've recorded it) is an average of about 19 out of 50 minute periods. I know it's moderately essential, but throughout middle and high school the mass amount of homework that didn't even benefit me just ruined my life, per se, and caused so much stress and loss of sleep. And school prepares you for LIFE! Not social skills, not acting in public or whatever BS that is. It prepares you to have a stable job, a good life, and so many other important things.
