Am i the only one who thinks that everything today is susposed to make you happy all the time, in fiction the hero always wins the bad guys is thwarted and we should all feel great, WRONG!. in real life the villain takes everyone money and their are no survivors, thats the way life is we shouldn't sugar coat it. if anybody thinks of life like this, their classed as being mentally ill and but on medication, sorry our moods to effect others, society wants us to smile every second of every minute of every hour of every day of every month of every year. i being a human have every right to feel like crap if i so choose it!

That's the key word there: fiction. It's not supposed to portray what goes on in real life.
And what's wrong with trying to make people happy?

Great topic.
Happiness is relative.
Everybody is happy when they're doing what they like and are comfortable with themselves.
I don't like hapiness, I hate people talking and laughing and cheering, its all fake !
The world is made of despair and darkness. Happiness is a lie, an illusion, a distraction.
It blocks people, so they don't see the truth.

Too happy? There isn't such a thing as too happy. Don't be a dick to people having a good time just because misery enjoys company.

Happiness is the emotion we should all strive to obtain and maintain. If you're living without happiness then your life is not worth sustaining. It isn't happiness that blocks people from the truth, but bliss. Bliss often comes along with happiness, but the two aren't eternally linked. To say the most critical emotion for a person to have is a hinderance is stupid.

If that were true things like love between one another, appreciation of our environment, the thrill of discovery and creation, masturbation, satisfaction from fulfilling primitive needs like eating and sleeping, making love, and enjoying the artistic wonders ourselves and others made wouldn't exist.

You can make things miserable for yourself with a pessimistic view like that, just don't act like it's reasonable in the slightest and people are fools for being happy.

i'm not saying i'm some miserable b*st*rd and everyone else should be one too, what i'm saying is we should kill those annoying people that walk up to me and if i don't have a smile on my face they tell me to cheer up. there is defiantly something as too happy, if you can only feel a limited number of emotions that makes you a psycho-path.

They tell you to cheer up? We don't know what kind of things you're doing in this given situation, because right now you sound like a moody emo.

no this was a random person i met in the street, i'm walking down the road some random person looks at me and tells me to cheer up, this has happened numerous time, i can feel happy but that doesn't mean i should all the time, let me be miserable!
+REP.
You're right, we can be happy, but not all the time.
Sometimes, some misery helps us to think clearly (at least with me).
Let us be who we want to, let us be miserable !

Not seeing anything wrong about them telling you to be happy.

Would you like to be walking down the streets, your mother just died (example) and everybody that passes through you says "Cheer up !" ?
Its annoying, everybody deserves to be as sad as they deserve to be happy.

NOTE : POST Number 1000, 5 STARS !
Now I'm cheered up !

Humanity is in its self a dark existence, we take advantaged of others and exploit a loophole within seconds of knowing it. I'm as happy as I could be, I don't get down in the dumps for a murder or a kidnapping I hear about, its more expected then not. People are happy for 2 reasons on this, 1) They are too ignorant to know of this worlds nature 2) They know of its nature and accept it. Society expects nothing of us and that is the most flawed of your statements, no one expects us to smile or be peppy, I just do it because I am genuinely happy. Who cares if the bad guys win, it makes things a little more interesting.

That example is way too extreme if "everybody" knew your mother was dead. If they didn't know, I would think it's fine. If they did know, I don't think "everybody" would have said "cheer up" since they're just trying to help. Don't hate, appreciate. You don't have to be happy about those people trying to cheer you up. The least you can do is appreciate them trying to help.

I'd rather live a life of a lot of happiness than having an equal amount of happiness and sadness. I only have one life, and I want to make the best of it. But that doesn't mean I'll go around the street telling people to cheer up. That also doesn't mean I'll try to find happiness in murder, death, etc. I'll be sad for sadness. But what I will do is magnify the happy things in this world instead of magnifying the bad things.

I'm happy.

You know why? It's absolutely attractive. Smiling, laughing, and looking like you're alive. THAT'S beauty.

I can't say I'm "overly" happy, because I have my good and bad days, but for the most part, I have people come up and tell me that the first thing they notice about me is how much I love life and how lively I look in each day.

It's hard for me to respect people who have problems in life, but won't do anything about them. I keep telling them that if they don't move forward or actually try to fix what happened, then they won't get anywhere. They'll keep looking depressed and it's not at all a good way to look.

The negativity in this world is painful so I stopped being such a downer all the time. I'm happier this way and it's amazing.

I don't think there's such a thing as "too happy".
