beefman
Yu-Gi-Oh! The Tournament of Kakum

I ran down the dark alley, my blue sneakers squishing along the wet pavement. My feet hurt, my lungs burned, and my heart was beating at full speed. But I had to reach my destination in time. “What’s it gonna be, runt? You gonna duel?” The voices got closer. I turned around a corner and kept running. “Fine, I’ll take you on, with my Starter Deck Pegasus! Winner takes all the other duelists’ points!” Yep, that was the guy, Jim Brody. He was one of those guys who believed in the “Heart of the Cards” and that garbage, even when of course, it’s the duelist’s skill that win duels, not the cards themselves. “Runt, you can’t win with that. Before I pound you into the ground, I’m gonna give you some advice – starter decks weren’t made to be indestructible. They were meant to suck, and just make kids feel good because they have some cards.” And that, if I’m correct, is Rob Schlik. For a brute, he actually knew something about dueling. He was big, strong, and generally unbeatable around here. “I don’t believe that!” Jim’s voice squeaked. “I’ll go first! I dr-” I turned the last corner just in time. “Jim, stop now!” I shouted. Jim stopped in mid-draw and turned around. “Oh, it’s you, Mark! Just watch – I’ll beat this guy with my powerful deck!” I sighed. “Jim, I warned you, if you want to lose that badly, go ahead. I won’t stop you.” Rob scoffed. “Well, runt, it’s just you and me now.” Rob looked down at his hand and grinned. “Your go first, runt. 8000 life points.” He growled. Jim confidently drew his card and examined his hand. He formulated a plan. “I activate Black Illusion Ritual, and send Blue Eyes Toon Dragon to my graveyard to summon Relinquished! It’s your turn.” He sighed with relief, thinking that nothing could get through his defense. But something was wrong... “Time to die, runt. I draw, and activate -” “Hang on!” Jim protested. “I forgot to set my trap card, so I guess I’ll just -” “No way, runt. It’s my turn now. I activate Toon World -” “Wait, why do you have Toon World?” “Stop interrupting me! Sheesh, you really are a squirmer. Anyways, now I activate Autonomous Action Unit to bring your Blue Eyes to my field. Now, I use Creature Swap, and we trade cards.” “Shoot!” Jim exclaimed. “That means that -” “Yes it does. I use Relinquished’s effect to take control of Blue Eyes, and I use Megamorph on it! Now, I summon Panther Warrior, and attack with Relinquished!” “Uh-oh, I-i have 2000 l-life points le-left,” Jim nervously stuttered. “You know what comes next, runt?” Jim gulped. “Panther Warrior, tribute Relinquished to finish him off!” Rob commanded as his monster charged towards Jim and sliced through Jim’s remaining life points. Jim, exhausted and humiliated, fell to the ground, unmoving. What a drama queen. “I actually thought there would be at least some challenge, runt. You gave me nothing.” And Rob walked away. As soon as Rob left, I decided to look at his hand, and that’s when I realized that even a 5 year old could’ve lasted at least 5 turns with it. He had an Enchanted Javelin, Toon World, and a Mirror Force (I gave him that for his birthday, since I had 2). Pathetic. I somehow decided it was my fault that he lost so many Duelist Points, since I was the Card Ranger of Kakum. My job was to protect duelists from attacking duelists that were too powerful for the weaker one. My job just became a whole lot more important, as the Kakum Duelist Tournament was coming up soon and you could only enter with 5000 Duelist Points. Jim had just lost all his points, but I guess it doesn`t matter, he only had 5 anyways.

“Is he gone?” Jim groaned. I looked over to him and noticed that he was perfectly fine. Not a bruise or scrape. Zippo damage. The only thing I noticed was that his duel disk was slightly chipped. “Dude, you suck.” I insulted. “Gee, thanks.” came his meek reply. “Hey, I broke my duel disk. Could you fix it?” “Broke? Really, it’s barely anything. But, sure, “It is a Ranger`s Duty to Help Those in Need”, as quoted from the Card Ranger’s Handbook itself. Heck, after fixing it, I’ll even train you to be a real duelist.” “Really? That would be swell!” “Don’t say swell, it makes you sound stupid.” “Can we start my training now?” “Fine, if you’re so impatient, we might as well. We can start with a little duel, so that I can find the problems in your deck and work them out, okay?” “Sure. I’ll go first. 4000 life points.” Jim and I both drew our first 5 cards to start. I had a Future Fusion, Overload Fusion (what’s the luck?), Limiter Removal, Exiled Force, and Damage Condenser. “I draw!” Jim declared. “I activate Toon World and summon Toon Gemini Elf. I set a trap and end my turn.” I drew a United We Stand. My hand was rigged in my favour. “I summon Exiled Force, and tribute it to destroy your monster!” I said, dramatically pointing my finger in Jim’s direction. “And now, I activate Future Fusion, to send 18 monsters from my deck to the graveyard and select Chimeratech Overdragon. Now, I activate Overload Fusion, to remove all those cards from play to summon Chimeratech Overdragon!” Jim watched in horror as card after card flew away from my graveyard. Then, out of the ground, arose the giant beast Chimeratech Overdragon. Its multiple heads swayed to some unheard music, its body shining in the darkness. If that’s possible. “I activate Limiter Removal. Now, go, attack, for 28800 damage!” “Hang on!” Jim declared. Did this guy actually have something useful? “I activate Enchanted Javelin!” Ugh. Back to square one, and I can’t do anything now, so... “I set a card and end my turn.” I sighed. A faded Limiter Removal appeared and blasted my Dragon to pieces. See, Brody wasn’t a bad duelist, he was just weak in skill and lacked a real duelist’s strength. “My turn!” Jim shouted. “Hey, not so loud,” I complained. “I’m, like, 5 feet away.” “Sorry. Anyways, I activate Monster Reborn!” I watched his Toon Gemini Elves float back to the field and start dancing again. “Now, attack!” I felt the sudden jabbing of the Elves’ feet hitting me repeatedly before backing away. Then, using its effect, he got rid of my United We Stand. Damn. My life points were now at 2100. As soon as my duel disk was done pulling my life points down, I activated my face-down Damage Condenser and summoned X-Head Cannon. I always keep a back-up card that I don’t use in Chimeratech’s fusion just in case it fails. “I draw!” I declared. Great, a Pot of Greed. No, I mean it, I could use this. “I activate Pot of Greed! And now, I activate Premature Burial to bring back Exiled Force, and use Mage Power on it.” I waited for the band of guys holding clubs to come up from the ground. “Exiled Force, destroy his dancing... things.” After the painful scene of two girls getting beat up by men in armour, I was beginning to think if this was still a children’s card game. “Now, X-Head, attack!” His life points: 2100. “My turn. I draw!” Jim drew his next card and... He ended his turn. Really? No challenge? No attack or anything? Oh well, I guess now I can win. I drew Tremendous Fire, and used it to get his life points down to 1100, and finished him with Exiled Force. Of course, Jim dramatically fell to the ground, unmoving. His shirt was soaked with sweat, which I don’t understand, since his monsters did all the work. I decided to do something nice, so I pulled him up from the ground, and of course he was fine. “Hey.” He said. “What?” I wondered. “Good duel.”

“That’ll be 100 duelist points,” Donna said. She was the local card shop owner. “Don’t worry, Jim, I’ll pay for them.” I said. I was now working on fixing Jim’s deck with a couple of extra cards and some advice, and I had bought him some packs. I even bought myself some Raging Battle packs. We were walking back to our hotel to check out our new cards, when a man dressed in a black cape flew down from the roof of a building beside us and blocked our path. “Whu-what the heck?” Jim stuttered. “Duel.” The man croaked. I began to protest. “Hey, we just need to get back to our -” “DUEL.” He said again, with more ferocity than the first time. Jim turned to me. “Mark, I don’t think I can do this. I barely started making my deck, and it’s not fully ready yet. Would you mind dueling him?” “Fine, here goes.” I readied my duel disk. The man’s face could not be seen, but when he talked, his dark mask flapped from his breath. “I don’t want the ranger. I want the other one.” He said. I turned to Jim. “Jim, we could leave right now and pretend this never happened. Okay?” He didn’t move, but a sentence escaped his mouth. “I’ll duel.” I was a bit shocked, but it was kind of expected from him. I sighed and stepped back. “He’s all yours.” I could tell the man was smiling. “Excellent,” he whispered. “The winner will receive 150 duelist points and all the cards from the other person.” “I’ll go first,” Jim said, barely noticing the shaded figures’ statement. “4000 life points.” As they both drew their 5 cards, I somehow had a feeling that Jim would win. I don’t know what it was, but it seemed he had somehow gotten a little better. I leaned against a stone wall and waited for the duel to get under way. I noticed that Jim’s opponent was running some sort of dark deck, with no specific archetype. The duel started out pretty fairly, as Jim took some damage, the man took some damage. Both fields were kept running with different cards each turn. They exchanged blow for blow. But, as it progressed, Jim began to fall behind. “I activate my Treeborn Frog’s effect!” Jim declared, bringing his frog back to the field. “And now, I tribute it to summon Amphibian Beast! Go, attack!” The green monster ran towards its opponent, an 8-Claws Scorpion. The man braced himself as his life points were depleted to 600. “I draw!” he shouted. “I activate Mystic Plasma Zone, and activate Reasoning!” Jim thought. “Erm... level 4?” he asked. The man picked up the top card of his deck. “Wrong!” he said, as a Summoned Skull appeared on the field. Jim watched as the beast charged towards his monster, and it burst into blue light. Jim’s life points: 400. “I set these two cards and end my turn.” The man said. Jim’s sweaty hand reached for his deck, and dismay turned into relief as he saw his card. “I activate Treeborn Frog’s effect once again, and activate Black Illusion Ritual!” The flying frog once again returned to the graveyard as a new monster took to the field. “I now activate Heavy Storm!” and the man’s Mirror Force and Blast with Chain shattered to tiny pieces. Relieved, Jim once again commanded his cards. “Relinquished, take control of Summoned Skull, and finish off his life points!” Defeated, the man fell to the ground, his cards flying everywhere. Jim and I walked towards the figure and nudged his arm. I was the first to speak up. “Hey, if you tell us who you are and what you were trying to do back there, we won’t take your cards.” “My name is Drakon.” He managed to utter. “I am under the command of the Dark King, Bob Mick. His plan is to...” Drakon’s voice trailed off. “What? What’s he going to do?” Jim impatiently asked. “You’ll find out soon enough.” Was all Drakon replied with. Suddenly, where he used to be, there was nothing but a pile of dust, which blew away in the wind, flying in every direction. And that was all.

“Okay, duelists everywhere, get ready for the biggest thing ever to happen since free cards!” The TV roared. I stopped in the middle of fixing my deck to look at the Kakum Duelist Tournament advertisement. “It’s the Kakum Duelist Tournament, coming in just over a month! Grab your deck and duel disk and get out there for practicing! You’ll need 5000 Duelist Points to enter, so rack ‘em up now for entry!” and the commercial was over. I had been thinking about that tournament for about a week. I could enter, sure, but I wanted Jim to be a good duelist and make it in. After 5 days of training, he was finally good enough to duel whoever he wanted without a problem. Well, except Rob. Just then, a heavy knocking came from the door of my house. I walked over and opened it to see Jim standing there, with a pale expression on his face. “Hey,” I casually leaned against the doorframe. “Wazzup?” “You wouldn’t believe what just happened!” he panted. “So, I was walking down the road, heading towards my home, when a group of cloaked guys came out of an alley and challenged me to a duel!” “Let me guess,” I sighed. “You won?” He shook his head. “No, we didn’t even duel. I took one look at their decks and saw an Earthbound Immortal! I ran all the way back here, and I think they followed me.” I was surprised. “You mean people out there have Earthbound Immortals?” “Yeah, and it was weird.” Jim paused. “They all looked kinda like Drakon.” I heard footsteps that gradually became louder creep up our street. “Hang on,” I said. “Do you hear that?” Jim seemed worried. “It’s them!” he peeped. I looked out into the evening breeze to see 4 cloaked men heading our way. I admitted that they did look like Drakon. “Hey, you freaks! Looking for a duel?” I yelled. They immediately stopped walking. I must’ve missed something, because I blinked, and they were gone. Jim staggered back. “What the heck? Where’d they go?” he asked. “Right here,” a dark voice murmured. “And yes, I am looking for a duel.” “I’ll take you on,” I said, happy for some action. “You go first, 8000 life points.” We drew our first 5 cards and I knew this wouldn’t be too hard. I had a Future Fusion, Morphtronic Videon, Double Tool C&D, Cyber Dragon, and Covering Fire. “I activate Mystic Plasma Zone, summon Vorse Raider, and end my turn.” My opponent whispered. I drew. “Using Cyber Dragon’s effect, I special summon it from my hand! Now, I summon Morphtronic Videon and equip it with Power Tool C&D!” my machine molecularized to the field and grabbed a hold of a drill and a buzzsaw. It now had 2800 attack. “Videon, attack!” It sliced through Vorse Radier and sent 400 points of damage to my opponent’s life points. “And Cyber Dragon, attack directly!” His life points: 5500. “For main phase 2,” I continued, “I set a card and activate Future Fusion.” I sent 2 Cyber Dragons to my graveyard. “Your turn.” The cloaked man drew once again. “I activate Graceful Charity!” he declared. Yeah, how graceful. He discarded An Owl of Luck and... Earthbound Immortal Aslla piscu! I got nervous. Jim was right – these guys weren’t ordinary duelists. “Now, I activate The Shallow Grave!” he declared. “I select Earthbound Immortal Aslla piscu!” Shoot. “I select Cyber Dragon.” I replied. He wasn’t finished yet. “I activate Book of Taiyou, and flip my Earthbound Immortal! Attack him directly!” I watched the giant bird charge straight through my defences and slammed me over. I gasped in pain as I suddenly felt weaker. “Whu... what’s th-this?” I stuttered while getting up. The man darkly laughed. “This is a Shadow Game. If you are defeated, you not only lose all your Duelist Points, and your cards, but also your soul.” At that, the other 3 men chuckled. “I’m not losing, then!” I said, determined to win. “I draw!” I studied my two remaining cards. What was I going to do with a Morphtronic Scopen and Magic Cylinder? Wait a minute. “I summon Morphtronic Scopen, and send it and Cyber Dragon to the graveyard to summon Power Tool Dragon! Now, I flip summon my other Cyber Dragon, set a trap, and end my turn.” The man drew and laughed. “Foolish ranger. I am about to win. I activate Reasoning!” The logical level to pick was level 4. “Level 4.” I said. The man picked up the top card of his deck, smiled, and brought to the field, a Summoned Skull. Where have I seen this before? “Summoned Skull, attack his Cyber Dragon!” I grinned. “I activate Covering Fire! My Cyber Dragon gains the attack of another machine I control, so I’ll choose Power Tool Dragon.” His monster charged towards my now stronger Cyber Dragon and was shattered. He took 400 damage. “Useless... thing!” the man yelled. “Earthbound Immortal, attack him directly!” Once again, things had turned in my favour. “I activate Magic Cylinder! You take 3000 points of damage!” His life points were now at 2100. “Ugh,” my opponent groaned. “Turn end.” I drew a Luminous Spark. YYEESSSS! Just then, a Cyber Twin Dragon appeared on the field. How nice, Future Fusion was actually useless. “I activate Luminous Spark, and your monster’s effect destroys itself, since Luminous Spark gets rid of Mystic Plasma Zone!” I had finally taken down his so-called “immortal”. “Cyber Dragon, finish him!” My dragon blasted light from its mouth at the man, and he fell to the ground in defeat. “Great job, Mark!” Jim excitedly chirped. Relieved, I stepped towards the fallen man to see if he was hurt. “What’s your deal, guys?” I asked. They all turned to me, except the one who I just killed in a duel. “Our leader, Klara, is forcing us to get rid of all the strong duelists in Kakum,” one of the men explained. “We had no choice but to follow orders and challenge anyone we thought might be a threat to our plan to a Shadow Game.” “Do you have any association with Drakon?” Jim asked. Simultaneously, they all answered. “We are Drakon.” And again, they were gone in a blink.

{Galvantula}
I noticed how there's a duel in each chapter so far... You might want to consider that, but it seems to make each chapter more exciting and kept me reading. I think you're doing well with this and i'll probaly keep looking for the next chapters of this. DARKPLANT RISING
Some advice. 1. Don't make fillers, give all duels a meaning. 2. Give duels more epicness. The strongest thing here is Summoned Skull (+2500). Please. Give it more action. No one likes having LV4-only decks duel. But even now it's good for YCM standards.
