Jeez. In my karate dojo we do use Bo Staffs and wooden katana's for deflecting or take-downs. In the end, we don't actually use the weapons.

Then you're not doing real karate. Karate is strict hand to hand fighting.

Remember, being a genius does not require you to be physically fit, I do the same thing, taunt them with crazy intelligent s***, they are confused, herd them on a boat, the clobber the crap out of every single one!!

Please stop talking about fighting video games on my thread.... This is a thread about real fighters. Not short silly stories from your video game adventures.

I remember hearing about one Korean martial artist who lived in Korea's medieval period who was capable of causing serious internal trauma with a mere touch. If he actually hit someone with full force, the target was pretty much dead on impact, due to organs splitting in half, bones shattering, etc. (Not pretty >.<)
For example, he lightly taps you on the shoulder. That shoulder is broken the instant he touches you. Now let's say he had hit you in the ribs full force. All your ribs would be shattered, your lungs would have collapsed, and your heart would've been utterly destroyed.

In the end, he died when a coward had poisoned his drink.

oh u :D

Does football count? I've been thinking of taking up some form of martial arts. Or boxing.

Highly recommend Boxing, Kick Boxing, Jeet Kune Do or Wing Chun.

Kick Boxing + Jeet Kune Do gives you a deadly MMA combo and Wing Chun gives you self defence to the max.

in a real fight your enviroment is what matters and you play dirty by pickin up bricks and pipes or w/e, but as a martial artist, it is all about self improvement mentally, physically, spiritually *will power, not spirit as in ghosts*

boxing counts as a martial art btw theres no need to seperate the catagory, the answer to the foot ball one
technaccly everything in the world is a martial art becasue they use the same basic principles. martial arts embodies most all aspects of life.

if you are a beginnier i highly recomend karate, becasue its easy accessability, most potent in teaching dicipline, spirit and self control, teaches how to use your body with out the use of any weapons or w/e and its relativly cheap for most dojos.

I said we use it for deflects and how to take them down. By my books, that is REAL karate. If you don't learn how to block weapons, than I will attend your funeral because you got stabbed.

Enough said.

No no, please, lets say more....
We're not talking about your book, we are talking about the general definition. being a martial arts student myself, I hate it when people categorize fighting wrong... which you so are doing. I understand defending yourself from a weapon is a must, but then you won't be doing karate if you do so...
Don't argue with me love, you're going to lose. I know my fighting.

actually my dear, There are techniques originating from karate that many learn after acheiving atleast 3 dans or above, which have only to do with countering weapons. You use only your hands and feet to defend yourself yet they are techniques specifically for weapon defence.... forgot what its called, but hopefully my source (a fellow martial artist) is legit.

then again i am arguing with essence XD

I was thiking, should I learn an existing art of how to use a weapon or let all my instints and my mind control my body to crate something new?
I can't decide which one, I always wated to learn something that used a weapon, but I always wanted to be able to just let myself free for creation and probably future harm to people(that would happen on both of them).

nice you brought this back to life thread back to life
marital arts are all imitations or adaptations, nothing is ever original trust me.
all based around aspects of anatomy, physics, nature yadda yadda the only thing that isnt an immitation is your attitude towards martial arts

the art of using a weapon is great, it is never detremential and neither does it make you weak...
but controling your body before you do so, should help you a bit, physical conditioning, flexibility, flow, reaction etc...
