Youtube does it because Viacom sued them over Daily Show and Colbert Report videos uploaded in mass years ago.

I remember this one person who uploaded Masked Rider Decade videos while the show was current, and when he was flagged by Toei, he made a video telling Toei to f*ck off, ending the vid with a photo of V3 giving the finger. He did this on at least 2 of his accounts, and got at least 4 accounts suspended by the time Decade ended. He had another account during the Double era, but I don't like Double (or OOO) so I stopped following his channels. He also had a war with another Decade uploader who was stealing "his" Decade videos and uploading it to his own channel. He made a video calling out the guy who stealing "his" Decade videos.

Uploading content that isn't yours is serious business.

Also, one Let's Player lost his account for uploading an LP of the new Wolfenstein game. MahaloGames also got hit for it, but they got their channel back. The LPer didn't and made a new channel.

On the plus side, Bandai, Funimation, and other anime companies now have youtube channels where they upload full episodes. Bandai uploaded Gundam 0079, Gundam 00, Robotech, and Code Geass. I've also seen Voltron around.

As far as the business point goes, I agree. But on the entertainment point, no. Look at how many songs are on YouTube. Millions. Them cutting off the audio on illegal ones only leaves a few videos left. Basically (as I know), you have to have written permission by the company to play their songs. You must then send it to YouTube to be evaluated. This whole process could take months, possibly years. All for a song. That's rediculous.

Now as far as movies/TV goes, I completely agree with all of you.
