How dear is life to you, may I ask?

Would you ever kill yourself to save someone else? If so, under what circumstances (meaning which people) would you save someone?

It seems super-heroic and whatnot, but I value my life wayyy more than I value anybody's life. I'd kill myself to save someone if I was going to die in about five seconds anyways, just for the heroic awesomeness.

Some emo people are going to be like, "Hey, Dark! I want to kill myself, and I'd do it under any circumstances, even if I am not saving anyone!"

"Heroic Awesomeness"? Wtf? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. When you sacrifice yourself, you don't do it for glory or fame; you do it for a cause. I bet you wouldn't even jump off a bridge to save a drowning person even if there was possibility you could survive; I know I wouldn't. Self-sacrifice is a cliched term.

I WANT to say I'd sacrifice myself to save a life, but I really can't say for sure. I could think of saving someone in exchange for my life to be a glorious way to die, but would I even care about that when faced with death? Would I be able to overcome my instinct leaning toward survival and throw it away for someone else's sake? Would it make a difference whether it'd be a stranger or someone I love?
I can't say for sure, and I hope I'm never faced with such a choice.

I would sacrifice myself IF:
-The cause is just.
-It's someone I care about.
-The death is painful.

The last one makes is sound like I'm either emo or masochist, but I feel sick to my heart seeing people in pain. Sounds cheesy, but true.

Yep, my logic makes sense. Die painfully instead of surviving at the cost of someone else dying painfully.

Oh, and that reminds me of one more point.

I'll sacrifice myself only if I know there's no way the person I'm saving will get killed anyways.

What if YOU didn't die painfully and the other survive, you wouldn't do it then?

I don't really know. I wish I could say I would, but I really can't say I'm 100% sure. For someone I really care about, or a child, I'd most likely do it. There's something with me and children. Can't see them in pain. So yeah.

Then the first two reasons would have to be emphasized more.
