Smesh
School's almost over for me, and we had a counselor come and talk to us about high school today. I'm completely fine with staying in 8th Grade thank you very much. Is freshman year really as bad as everyone says it is? And if you haven't been to high school yet, are you worried as well? Makο
My first year of High School will be Homeschooled, like the last few years of school. But I'll be going to a normal one the next... Anbu-of-Sand
I just hate having to do Life Skills Rotation Class just to give a heads up on the Electives we can choose next year. I mean sure, I'm fine with doing a mini-class of Cooking, Metalshop, Woodwork, but it's just Sewing I despise.

High School isn't too bad because all my best friends from Middle School are here. My High School is right across the street from the Middle and Elementary Schools which made the transition easy for me and my parents. I only have to walk like 10 more feet to get to school. Fusion X. Denver
Freshman year is stupid.
Junior year is the stupidest. I hate to say this, but you'll miss freshman year. At first, it was pretty frightening for me. I was at a whole new school knowing no one there. I awkwardly tried making friends at orientation, many of whom I talked to did not become friends of mine. But just being yourself and being open to conversation, you'll find your friends. Plus, it's easy to do so in freshman year because you can talk about the same stuff with everyone: how they're adjusting to high school, where they went to for middle school, what lunches you have, etc. If you have adequate social skills, you'll be fine. But then there's the work. Sophomore year, you will most likely find yourself losing any motivation you've had in school before. A "sophomore slump" if you will. This is dangerous and something you need to get OUT of if possible. If not, your junior year will suck. Terribly. That is the case for me and I deeply regret developing my procrastination problem. By this time, you should feel comfortable socially, but stressed out in academics. Most seniors I've talked to say it is the best year. You're the top of the food chain, have classes more suited to who you are, and you can drive. Basically, freshman year isn't so bad, it just takes a little time to adjust. Junior year is the one you have to really give it your all in.
ragnarok1945
for me Senior year was the easiest because there was virtually no work Of course that WOULD have to depend on the state you're in Junior year was the hardest for me, by far the most work involved
Marisa Kirisame-ze
Let me tell you, I'm in my freshman year right now, and I never thought it could be this amazing. This year is when people find themselves. They begin to realize who they are, who will stick with them, and what they want to do. Some quicker than others, and for me, this year was the highlight of me realizing who I am and accepting myself. The basis of school, when considering the social standards, is beautiful. At my school, there are no social classes, just groups of different people. No one is called out above the other, unlike middle school, which was always a stack of levels for each person - the popular kids and the not popular kids. It's not like that in high school, at least, for me it's not. You make friends with everyone because most people here are either matured, or extremely friendly. But also note that what got me so many different friends was my coming out this year as a bisexual. In my high school, being amongst the LGBT community is such a damn highlight, it's not even funny. We all stick together, help each other out, etc. However, still, the majority of my friends are straight, and so accepting. Nothing has really changed because of my coming out, besides the fact that I can be myself openly without hiding who I'm attracted to and who I love or crush on. As for academics, freshman year is not something to stress yourself over; however, it is the start of the set up of your life, so you better make it good. Pass all your academic classes so you can get into APs or Honor classes for the next year. You can't screw up in high school, it's where your life will lead you. I'd recommend acing all your classes for insurance of credits and incase your grades go down throughout the next three years, because it only gets harder from freshman year. Dark
In my district, we had two middle schools combining to form one high school. So, during freshmen orientation, I made a lot of friends from the new school, and kept my friends from my old middle school. Freshmen year is a great place to make friends, and you'll need them to leave through four years of boredom and retardedness. In all honestly, junior year is a ton worse than freshman year. As an eight grader, I wasn't too afraid of going to a new school. It was bigger, and I would be late a few times for the first week or so, but you get used to it. It was especially awesome since I shared two classes with sophmores, so I was automatically labeled as "that smart kid". Made me feel good. Freshman year is pretty easy, but you have to get adjusted to the work load. In middle school, I was used to coming home at around three, doing homework until four, and dicking around until eleven. In high school, while you can still bullshit your work, just remember that grades count. GPA counts. I'm not saying I do homework seven hours a day, but even now, during my senior year, I can honestly say I only get about ninety minutes of free time from Monday to Thursday (each day, ofc). If I may make a suggestion, take ten minutes during your study hall every day to plan what you are going to do when you get home, and give everything time increments. Make sure that you assume each task will take a lot longer than you know it would. I even do that to this day; I would go to study hall, assume my math homework would take forty minutes, English homework an hour, et cetera. Once I started doing it, I realized that I did my homework in half as much time, so while my schedule said I would end homework at eleven exactly, I ended at around nine o'clock (you know, after clubs and whatnot). You'll be a ton more afraid of junior year, trust me. Let's list... JUNIOR YEAR ENTAILS: SATs Driving Practice Extracurriculars SATs AP Classes Sports Volunteering Potential Jobs SATs IT IS NOT FUN. Nishi-chan
I'm a Freshman this year, and when I was in 8th grade they had a high school orientation where we came to the high school we were planning on going to and some teachers and ASB people came and told us about high school. I think they mentioned about a hundred times that they protect Freshman, unlike rumors from other high schools. I was really happy to hear this because I believed all the rumors about 'The Freshman Hunt' and stuff like that. If your school is half as awesome as mine you'll be fine. Also, what is your last day of school? Mine's in the 'Important Things Coming Up' spoiler in my sig, and you say your last day of school is close, but mine isn't, so we obviously don't have the same last day of school. Kelp'
Freshman year we were still at a Junior High, so I guess it took a lot of the pressure off. :] But like Fusion said, Junior year is terrible. It's pretty much the final grades for the transcripts you send off to college, so it can be stressful, not to mention the application process. It's not something you need to write down, but give it a thought. If you plan your day, you are more likely to be less stressed and have more free time. I can honestly say, throughout my entire high school career (which will be over in roughly forty or so school days), I have only pulled one all-nighter, and I didn't even need it because I would have aced the exam without it. I could argue saying the all-nighter gave me an A+ on the exam, but I highly doubt that. I don't remember a single question that I wouldn't have already known the answer to. <___< Another thing about clubs, don't just do it to put it on your college apps. Clubs are after-school activities where you can release yourself. Don't do it because you are Asian and need to get into Harvard or some shit like that. Out of all of my friends, I have one of the most diverse resumes, but that's because I try a lot of things. Bowling team, frisbee club, debate club, physics club, some animal club, some political club, et cetera. I do all of those because they are fun. Don't let your parents force you into doing things because you want to get into a great college. Clubs aren't to put more stress on you, but rather to make you happy. And because I have an older sister, I didn't have to learn this the hard way: you don't need to have a seventeen-page resume (it's technically supposed to be one page max) to get into Harvard. Colleges understand that high school is tough, and almost as stressful as college. You don't need forty clubs and twelve sports and five jobs and 6042 hours of volunteering. Add things in layers. My freshmen year, I was in two clubs and a sport. Sophmore, three clubs and a sport. Junior, four clubs and a sport. Senior, five (or six?) clubs and a sport. High school felt easier as I went along, not harder. And that's how it should feel. I've probably already said more than I need to, but I feel like people worry too much about high school. I may not be in the top five of my grade, and I may not have gotten a 2390 on my SATs, and maybe my GPA isn't a 4.0, but I tried to be as intelligent as possible, and had fun with my four-year experience. When I found out what college I was going to (which wasn't my first choice, by the way; it was my second), I wasn't sad. I wasn't angry. At least I know that I was happy for four years when those super-nerds probably had no free time for over a thousand days straight, and I frankly didn't give a damn that I'm not going to Yale or Harvard or Princeton. At least I could pull some fun out of a rigorous experience. To all incoming freshmen, you have nothing to worry about. Trust me. 'The Freshman Hunt' All lies. It's more prominennt in college, but even there people don't do much. As shocking as it sounds, people have higher moral standards than that. And I believe my school ends on... June 17th? I think that is my graduation day, at least. :/
