Record breaking attempt! O:

So this is what's going down. I am preparing a dedicated group of gamers for a record breaking attempt! What caused this idea you ask? Well, while reading my issue 217 Gameinformer, I can across a page explaining a record four members of the staff broke. Editor Dan Ryckert received a copy of the Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer's Edition. Upon reading through it, he came to the conclusion that he wanted to break a record. Unfortunately, he lacked the needed skills to break most of the records. So, he chose the simplest one. He decided to beat the world's longest fighting game marathon which was 26 hours and 27 minutes. He gathered up three other staff members and they beat the record. Yep, they beat it. They played Super Smash Bros. Brawl for exactly 30 hours.

So...I being someone who thinks I can break a record, have created a team of four dedicated to breaking a record! The team consists of myself and three friends (one being a girl, believe it or not), plus our camera man! Now I know you're dying to know what record we are going to break. Well, we are going to break the world's longest first-person shooter marathon! The current record is at 33 hours and was achieved by the Rustler’s Gamesafe team of Craig Johnson, Sam Smith, Thomas Stilliard and Steve Weavis (all UK) at i41, Newbury, UK, from 12-13 November 2010. We, however, are aiming four 48 hours while playing Black Ops on xbox live. Yep, we are going to stay awake for 48 hours!

Now, as for the reason as to why I brought this to everyone's attention is quite simple. I need tips on staying awake. And nothing drastic please (like purvy stuff). This stuff is getting recorded from start to end. So suggestions would be greatly appreciated! ;D

Gaming marathons are like running marathons; you need energy. Pack some carbs for long-term energy.
Sit in a comfortable chair. You wouldn't want to game for 2 days straight in a terrible chair, now would you?
Have something to entertain you while you're gaming. Listen to music, strike a conversation, share humor (especially this one; it'll keep you up for hours).
Take plenty of bathroom breaks when needed.
DO NOT GET BORED.

That's all I got.

Well you need to persevere of course. Are you all going to drink a lot of coffee? Or anything else that can help you stay awake? Try eating a lot of food when tired. And avoid playing in bad light or in dim situations. Comfort yourself as best as you can throughout the process to avoid boredom. And finally, keep up your game-face on by enjoying yourself with your friends while it is going on. Also, make sure you're prepared for anything that can interfere (Power outages, Plug out the wall, parents, etc).

That's all.

Well, I'll be sure to look for you, and I'd be more proud if it wasn't a shooter game. But still, playing any game for 48 hours is a feat in and of its self. Mabye I could break a record for minecraft... but thats off-topic

OT: Do anything to keep awake like talking and jokes, energy drinks, and the like. Perhaps during breaks, you should dump your heads in buckets of water?

It's what we all agreed on. And Black Ops is one of the few games that the girl on our team is good at and proud to say she is good at.

We are actually tossing around the idea of filling my bathtub up with ice. Then when it's between matches and we get tired, we can jump in it real quick.

A friend of mine tried it but he got tired because he ate too much Junk Food. So pack up on the Healthy food before you enter your marathon then you shall eat as much Junk Food as you please. Are you going to play multiple games or just one? I'd suggest that if you are playing one play a game that has a Multiplayer Mode, Campaign Mode, and some kind of mini game so you won't get easily bored with the game. As for drinks you need to drink some type of non-caffeinated drink because I find that those drinks get you tired than active. Preferably Sprite or Fanta your choice really but again make sure that it is non-caffeinated

Good Luck to you all...

Oh and by the way how the hell did your parents agree to this?

With the comfortable seating bit, I actually suggest an UNcomfortable seat. That way, you won't feel lulled to sleep while you seat and game yo ass off.
As said, get loads of sleep before. Start the recored attempt in the morning, maybe an hour or two after you wake. That way you'll still have loads of energy.
And eat sugary stuff. I find some people stay awake a bit longer when they eat sugar. I KNOW I DO.

Good luck man.

We are going to be playing Call of Duty: Black Ops. Four online matches, then a zombie match. The four more online matches followed by a zombie match. The four of us are going to mix it up.

And...well...I had to be quite convincing. :3

The only thing I can really think of is to get a lot of sleep a few hours before you start, and maybe take a shower ten minutes prior to starting. That'll keep you awake and kicking for a good portion of the run.

A shower? I never thought of that.

An iPod.

Got that covered. We can hook that up to my mom's BluRay player that has surround sound. And that thing gets LOUD! ;D

Caffeine is vital. Obtain lots of cheap energy drinks and Pro-Plus tablets, they work wonders in helping you stay awake. Start the marathon at 7-9pm so you can have a good night's sleep immediately after finished the marathon. Have a nap before the marathon. Do not drink any energy drinks until tiredness kicks in. Take regular bathroom breaks (and use the opportunity to stretch out and exercise a little in the process).

My personal best is a fourteen hour Pokemon Pearl marathon I did whilst on holiday in France.

This is probably the best bit of advice so far.

Good luck bro.

Resist the urge to sleep, that's how I can stay awake overnight, then you get filled with energy.

Mix it up, so you can avoid boredom, and conserve some energy for the final stretch.

We are mixing the matches up. Four Capture the Flags, Zombies, Four Demolitions, Zombies, Hardcore Team Death Match, Zombies...you get my drift.
