What the article doesn't address is that much of this was caused by a Christian preacher known as Little Pebbles who claimed the Virgin Mary had appeared to him and told him to massacre the "cockroaches" (Tutsi minority). Rwanda, the most Catholic country in Africa by a huge margin, duly complied. Religious authorities spoke in support of the Genocide and nuns and clergy helped to alert the authorities to the places where Tutsi were hiding.

The Catholic Church, almost twenty years on, has still yet not apologized.

Discuss.

It's a wiki. Which means, someone probably edited it out or something.

800,000? Holy sh**!

This thread screams, "Cool story bro." Anyway, I think it's good that this story is getting out there, because I had never heard about this before, but I fail to see how this warrants an "LOLOLOLOL." Religious violence is one of those "old news is old" topics.

As for the Catholic Church not apologizing, I'm not surprised at all. No large company, faction or government would ever make a public, "we dun goofed" apology, especially when they have that kind of power.

No. The Catholic Church had laws for priests that forbid them to marry girls, so the priests raped a shitload of women. Not fail?

I need an explanation of what "generalization" means.

You worded your statement as if every single priest has been guilty of rape. In reality, it was 4% of them. That's still an assload of them, but you can't accuse priests in general.

The LOLOLOLOL look what I found ;P was a parody of your Soviet persecution thread. Soviet persecution of Christians was child's play compared to the Spanish Inquisition.

The sad part is that no one knows the real figure. It could be anything from that to 1,200,000. I really don't think it is acceptable for me to post some of the rather gruesome pictures, I encourage you to Google them instead. The massacre at the school where thousands of children were exterminated...the school is now a museum of Genocide. There is only one exhibit - every room is filled with the bones and emaciated corpses of children. Sickening.

You're making generalizations.

I take it you haven't heard of the document Ratzinger issued in the 60s. It's a decree that means that no evidence of any sexual crime a priest commits can be released until the victim is twenty-eight years old (ten years after adulthood). This is done not to protect the victim, but to protect the priest. It only came to light a little while ago after a rogue priest showed the document to a lawyer.

I'm not sure of the exact number, but something like four or five popes have committed sex acts on children, and these are only the ones we know of (a Pope Gregory had a heart attack midway through sodomizing a page boy once). I'm not generalizing. According to a survey, somewhere between 20-50% of Catholic priests are gay (I know a couple, one's a great guy). That's a huge figure.
