A Master Red Single - Sneaky Shark of the Shallow Depths

Master Red

Recommended Posts

First attempt at using the new OCG. Basically the card is made to fit with the removal fish cards that are coming up in the game as well as just being able to work well on its own in any Fish Deck. Easy to summon and has a minimum ATK of +200/+300 during its first turn on the field.
You can banish 2 Fish-Type monsters from your Graveyard in order to Normal Summon this card without a Tribute. During your Standby Phase, send 1 monster from your hand or Deck to the Graveyard or destroy this card. This monster is unaffected by card effects. This card gains 100 ATK for each of your banished Fish-Type monsters. Once per turn, you can discard 1 card from your hand in order to banish 1 monster in your Graveyard. When this card is destroyed, Special Summon one of your banished Level 4 or lower Fish-Type monsters.

Oooh boy. I'm actually running Flying Fish (which is what I call removal fish, as most of them have a flight theme.) on DMG atm. So I know how useful this card would be...

"You can banish 2 Fish-Type monsters from your Graveyard in order to Normal Summon this card without a Tribute."
If the duelist was having a bad match and couldn't get his cards RFG'd then this would be pretty great. Allows him to buff his RFG. If he was having a great match and his grave was relatively empty, then this card could not get much play.

"During your Standby Phase, send 1 monster from your hand or Deck to the Graveyard or destroy this card."
This should be "During your standby Phase, banish 1 monster from your hand or deck or destroy this card." Because you really don't want your cards in the grave with this deck.

"This monster is unaffected by card effects."
Mhmm, not bad.

"This card gains 100 ATK for each of your banished Fish-Type monsters."
The boost isn't that great, especially since it's Fish only and not Fish, Sea-Serpent, Aqua.

"Once per turn, you can discard 1 card from your hand in order to banish 1 monster in your Graveyard."
...Eh. I don't like this effect because not only does it send a card to the graveyard (which in a fish removal deck is pretty silly) it requires there to be other monsters cards in the grave which ideally shouldn't be there. At the same time, like the summoning condition it can be useful in a bad match. Really, summoning this card and then discarding to banish a fish in your graveyard meets the requirements for Fish'n'Kicks and allows for the other support to also work.

"When this card is destroyed, Special Summon one of your banished Level 4 or lower Fish-Type monsters."
Eh. It's only for Fish types so there's less use for this.

-Final Thoughts-

My main problem with this card is that it specifies Fish types, when removal fish all say Fish/Aqua/Sea Serpent. The last effect in particular would be more useful if it stated all the types mentioned above instead of just Fish. In some cases I'd rather bring out an Air Orca than a Big Jaws or Fly-Fang. (Which btw, are the only ones you can bring out.) The level is also rather high for removal fish, which are all four or lower. This causes it to be skipped out on some interesting tactics removal fish could employ.

Honestly, I wouldn't really run this. If I did I would run this @1. It's not a bad card to have if you're doing bad, but since ideally you want to win, having a card like this is pretty meh.

Oh and I don't like the picture, but once again that's just me. :S

It should be noted I reviewed this card based entirely on a removal fish deck.
