They're nice, but Barter would be better at the standart 2400, and regarding Morter's effect, it's not mandatory to have a side deck, especially on casual play, so what happens if the opponent has no side deck? (you covered the "having no monsters" part, but what about no side deck at all?)

Well, if he doesn't have a side deck he doesn't have a monster either. so it is the same with or without a side deck.

Yes, but the first part of the effect wouldn't trigger either. You cannot send the monster you destroy to the Side Deck if there isn't one, so the first part wouldn't activate. Generally, an effect won't trigger if the conditions aren't met. ;)
