I'm not trying to take the blame away from the internet, I'm just saying there's more reason than one. And if ya think about it, the internet is a big contributor because people meet online, think they know each other, and like, elope to Vegas to get married. Or something like that. Lol. And ya gotta think about how easy it is to get mail order brides now that you can find them much easier on the internet. o__o

Also... "Video games don't make kids violent... Lag does." One of my most favorite quotes ever! Lol.

Now-a-days, I'm not saying this is the reason for an increase in divorces, but now-a-days... When a younger, married couple hit a snag, a lot of them don't want to deal with it and just divorce. Wtf? In the vows, it says that you'll be there for better and for worse. Sure, the vows are ancient old, but they work. People just have to put effort into marriage. Also, people are getting married too young. They say the first 2-3 years of a relationship is lust. If ya hit the 5 year mark, I'd say your golden. Now-a-days, most people get married within a year or so. A year isn't long enough to know the person you love. Neither is 5 years, nor a life time for that fact. But marriage requires effort and the younger people now-a-days are just used to things being handed to them and it being all hunkidory! That's my small take on the divorce aspect. Lol.

And don't you think the societal movement towards getting engaged quicker sparks from internet relationships? People get "cocky" and think they know someone by Skyping with them ten or twenty times. Human interaction definitely humbles couples in the sense that they realize that they don't know each other that well. It's a lot easier to talk to someone through text or even voice chat than it is to have an actual real life meeting with them. I'm not saying divorce went up solely because of internet relationships, but they are absolutely a factor.

When it comes to divorce, I think you are forgetting a very big contributor to increasing divorce rates... and its not internet relationships.

How many celebrity marriages can you name that has not ended in divorce or separation?

Sure, its all fine and dandy to take two statistics and claim they HAVE to be related, but that's really just being picky about your data. It has to match what you believe. The most recent studies on divorce rates DON'T point to the internet, but actually blame Hollywood for. They have glamorized the marriage and divorce cycle, as well as shows like Desperate Housewives. They are the ones who show their fans that if they don't like something in the marriage, then its time to break it off for something better than trying to fix it.

Now, does that mean internet relationships are not related to the divorce rate? No, in fact as someone who met his fiance online on a forum, I have to say that most the relationships I hear about online are stupid to a degree. We've have met.. multiple times. Sure, we Skype, and we chat, but we have gotten together, and I didn't propose to her until I was there with her. But those who get a relationship fueled solely with chat is just wrong. The internet should not be used to go through an entire relationship.

Those that actually progress to marriage without previous contact probably do end up in divorce. But to say that the cause of the divorce rate is due to internet relationships is misguided, its like suggesting that since a magnet attracts metal, putting a magnet in front of a bus will pull it along.
