Thirteen Reasons Why

I haven't read the book, but I looked over the summary. It seems like an explicitly-themed, dark adult book, but it seems somewhat unrealistic to me. The girl commits suicide because of sexual harassment and being ostracized and patronized by the other girls in the school. I've personally known people who've had to struggle through severe handicaps, years of bullying, morbid obesity, abuse from family, and much more and still make it through with a relatively normal life. I might just be personally biased or too close-minded to consider the book realistic or the summary might not be a good depiction of the actual book, but the book seems exaggerated and somewhat convoluted. Hope this rant isn't offensive.

Right, I was expressing how I thought the book was unrealistic, not that it was too dark. I'm actually a fan of the darker-themed books, like the post-apocalyptic dystopia classics of literature that reveal the inherent evils of humanity's vices. The book just seems to be a melodramatic rendition of the classic outcast with what I consider to be a more ridiculous subplot. I actually know what it feels like to be considered an outcast from personal experiences and from being friends with many of them, and even then, I know that despite all the crap people give us for all kinds of bs reasons, we still don't give in to just giving up on life.

As for the subtle romance aspect, I understand that there's an underlying motive tying together the interactions of everyone that had an impact on her decision to commit suicide. That's something I admire, but the book itself seems somewhat incredulous.

Hahah, when you put it like that, the book sounds ridiculous.
The book was amazing for me because I don't read books much, just manga. I considered suicide once, being as I am somewhat of an outcast, but then decided doing that is just selfish, and retarded, pardon my french.

Anyways, everyone entitles to their own opinion. The book made me cry, and anything that can invoke that emotion in me deserves respect.... Well in my view. But hey, to each their own.
