Welche the crab
Is it still truly democracy? Democracy comes from the Greek word "Demos", referring to the poor, lower class and the word "Kratos", meaning power. Put together it is the power of the people. The Greeks practiced a form of democracy in which every man has equal political power and if there is a need for a special office, the person is chosen by random lottery. This is not what we find around the world today. The "democracy" practiced in the United States today is a form or indirect democracy, but they went a step further. In a simple indirect democracy, the people elect their leader. In the US, the people elect the senate and they choose a leader. From my point of view, this in fact is closer to a Aristocracy because the power is held by a select few, and not by the people.
