Akira
As a British taxpayer, I am against the continued subsidisation of the higher education sector. Students these days get a free ride at a ridiculous expense to the nation.
Remind me why you're on a children's website.

Akira
If the government did not have the student loan/grant system, only the inherently rich would be allowed the chance to go into further education, opening a wider range of opportunities for jobs that will in turn (shock horror) make them richer. Does that sound fair to you?
Ojamazing
All I can say definitively is that it's not fair to the average British taxpayer. I'm not going to get bogged down in semantics.
Akira
You say that, but most taxes (I say most because retarded crap like inheritance tax exists) benefit the nation as a whole. One could similarly argue that NHS tax money is unfair if they by some fluke never get ill or have to go to hospital throughout their life. I won't get into a massive debate over it if you don't want to - happy to agree to disagree here.

The vast majority of British taxpayers gain some benefit from the NHS. On the other hand, there is no empirical evidence that these disproportionate university subsidies increase the number of people who take up graduate-level jobs and even if there was, the majority of the money that is paid for this subsidy does not make its way back to the people who worked for it. It is, quite frankly, an absurd situation. However, I will leave it at that. I'm not going to waste my time.

Ojamazing
You said it was a bad comparison because the NHS benefits a lot of people. I'm saying that professional workers benefit a lot of people.
I'm not sure that they do, and I don't think you can prove that the money taxpayers spend on subsidies is returned to them in the form of tangible benefits given to them by these workers. I am furthermore unconvinced that subsidies have a quantifiable effect on the number of "skilled professional workers" our universities turn out or that there is a significant undersupply of graduate labor. Before you respond by saying "you can't prove that the NHS is good value for money" I'd like to say that absolutely nobody in Parliament wants to abolish the NHS. However, it's quite a different story for university subsidies, as I'm sure you know.
Chain is a buzzword...?
I'm assuming it's a neologism that I haven't picked up. Is "chain" in this context a synonym for society? If it is, then refer to my above paragraph.
They'll pay them back eventually even if slowly. Unless they end up being failures living off benefits, but hey we can't do anything about that.
We can abolish subsidies for all but the most able and dedicated, deterring those less likely to get a job from applying. Wait, those exist! They're called privately funded scholarships! Egad, what a revelation! Btw, thanks for categorizing those who work in the service sector as failures. That's really nice.
