I'm not going to even begin describing this one, except that... I've read some classic books, but this series was by far and away my favourite.

Absolutely freaking amazing.

I defy you to argue with that. Anyway discussion on three awesome books.

I absolutely love this series! And the movie! Too bad they couldn't make a sequel D:

Finally someone gets it. :D

Disagree about the movie though, from what I saw it looked bad (calling it the Golden Compass was a bad start anyway). Daniel Craig should NEVER be allowed anywhere near my favourite literature (or Bond for that matter)!!! People stuffed up Eragon as a film too.

Its well known that book versions > film versions.

I am guessingyou don't like Daniel Craig to which I will have to disagree as he is one of my favorites... Loved him in Golden Compass, Cowboys and Aliens, And Defiance.

Daniel Craig is currently doing everything in his power to destroy the once suave, charismatic, cool character that was James Bond.

I will give him however that Defiance was brilliant.

Book > Movie in every single case. EVERY. SINGLE. CASE.

I hate how they cut off the ending of the Golden Compass in the movie version, just so they didn't want to show Roger dying.

Oh yeah, spoilers in the above sentence. :3

They did that?

I didn't see the entire film, but thats scandalous. Where did they end it?

Don't quote me on this, since it was a while ago, but I'm pretty sure they stopped it in Lee Scoresby's balloon as they are leaving the home of the polar bears. They're going after Lord Asriel, the kids are flying towards the aurora and - cut to black. Credits roll.

...um, wut?

I read these books long before I could actually understand what was going on - should probably read them again some time.

On the whole books vs. movies debate: books are generally better, but I can think of one case where the two were almost equal: The Stand, book vs miniseries. The series is still worse, but not by a lot.

Good... I don't want to see the same bond over and over again... I like this new bond, darker and more emotionally distaught than his predeccesor... In fact all the original actors who played James Bond support this move... Out with the old and in with the new...

Er, except he wasn't like that at all. In Quantam of Solace he was just on an angry, half drunk, sleep deprived rampage for the entire thing, just killing everyone who so much as walked on screen without any thought and generally being the same type of generic 21st century action 'star' in every other film of its genre.

Regarding Umbra's comment, I want to see the film adaptation of Dorain Grey as I suspect that would be better than the book.

Book: "Many years past, and Dorian Grey did many terrible and wicked things..."

Me: Interesting. Tell me more.

Book: "But I don't need to tell you more about that. Instead this chapter will be dedicated to two wealthy snobs at a dinner party discussing class and boring stuff..."

Me: NOOOO!!! TELL ME ABOUT THE SH*T DORIAN IS GETTING UP TO!!!
