Points are earned by posting, making topics and I believe you can also get them by receiving reps(now called likes for some reason). Depending on the shop owner and workers, prices can vary from free to possibly 100s of points. You can buy sigs, avatars, card edits and other stuff from shops. And uh, that's about it.
