Look, from what I gather people are trying to shove Santa at Christianity to blame something, yet most Christians, me included, shun Santa Clause as a commercial stunt, which it is.

The only people you should be mad at is the Capitalist Fat Cats.

I am not that bad D:
And why should you shun Santa Clause? I practically love him and he is a huge symbol in America especially. Then again the idea was generated from Saint Nicholas so of course I would expect some Christians to feel a little "Trespassed". The idea doesn't bother me because I am atheist so arguing for him wouldbe pretty foolish on my part *I think*.

It is not. I just think that it is peculiar, and annoying to appeal to only one group in the commercial, and seem like they appeal to all (Which is what they really should be doing) in the store itself.

Well technically in both the commercial and the "Happy Holidays" logo, there is one fanbase that seems to be common in all of them Atheists. Then again since Santa Clause is not the original Saint Nicholas that would mean that Santa Clause himself is not appealing to Christians and is rather a secular icon in the American cultural spectrum. Santa Clause is applying to all because Christians believe in Saint Nicholas and not Santa Clause, even if Santa Clause was based off Saint Nicholas it would be like how the Christians stole and modified the Roman Pagan festival of Brumalia and changed it to Christmas, even though that is the truth Roman Pagans still only own Brumalia as Christmas is still not theirs. Santa Clause is secular so therefore he applies to all.

Saint Nicholas is religious.
Santa is not.
I don't care if Santa was based on Saint Nicholas. By that logic America is a Christian country because it was "built off of Christian ideals".

Saint Nicholas was a saint who gave gold to people hundreds of years ago.

Santa Claus was made decades ago by Coca-Cola.

So you are indeed correct in saying that they are 2 different people(well, person and fat fantasy man).

You are correct and incorrect.
He was a saint, but Santa is older than Coke. In fact, he was created 200 years before Coca-Cola. Look at my conversation with Cinnamon for proof.

The reason Hanukkah is not mentioned since about 2% of the world is of Jewish belief as of the beginning of 2011 while about 33% of the world is christian. Christianity is a major religion and the most practiced in the world ( 2nd being Islam ) so far. So why target the Jewish when they are only a small amount of them in the world when many people are Christian? Its not stupid and they say happy holidays as around this time are several holidays and not to offend people.

I know, that's my point. The problem is people seem to thing Santa is religious because he was based off of saint nicholas, which while the being based off of part is true, he is not religious.

True, America is a Christian country because 60-76% of them identify themselves to be Christian. ;D

"Santa Claus" is a corruption of "Sint Niklaus", the traditional Dutch name of Saint Nicholas (who was Turkish). New York (being a haven for Dutch immigrants in the early days) produced the name because when you pronounce "Sint Niklaus" in a New York accent it sounds like "Santa Claus".

And no, Coca-Cola did not invent modern Father Christmas. Various drinks companies had used his image to improve sales of soda (considered a summer drink) in Winter. It had been used to promote ginger beer and lemonade amongst other things before Coca-Cola tried it out.

And Christmas is a really shitty time of year for me because my birthday is on Christmas Day.

EDIT: To the idiot who said America was built out of [sic] "Christian Ideals", America was the world's first secular republic, constitution and all. To create it was a remarkable achievement. The Christians who try to claim America is a country built on Christianity are citing reasoning similar to a religious monarchy, one of the reasons Washington & Co. kicked the redcoats for six in the first place.

Saint Nicholas was Greek. He was born in a part of Greece that would later become Turkey. .-.
