I spy with my little eye...a typo in these cards (The Flame Barrier) (37/37)

[spoiler=Intro]It turns out that a friend of mine from work is non other than @Cody Frost! (OMG NO WAI!) He's been busy as ever with work and school on his end (etc etc) but he still love yugioh. After a talk, we were discussing our favorite created archtypes, and the one that popped up for him was "The Flame Barrier" monsters. After taking a look at them and him taking a look at my cards (because we proxied them irl) he told me if I could edit this archtype and in many ways make them "better" than before. So once more, the Flame Barrier monsters are back! With several edits of course~

One of the biggest changes is going to be the DEF points. Instead of 800, its going to be 500 (since when the Flame Barrier monsters are destroyed, they deal 500 burn to both players.) Other than that, its going to be some of the OCG and maybe a few picture modifications (since I don't like some of the pics).

[spoiler=Storyline]

The Ice Barrier has been on an imperial campaign throughout the Duel Terminal. Several tribes and clans have been slowly and pathetically overrun by their icy grasp. Outraged, a new clan has begun to oppose them entirely. Grasping the flames and energy of the sun, they oppose the Ice Barrier clan with their full force. The rise of the Flame Barrier has begun.

As time passed, the clan grew and soon flourished in a unique volcanic plane. With they're current power, they are holding their own against the might of their icy enemy. But now they see another enemy before them trying to smite down their flames. The Gishki empire has risen up against the Flame Barriers, demanding their new found land for its unique alloys. With the Steelswarms and Verz on their side, the Flame Barrier clan is surrounded against powerful enemies, with no way out.

After several battles and struggles, the Flame Barrier clan has learned some of the ways of their opponents, and now they are attacking back using similar methods. Along with this, they have harnessed the power of their land and its creatures. Fueled with new power, they begin to fight back, and are now standing their ground against their enemies.

The clan of fire can bare no more. They have put together all their might to fend off their enemies once and for all. Using all their power, skill, and resources as well as the tactics they learned from their enemies, they bring forth a new and more potent power, and with it they begin their ruthless counter attack.

As they battle raged on, the clan's knowledge of their land furthered along with their ability to manipulate its abundance resources. From the fires, they found ways to concentrate the very essence of energy into a form of healing magic. However, it didn't end just there. As well as healing, they learned of destruction and with these basis created powerful spells and weapons. Using them, they drove back their enemies back to their homelands, and established themselves as a force to be reckoned with.

[spoiler=Xyz Synchro Summoning]

When you Xyz Synchro Summon, you need an Xyz Tuner and an Xyz non-Tuner (like in norm. Synchro Summon) and you add up the Ranks of both monsters so they equal EXACTLY the Rank of the Xyz Synchro Monster you're attempting to summon (like how you add the Levels of the monsters in Synchro Summon).

That's part 1. Part 2 is where both the Xyz monsters are sent to the Graveyard BUT all Xyz Materials that were under those monsters are stacked together and placed under the new Xyz Synchro Monster as its Xyz Materials.

So wait...does this count as a Synchro Summon or an Xyz Summon?

ANSWER: Neither...

Xyz Synchro Monsters act as both Synchro AND Xyz monsters, so they are affected by several cards such as De-Synchro and Galaxy Storm, BUT their summon is an XYZ SYNCHRO Summon, so cards like Splash Capture, and Synchro Strike cannot be used against them. Cards like Xyz Reborn and Wicked Rebirth can be used on them if they are in the Graveyard, but cards like Descending Lost Star cannot be used with them as they have Ranks like Xyzs, not Levels.Cards that would affect solely Xyzs or solely Synchros on the field work against these cards, (similar ruling for De-Synchro and Galaxy Storm).

So basically:

deimasoverlordoftheflam.jpg (with 1 Xyz Material under him) + lyagertwinoftheflamebar.jpg (with 2 Xyz Materials under him) = keganpyralissupremacyof.jpg (3 Xyz Materials under him)

Without further adeu, here they are once again.

That's true, but Cody and I both agreed that it shouldn't be much of a problem. I told him I was gonna edit all the "Flame Barrier" monster's DEF to 500 and because Vulf Special Summons the monster in DEF mode, most monsters will be able to run them over easily and the level 5 MAIN DECK monsters this archtype possesses are actually weaker than Cyber Dragon at 2000 ATK MAX, and again, they're being Special Summoned in Defense Mode.

Bonus: I'll be posting 2 cards today.

Good observation! I thought that too! But Cody said these guys were on his head way before their release. Not only that, but they're not as compatible with Lavals and Flamvell monsters as I thought O_o. Sure a quick Synchro here or there, but this deck runs far better by itself. Well, here are the 2 promised cards!

Dose Arts. <3

fricking awesome idea. I always thought that Flamvell was the opposite of Ice Barrier. Seems I was wrong! :P

They would only work with Flamvell's if they had 200 DEF.

I like Vulf, dont listen to rag. Keep his effect the way it is.

Furiance is effing sweeet.

Ekana seems to be the Broww for these guys.

All in all, 10/10. Rly. Keep it coming, this is amazing. Please make more.

I told Cody about them working with Flamvells, but we both decided that "Nah. It'd be too broken."

Also, the idea wasn't mine to begin with, but Cody sort of said this:

"Lol! It's like you're the heir of to my Flame Barriers. man!"

It made me feel all special~ XD But yeah, I plan on finishing the edits on the set.

I like listening to Raggy~ He gives a nice point of view of things and whether good or bad, there's bound to be something I may not catch. Still, both Cody and I agreed on keeping Vulf as it is. In some ways, we'll find ways to somewhat abuse his ability and beastickness, but it isn't something that can't be overcome.

Furiance will keep this effect...and will probably be either limited to 1 or semied. Either or.

Enka IS the draw engine. It's modeled off this card:

[spoiler=Original Mage]

67897q.jpg

Lore: When this card is destroyed, both players take 500 points of damage. When this card attacks, increase this card's ATK by 400 points during the Damage Step only. When this card is attacked, decrease this card's ATK by 400 points during the Damage Step only.

IMO, mine is better <u< I have yet to show Ekina to Cody, but I'm sure he'll flip! XD

for Ekana you can make the burn bigger. 500 is virtually nothing

500 burn solid. No more, no less. Why?

500+500+500+500+...= quite a bit of burn damage...And then on top of that Battle Damage? It's gonna be nasty. The ORIGINAL Flame Barrier Monsters dealt 800 burn damage when destroyed (hence 800 DEF), but that makes things WAY too fast. 500 is a little better, and there are cards that deal +500 damage like Toguro, but its manageable.

see with Toguro you corrected that mistake, and that one's better

And that wasn't a mistake. :P Toguro was modeled after this card:

[spoiler=Original Toguro]

67897t.jpg

When this card is destroyed, both players take 500 points of damage. If this card is destroyed by a card effect, inflict damage to both players equal to the number of "Flame Barrier" monsters on your Graveyard x 300.

See what I mean?

Kugitona's effect is good, shame it works only for traps. You going to have another that'll work for spells too?

Probably not. Flame Barrier monsters need some weaknesses and being taken out by Spell Cards seems to be a nice thing.

2 more cards are up! Kept them nearly the same since these were some of Cody's final Flame Barrier cards (with the new OCG and stuff).

all right, let's begin with Kuzan:

all it really does is get a Flame Barrier card into your hand, nothing wrong with that, although I would have said "except Kuzan" at the end in getting it to your hand

the same goes with Kintaz

the 2nd effect where you said send a Flame Barrier monster from your graveyard to your deck, you should have said "except Kintaz"

Dragoon and Armada are both very well balanced with good searcher-like effects. I would have given Dragoon a higher attack though (probs 1800 or something) since otherwise he is only really useful in the hand and that makes it harder to find room for him.

Before people bring it up, with Effect Veiler there is the added bonus of it being a Tuner and Honest has the ability to return to the hand after it has been summoned.

@Rag - I talked it over with Cody, and we've come up with a few solutions to edits. What you've been saying about "except (insert card name here)" is actually a good idea, but not with all the cards. I'ma do some edits tmro, since I'ma focus on 2 new cards today but I can still say which ones are going to be hit:

  • Furiance
  • Kintaz

Kuzan isn't going to get hit since he adds during the End Phase, meaning you can't search out cards too quickly with him, but he does do a nice set up.

@pie - You'll find Dragoon to be quite a nuisance soon as the tuner monsters are brought out. I found out why Cody had made Kuzan the way he did because he has a very special way of...well I'll get to that soon <u<

Alright, new cards added! Kyaz and K'or!

Not only that, but I also continued off on the Storyline with the second piece.
