Dredging up the "Dissolvers"

When you work around a somewhat deranged chemical/bioterrorist (i.e., Dr. Thrax) as much as I do, you're almost guaranteed to develop an appreciation for poisons and toxins; partially because Thrax won't shut up about them, but you've got to know your stuff too. So, as I was scanning through the Yu-Gi-Oh wiki last spring, I noticed that there really wasn't a good type/subtype/archetype that represented the sapping effects of poisons. So I decided to make my own.

I associated poisoning with deck milling--both steadily sap the victim's strength and become more dangerous over time--and decided to change the rules a bit:
Summoning:

This monster is summoned like a Normal Monster (1 tribute if Level 5 or 6, 2 tributes if 7 or higher), unless otherwise printed.
Attacking:

This monster cannot declare an attack.

Once per turn, during your Battle Phase, you may select 1 monster on your opponent's side of the field.

If the selected monster is in Attack position and has lower ATK than this monster, destroy the selected monster and send the top card of your opponent's Deck to the Graveyard.

If the selected monster is in Attack position and has higher ATK than this monster, destroy this monster and send the top card of your Deck to the Graveyard.

If the selected monster is in Defense Position and has higher DEF than this monster's ATK, destroy this monster and send the bottom card of your Deck to the Graveyard. The attacking monster cannot declare an attack again this turn unless otherwise printed (such as when equipped with "Twin Swords of Flashing Light--Tryce).
Defending:

If this monster is selected as an attack target or targeted by a Dissolver Effect while in Attack Position by a monster with lower ATK than this monster, destroy the attacking monster and send the top card of your opponent's Deck to the Graveyard.

If this monster is selected as an attack target or targeted by a Dissolver Effect while in Attack Position by a monster with higher ATK than this monster, destroy this monster and send the top card of your Deck to the Graveyard. The attacking monster cannot declare an attack again this turn unless otherwise printed (such as when equipped with "Twin Swords of Flashing Light--Tryce).
Other Rules:

If a monster has an effect that changes these rules, the initial rules are referred to as the card's "Dissolver Effect", and the exceptions/changes are printed on the card.

Obviously, such a long list of rules couldn't possibly fit on a card and still allow room for other effects. A new subtype was necessary. Thus, behold the Dissolver subtype!

Essentially, they mill cards in your opponent's deck when they destroy a monster, and mill cards in your own deck when destroyed in battle.

PROS:

Milling is cool

Dissolver effects aren't technically battle, so most battle-stopping effects won't work

Usually easy to summon

Pretty good ATK

Simple effects make them fairly splashable

Bizarre hodgepodge of types can be hard to counter
CONS:

Non-cohesive types make support difficult

Still based on ATK/DEF, so statistically powerful trump cards can beat them

Generally poor DEF

Might accidentally mill an important card that your opponent can dredge out of their Graveyard

Support cards are quite specific, and are usually worthless in non-Dissolver decks

Rules can be hard to remember

Pics are kind of ugly (...)
SUGGESTED STRATEGY:
Dissolvers are an old-fashioned beatdown/mill subtype, combining brute force with deck-killing. They generally have decent ATK and easy summoning conditions, allowing them to get on the field easily. If your opponent has cards that must discard as part of a maintenance cost, like Lightsworns, these will eat the opponent's deck even more quickly. In addition, the attacking/Dissolver Effect distinction bypasses most anti-battle effects, making their attac--er, Dissolver Effects hard to negate. All this combined makes for a fairly powerful offense.
SUGGESTED COUNTERS:
While Dissolver Effects aren't technically battle, it's more of a distinction without difference; the mechanics are virtually identical, except Dissolver Effects mill instead of deal LP damage. The key is that when a Dissolver Monster is destroyed by battle, it mills its own deck. Ironically, this makes Dissolver decks the best counter to Dissolvers; your Dissolvers' milling and their Dissolvers' self-milling compounds the deck damage. If Dissolvers aren't your thing, simply using a stronger beatdown will kill these cards easily; if you don't kill their Life Points first, they'll eventually mill themselves to death.
If a strong beatdown isn't possible, it's a good idea to have strong Graveyard support. In fact, if they happen to mill an important card out of your deck, you can use an appropriate card to get it out more easily than you would if it was still in the deck. The screwy mix of attributes and types aren't easily countered by attribute/type-specific cards, so it's better to use Dissolver-specific counters (as described below), or staple general-purpose counters.

Level 5
Once per turn, during your Main Phase, if you control this card on the field, you can equip it to 1 monster on your side of the field as an Equip Spell Card, OR unequip the Union equipment and Special Summon this card in face-up Attack Position. While equipped to a monster by this card's effect, you cannot declare an attack with the equipped monster or activate its effect(s). (1 monster can only be equipped with 1 Union Monster at a time. If the equipped monster would be destroyed by a Dissolver Effect, negate the Dissolver Effect. If the equipped monster is destroyed by a Spell, Trap, or monster effect, or as a result of battle, destroy this card instead.)

PUZZLE! Rep Opportunity!
You're probably wondering where I got the ideas for all of these cards. Most of them are poisonous or corrosive somehow, but "King Dokusei Kagaku" is really weird. But I didn't just pull it out of my ass; the pic came from a fan-made album cover of Pink Floyd's "Welcome to the Machine" (it looked scary). Here's the puzzle:
The name is Romanized Japanese. What does "Dokusei Kagaku" mean in Japanese?

You are right about the dissolver rules, they are hard to remember lol. But, if these were real and after being around for a while (tuners for example) you will have these effects on lock. The idea of milling by using effects during the battle phase without attacking is very original so this gets a "like" just from that. The pics can use some work but overall, the idea is great and keep up the good work man. Overall: 8/10

i dont think the non attacking rules are necessary. maybe just having them not able to attack directly. which could be stated in the card's effect.
i say this because the basis still applies.if their monster is weaker, its destroyed. if your monster is weaker, its destroyed. you can just have an effect saying if this card destroys a monster, your opponent loses their top card.that way, their attack and effect can be negated by your opponent with attack negating effects and such. because as is, their all effects that can destroy another monster which isnt as easliy negated compared to an attack.

otherwise, this is a brilliant idea. it should be made. make the game all the more interesting. because yugioh doesnt have so much good milling as far as ive seen.

Here's my justification for the rules change:

As you can see, an effect like that would be nigh-impossible to read. Chem-Warrior's normal effect is pretty short, but adding the rules you suggested increase the effect's length considerably. King Dokusei Kagaku's effect is fairly long to begin with, and adding the new clauses make it even longer. Plus, I wanted the Dissolver Effects to be a little weird, but there is one hang-up I noticed; because they are a monster effect rather than battle, cards that negate monster effects (I can't name any off the top of my head, aside from the obvious Skill Drain) stop the milling effects, but do allow them to battle normally. Strange, isn't it?

So while your idea makes sense at first glance, it's somewhat impractical. Nevertheless, I appreciate your review, and I'm glad to see that someone would use this if it actually existed.

I've also got a little puzzle for you...see the main post for details. Winner gets a rep!
