Monster Hunters (29/??)

Recommended Posts

A set based off of monster mythologies (vampires, werewolves, frankenstein's monsters, etc.). Enjoy, and give constructive criticism. I haven't played Yu-Gi-Oh in a damn long time, so telling me if I make an OCG mistake would be appreciated, as well as general constructive criticism on the cards themselves.

All pics are taken from various Deviantart people and JazinKay.

[spoiler=DESIGN AESTHETIC]
I'm a weird dude. I don't design cards around certain abilities and themes. I design abilities around the cards, and the cards around the pictures. The themes come once I establish working abilities that fit the design of a certain group. For example, the Bloodsucker's ability to mill and screw around with the hands comes from the first picture, Bloodsucker Nosferatu. It got me thinking "how would a vampire work in 2050", where i thought they would be mutated humans that live off electrical impulses. They don't attack you directly, they leave you weak by removing your ability to react, by consuming your nerve signals. Then I thought about how that would translate into game mechanics, leaving cards that leave the opponent feeling helpless by removing their ability to react via repetitive discarding and milling.

I don't really ever have a set plan for anything I do. I go to deviantart or google images or jazinkay's archive and i look up "monster hunter" or "werewolf" or "cyborg priest". I take the images I like and then craft a card around them. I could keep it going theoretically forever but I don't have the time or patience to do so, and there's only so many images on the internet.

aaanyway, i've also added the 4 "Black Hunters". They're ex-Monster Hunters who shed their own humanity for massive, destructive, demonic powers. So they have big, boisterous, game changing powers to match. It was actually really fun thinking of their abilities.
