Twitter

Recommended Posts

If you don't know what Twitter is, then serious questions need to be asked.

I have always depised social media sites like Myspace and Facebook, yet I got convinced into joining Twitter by my friends. And I'm happy to say this has allowed for much wit and whimsy with reading entertaining snippets of my friends lives as they experience them, or humerous or informative things from others I follow. Still no inclination to go on Facebook, EVER, but I enjoy tweeting about.

Do you use Twitter, and if so who do you follow or would you recommend following?

(Note: This is not a 'I'm on Twiter @whatevername, plz follow me' thread).

Notable People/Profiles I follow:

QI Elves (heavily recommend this)

Hayley Williams (Paramore. Cuz it's Hayley)

Corey Taylor (Slipknot, but very witty and informed)

Dara O'Brien and Alexander Armstrong (British presenters and comedians)

Several rugby players (Chris Robshaw, Will Greenwood) and WWE Superstars (Wade Barrett, Zack Ryder)

Gogogo YCM

People prefer Twitter mainly because, as a media-consuming public, we enjoy knowing about the lives of celebrities rather than your friends.

True to a degree, would like to think I'm not one of them though and I only follow people I'm generally interest in/post interesting things, and also things like BBCBreaking and RFUOfficial. (I only follow 20 or so accounts).

Well I admit I got in a bit of a rage earlier scowering a Mr Joseph Barton's account to see what he had to say for himself about his actions today (if you're ignorant, again, do your own research) and raged at what I saw. Which was poor form of me for getting worked about a person who is a complete irrelevance to my life. I'm usually more interested in what my friends are doing. Which often involves tweeting while in the gents, but there you are.

I have a Twitter, through I rarely use it. I have a couple of tweets, but they're mostly questions to some of the people I follow. Surprisingly enough I have a follower. I don't know who it is, but, uh, yay?

If you dont know them, high chance of it being a spambot. Congrats tho.

Twitter basically took facebook, and tripped away everything but the status feed. I am fine with this.

I use twitter mainly to keep upto date with my entertainment, tho the things that start trending some days do not improve my opinion of humanity (#twowordsAsiansfear).

There was some controversy over Twitter back in '08 and '09 on spreading extremist ideals through it.
I don't have it, and am not at the moment very interested in getting one.

There was an entertaining story I heard from my mates before they went to Miami.

Apparently this other group of friends were going to the USA for the first time, really looking forward to a weekend of partying and drinking and whatnot, and one of them posted something on Twitter the words 'Get ready America. We're gonna destroy ya.' (as in drinking slang).

Guys get on thier flights and arrive at whatever airport, where they suddenly find themselves strip searched and interrogated as terror suspects for hours, before being back of to Britain and told they could never come to America again. Turns out the guys tweet containing the words 'destroy America' triggered an alarm somewhere, and well... that's the end result.

Mates spent the entire week tweeting 'We love America. We'll be good. Please don't probe us.'

So yeah, Twitter is pretty heavily monitored for that sort of stuff now. Same with racist views and all other despicableness, they've really cleaned up since then.

I like Facebook better, I can do more and I don't have to remember who people are by their stupid usernames. I have a Twitter account, but O gave up on it because my friends already, that I follow, have Twitter linked to their Facebook or something. Same with celebrities, you can subscribe to them on Facebook too, and they'll post the same things.

Also, #hashtags need to remain on Twitter, on Facebook, you're not trending jack sh*t.
