Warning Points

So...I'm confused about the Warning Points. Under my avatar, it says -5 Warning Points. But when I click on it, it says I only have three points for light spamming about a month ago.

Basically, can someone please explain these Warning Points to me and how they work? Also, when do your Points begin to expire? .-.

Things that I know.

1. Most warns (unless a mod does otherwise) expires 1 week from your last warning.
2. No clue as to why they go negative when they expire, but if I go to warn someone who is negative I give them a permanent warn to reset them back to zero first, [i]then[/i] warn them. So don't think you have extra slack room because your warn level is negative.
