I think it adds some consistency to Crystal Beasts, while acting as a different Field Spell they can use. Of course, it sets up plenty of plays, as well. I know from experience that you often open terribly, with no way to get a Crystal Beast in your Spell/Trap Zone, which makes a lot of cards useless from the get-go.
