Locals Report

Running the usual - Bubblebeat. Decklist below.

Get to the 45 minutes early to get some trading done, finally get the last 3 cards for the deck I'm building (still need extra deck stuff). See that two of my friends that don't usually go to this store are there. Mess around for a bit.

Tourney starts, don't pull anything from turbo pack.

Round 1: Chaos Dragons (Angel)

He's one of the better players at our locals and Chaos Dragons is a terrible matchup for me.

Game 1: I win after D-Prisoning his Lightpulsar and he has no other outs. He tells me after the match that he had Veiler in hand and could have gone into Black Rose to nuke my 3 backrow (none of which was a starlight).

Game 2: I don't draw anything except Bubbleman and lose quickly.

Game 3: I manage to build up some momentum but he gets a Pulsar lock and I don't draw any Miracles to break out of it.

0-1

Round 2: Worms (Diego)

This is one of the friends that I wasn't expecting to be here. I already knew what he was playing and was laughing because I told him worms were trash earlier.

Game 1: I don't draw anything and we just keep making back and forth plays. Eventually I have like 10 cards left in my deck and I finally manage to make a push for game.

Game 2: I Crossout his Cartaros and it goes from there.

1-1.

Round 3: Agents (Joshua)

Not a bad player and Agents are a bad matchup for me. So far our match record is 1-2 in his favor.

Game 1: He starts off with the standard Venus play and I have no outs to Gachi.

Game 2: I manage to draw all 3 miracle fusions and overpower him.

Game 3: Not as sacky as last game but he draws badly and I just out-advantage him (As weird as that seems with agents vs heroes).

2-1.

Round 4: Chaos Dragons (Marcos)

The second one of my friends that came here. I already know that he's running Chaos Dragons and am dreading the inevitable outcome.

Game 1: I can't get anything going and lose quickly.

Game 2: He runs a weird build and card destructions my hand, leading me to drop a Miracle and Crossout. I draw Alius and Gemini Spark. Oddly enough this lets me take the game.

Game 3: I manage to stop his push and think I'm safe but he RtfDDs for game.

2-2.

Pairings are called and I realize that Marcos and Angel are playing each other. Sucks when your tiebreakers do that.

Round 5 (last round before top 8): AHL Heroes (Xavier)

Some random young kid that I've never seen in the shop before.

Game 1: Pretty obvious that he doesn't really know what he's doing from some plays that he makes. I sweep it up quickly.

Game 2: Super poly puts in work on his field of Shining, Bubbleman, and Excalibur. I make Ab0 and take the game in a few turns.

3-2.

I walk over to where Marcos and Angel are playing. Marcos manages to 2-0 Angel with a good Electric Virus play. Not hopeful for getting into top 8 at this point but we'll see.

Top 8 is called and I somehow make it in. I'm paired against Barrett Keys and he's running Chaos Dragons today. Joy.

Top 8: Barrett Keys (Chaos Dragons)

I've played him before twice - lost the first time when he was running DWs and won when he was running Wind-ups by sacking a Gemini Spark into Miracle. I'm fairly sure I'm going to lose, though.

Game 1: BLS puts in work and I lose.

Game 2: I manage to run over his field with Excalibur, Alius, and Ab0 and manage to correctly read a trag play that he made because he had gorz in hand and wanted to drop it on 4k. So I run over trag with excal instead and attack directly with Ab0. I have a D-Prison facedown for the Gorz. Unfortunately he manages to work his graveyard next turn to bring out DAD, pops my backrow, and sacks his whole field to leave me with Excalibur. I think I'm safe but he drops a BLS in def and from there it goes to s***.

Day could have gone worse but at this point I'm considering that my side-deck is incorrectly built for my bad matchups. Here's the decklist:

[3] Alius
[3] Bubbleman

20

[3] Miracle
[3] Spark
[3] MST

[2] Veiler
[2] Crossout
[2] Prohibition
[2] Super Poly
[1] Needle Ceiling

At this point it's become obvious that I have serious issues with Chaos Dragons (and to a lesser extent with Agents, normally I lose quite badly to them). I need an answer to first turn Venus plays. Photon Thrasher and Compulsory come to mind. I've also been noticing how badly the LP cost of Warning hurts against certain matchups and am considering drop it all-together. Considering that 90% of my trap lineup already works as a one-for-one there doesn't seem to be any reason to run it over Compulsory (which works best against the Mirror Match). Also been considering Electric Virus which can both save me and help me push for game against Dragons and Machine Variants (along with the occasional Rabbit deck, I guess...).

Thoughts?
