It makes me so happy to know I'm not alone on that. Everything was so personal with him, and it just felt way too restrictive here. I thought I might have been the only one who thought that, I rarely hear anything negative about Icy. x-x

 

Well, keep in mind I've known Icy since 2008, and we actually used to get along really well. Then he started being way too personal and pushing his personal opinions on me even in like MSN chats and stuff and it got to be really obnoxious because I'm not the type of person to take that kind of thing from anyone, IRL or online. Sure, I'm hardly active anymore except in RC/Creative Writing because I've got a girl and a job and college now, but like it'd be impossible for me to say that I actually like the guy.

 

Sure, he was a brilliant card maker, but that was about it. But regardless, I wonder when Mikhail's planning on posting the new thread.

I don't like him and I never will and I will leave it as that.

 

Moving on could we possibly discuss my idea of a "Point Fine System"?

Basically along with warns we could fine people who break the rules a certain amount of points. Since points are important again I feel it would be a good idea.

It's a good idea. I've always liked the idea of an economy on YCM, although the trouble is that it gives moderators even more power as they have unlimited wealth. I think points need to be a little more important than they are now, even, for such an idea to be successful. It's an excellent one to have at a moment's notice, though.

Basically along with warns we could fine people who break the rules a certain amount of points. Since points are important again I feel it would be a good idea.

 

You mean like post-locking them, but they can bail by paying [x] points? Like, 20% of the user's points. Ex: I currently have 16,648 points, so if I put it in the calculator right, I would have to pay 3330 points (rounded to nearest whole number) to Mikhail to get unpost-locked.

Scrap the idea. Making points too valuable could set the balance extremely high in the Mod's favor. It could turn out bad.

It creates an oligarchy because the mods have all the wealth. If you were a corrupt mod, you could just give your friends huge amounts of money on a whim. For instance, I have just made Mr. A the fourth richest member on the entire site. Imagine if mods kept making back-handed payments like that.

Is there a way we can restrict people from posting in certain areas? If so, maybe include a 24 hour ban that stops people from posting in the area they got in trouble for when they receive their second warn? First though that popped into my head.

Fun fact: People are more likely to do risky things when faced with the chance of losing something, and are more likely to stay the course when given a chance of gaining something of the same amount.

 

Though I'd say for this case, it may be best to offer more reward for following the rules than penalties for breaking it as it may keep more people within the section.

Oh! Idea! At the end of each month, members who have not received a SINGLE warn could receive...maybe 2,000 points? Of course the amount could be changed.

The question is if we can make points be enough of an incentive. I certainly could care less about 2,000 points. The issue we have to take with that is that if we keep bumping the point total up, will it eventually be too many points? Is there a happy medium in all this?

 

Or is there a better incentive we can give for those who follow the rules?

 

That can also be partially alleviated by finding a way to make points matter more than they currently do. That may either require someone to find new things to put in the shop or, probably more likely, and more reasonably, ask all Graphics shops and requests, as well as card contests, to require points to be paid for their services. (perhaps there should be other places where a requirement like this must be met)

Maybe, once a year. We find out who has posted the most Topics, and posted the most, with no warns and give them a free name change?

Honestly, maybe it's just me, I don't care how many points you offer. Points don't do much, aside from name changes to me, and we really need more shop items. A lottery is cool, but it doesn't give much of anything, especially if you have terrible luck.

Giving points more value on the forum may be our best course of action, unless someone can think of a better incentive? But if we took start charging people points for certain actions, we would have to find a "fair" set price.

Invisible hand of the free market, my friend. People will decide a fair price after a little while of working on it. If members feel that the price is too high for the amount of work put in, a moderator can also step in to slap some wrists.

I don't like a lottery system at all either. People don't really like to follow something if they are given a small percentage chance of getting something out of it.

 

Perhaps the incentive could be given no matter how many people don't get warned. It's a common fact that guarantees are much more effective than even a 90% chance of winning something, even if the 90% chance is in all likelihood, going to give you more of a reward. Of course, in that case, we don't want to make it too high of a point total. Too many people having too many points would cause an unfortunate inflation... and we don't want inflation -.-
